Aexxy's Admin Application

In-Game Username: Aexxy

Discord Username: aexxie

Played Characters: Elysa-Noctis, Luma-Noctis

Availability: I will typically be available 12-15 hours a week. In the Discord, I will be available most of the time and usually have a fast response-time. This could change from week to week depending on the schoolwork I have to complete. I will be substantially more active on weekends; depending on what I am doing I may be able to get another couple of hours in.

Days Available: Sunday - Saturday on an average week. On weekends, I will be far more active.

Age: I am 18 years old.

Outside Experience (Space Station): I have experience in a few HRP servers outside of Wizard’s Den, yes.

Prior Experience: I am an admin in Cosmatic Drift and Sector Umbra, both HRP servers run by upstream admins. I also worked as one of the primary developers for Typical Games on Roblox (the studio behind Epic Minigames, Energy Assault, Silent Assassin, and The Crusher.) I have worked as an admin for AlvinBlox’s server (a well-known Roblox developer/youtuber.) I am currently part of the Event Coordination team (a small, select group of around 7 people) in the official Terraria Discord. I am also involved with Ghostrunner staff, and am currently helping host an event there.

Previous Bans/Infractions: I do have several previous bans, some of which were unacceptable of me and I thoroughly regret the way I handled them.

Ban 1: Very shortly after I first started playing, I received a ban for nuking the AME. I had no idea what I was doing, so this was a rookie mistake.

Ban 2: Role-Banned for metagaming as captain. To my memory, this was the first time playing the role. I tried to have the HoP demoted becuase I had believed them to be self-antagging in the round prior. At the time, I was not aware of A-Help and I ignorantly tried to take care of the situation myself. I had bypassed this ban; I was immature, arrogant, and selfish at the time. I have greatly improved myself in the time passed since then, establishing several core values in the process that I did not have before. Later on, I attempted to lie my way out of trouble when I was questioned. This was, again, something I am terribly ashamed of but I accept entire responsibility. At the time I was full of myself and unwilling to admit being wrong. I now hold myself to a significantly higher standard - my primary core values being honesty and integrity - and wish nothing more to improve myself as much as I can.

Ban 3: Fooling around in MRP. I had been fooling around with the HoP and we ended up killing each other back and forth a few times.

What are you looking forward to in being an admin?: One of my favorite things to do as an admin is to be able to watch rounds (and particularly roleplay) unfold. Sometimes I want to be able to watch without playing myself, and this is a good way to do that while still contributing to the experience. I like to help people, so I am excited to be able to assist people with my knowledge of the game and it’s innerworkings. I feel like this is a great way to keep the game inviting for newer players.

What are you not looking forward to?: As I stated above, I want to help keep the game player-friendly and inviting. With that being said, I do not look forward to sorting out arguments between players and reviewing ban appeals. I do not enjoy being the “bad guy” for lack of a better word, however, I am entirely capable if necessary. Since dealing with player issues is part of making sure other players have a fun experience with the gam e, I am entirely willing to accept the responsibility despite not enjoying it.

What role do admins serve?: Admins fill several vital roles in maintaining the life of a game. The general focus of administrating in any multiplayer game is to keep the experience fun and safe for all players. This applies just the same to SS14; admins are responsible for keeping the game experience from getting stale, for keeping negative player interactions to a minimum, and to assist players with questions. Admins serve as a reliable source for information regarding not only the game’s rules, but also game mechanics in general. SS14 is a very complex game, and players may lose interest if they struggle with figuring it out with no assistance.

Why do you want to become an admin?: I love roleplay, and SS14 has been a great way for me to express that. I want to help improve the quality of the community and have a positive impact upon it. I enjoy helping people, whether it be with clarifying rules, or helping solve their issues

How do you feel about the current roleplay status?: I believe the roleplay in SS14 is lacking in some ways, but is generally okay. While it is not required in LRP, I would like to see more scenarios played out through roleplay. While I haven’t personally experienced an extensive amount of metagaming, powergaming, and self-antagging, when it does happen it is very frustrating. I want to help keep an eye out for these players in order to minimize these scenarios for other players.

