- The risk of being electrified is a powerful deterrent for many tiders as is. If it’s necessary to make this more unforgiving, then have different departments utilize different wiring patterns to make it more difficult OR add more electrified wires.
- Insulated gloves are necessary for the engineer’s work outside of hacking - handling wiring on the floor and avoiding electrified hazards. They would have less demand from the people who would hoard a pair for a more specific and personal purpose.
- Breaking into most places is difficult enough as is due to the high player count. Reminder that most maps like Box and Meta were designed for around 40 or so players - I know this because I used to play SS13 at that era. Nowadays there’s always a snitch in every corner.
- It would allow easier access for actual antagonists. Sneaking around is fun, even if it is almost impossible nowadays, at least for me.
I don’t see how this is an issue.
Insuls serve as a slightly rarer part of the standard toolkit thats granted in abundance to those who actually need it for their job.
Those who wish to trespass into areas just need to spend a little extra time acquiring insuls from maintenence or engineering, which isn’t that difficult.
Breaking into places is extremely easy with insuls, just get faster at it and enter through maints.
Antagonists already have ways to enter places quickly and effectively with agent IDs and access breakers.
Removing the hacking insul requirement would just lead to more non-antags breaking into places since the one outstanding cost has been removed.
With this antagonists can save their resources for specific equipment/abilities that do other things than breaking and entering.
Engineers won’t have to keep guard of their department as much.
Breaking into places as non-antag does not imply self-antagging. Tomfoolery is necessary for the game and the ability to get somewhere you shouldn’t be is part of the charm. This otherwise feels like baby-proofing for the player, which is extremely off-putting.
Also I don’t know about you but I’ve had a lot of trouble finding insuls anywhere.
most antags haave other tools for getting into doors. theifs and traitors both have jaws of life, and accessbreaker+emag, traitors have the sus toolbox to themselves.
Removing shocks entirely is a terrible idea. Tiders will hack trough using the cheap insuls even.
If you remove shocking, you’ll have to take a camera monitor with you or get robbed the minute you turn around.
I am all for not gatekeeping such a common mechanic behind engineering alone and a SINGLE equipment piece. But it needs to be more complex than just “no more shocking”.
Breaking into places is not difficult, if you know the wiring (which you can check beforehand in maints even) you can hack faster than a jaws of life even gets to half completion. And the chances a tider even looks at you twice is pretty low.
You’ll probably get found out eventually, and that is when you have to avoid sec. But EVEN if you get caught, your sentence will probably not exceed 8 minutes.
I’d like it if you got shocked even harder when cutting the power wire, but the wire still got cut. Maybe reduce the stun (or remove it) and increase the damage.
If you go unprepared, you can still do it, but there’ll be consequences.
I didn’t say anything about removing shocking - it should definitely be there.
have to agree with nancok here, graytiding is considered an issue right now enough that we have forum threads over it… and as pointed out true antags have other avenues of access.