What actions can an admin take to achieve the biggest positive impact?: Ignoring removing problematic players, one of the most impactful actions an admin can do is to help people when they need it. This means answering player questions in a friendly and understanding way. This will make the game far more appealing to newer players as well as generally raising the public opinion of the game. For an open-source and free project, postitive publicity is extremely important for success. Responding to players in a welcoming way will encourage players to ask questions; consequentially, this will improve the experience for other players as the newer players are more knowledgeable of how the game works.

Have you had any negative experiences?: I do not recall any off of the top of my head, no.

Have you had any positive experiences?: I have had plenty of positive experiences, but none stand out to me in particular.

Scenarios

It is the start of the round. There are 60 players on the server. The game mode is traitors, traitors have not been selected yet. There are three players who decided to observe the round instead of join it orbiting you. Two of them are encouraging you to “do something funny”.

The best course of action would likely be between ignoring or refusing the prompt. In most cases, I do not want to interfere with other peoples’ roleplay; following their prompting may do just that. Depending on the circumstance (if things are calm and I am not needed elsewhere), I might load the dev area and do a few things there.

This scenario takes place on LRP. The Head of Security has decided to coup the Captain. The Head of Personnel agrees with the Head of Security and has taken up arms in case it is necessary to aid in effecting the arrest of the Captain. The Captain is hiding with the Quartermaster in the cargo shuttle to avoid the Clown who has stolen the captains saber as a non-antag. There are five people named in this scenario. Please describe what actions, if any, you would take in relation to each, and why.

The Head of Security should not be starting a coup unless they have strong reasoning and/or full head consensus. There are few reasons you may be allowed to do this without other heads’ verdicts, such as the captain killing several people for no reason, so this entirely depends on context. If the Head of Security had no proper reasoning behind their actions, they may receive a warn and/or a roleban. If the Head of Security did have proper reasoning, and the Captain *should* have been removed from their position, the Captain may receive a warn and/or a roleban.

The Head of Personnel should not have any actions taken against them unless they played any major part outside of being a bystander. If the Head of Personnel was pushing for the coup so they could take over as captain for themselves, then some action may be taken such as a warn.

The Clown would receive a warning for stealing a high-value item as a non-antag, however the severity will vary with how many times the clown has done similar things, and whether or not he used the sword to self-antag more.

You are ahelping a player about an issue. The player has no prior noted issues. A few days earlier, an admin had told you that this type of situation should result in a temporary ban for a first offense, and you are confident that this situation is not substantially different from the type that admin was describing. During the ahelp, another admin pings you on Discord with a link to the ongoing ahelp and tells you to just indefinitely ban them and make them appeal. Excluding trialmins and headmins, all admins are equally “ranked”. A headmin is not currently available.

The wisest decision would be to discuss my reasoning with the admin in question, rather than arguing or ignoring them. If they have sufficient reasoning, then I may take their advice. In the worst-case scenario, the ban can be fixed later on. Respectfully resolving disputes and properly communication is a key part of working as a team, so that should be taken into consideration.

Closing Statement - I would like to once again apologize for my past behavior. The way I had previously acted was immature and selfish. I have improved greatly since then, and believe I could be an asset to the project in general. I greatly appreciate the opportunity given to me to contribute more to SS14, and even moreso appreciate the understanding and forgiveness of the admins initially involved with my shenanigans. If any other questions are needed, my DMs are open and I will answer them in complete honesty. Thank you!

I should clarify that I don’t do adminning in Sector Umbra, but I own the fork we use and am one of the hosts.

My characters that I play both go by different names now (due to lore reasons); Aur’sai & Lum’nia respectively

Currently, I’ll be available between 25-35 hours a week.

Application accepted, please check your discord for instructions on how to proceed. Good luck during your trial period and welcome to the admin team!
