BramvanZijp's Game Admin Application

In-game Username:  BramvanZijp
Discord username:  bramvanzijp
Characters you play:  Primarily: Nicholas Jones, Keagan Hill, Justin Lineman, Jake Fleming. (As of recently, I have mainly just been spectating and grabbing ghost roles here and there)

On average, how many hours do you expect to admin per week:  It’ll vary, but I do have 6+ hours per day available for free time, which I distribute over a mix of games. If I do get admin this should be a big motivation booster to spend more of it on SS14 again, as right now I primarily spectate & try for ghost roles, which can get boring causing me to stop or multitask. But I expect that if I do get admin, Ill spend atleast 2-4 hours daily on the game, which would be atleast 14-28 hours a week according to basic math.

Days you are available to admin on:  All 7 days a week.

How old are you?  18 as of recently

Do you have any SS14 experience outside of Wizard’s Den servers, or any SS13 experience?  I have played Delta-V and Frontier at some point or another.

Do you have prior administration experience (SS13/SS14 experience preferred, please also post a way for us to verify this)? I currently am a moderator for a minecraft server named DiamondFire, which should be easy to verify through their discord/website, or the list of all staff members on their forums.

Have you ever been banned from any SS14 or SS13 servers?  I have never been banned from any SS14/13 servers, unless rolebans count in which case a single 7 day roleban from security on Delta-V.

Admins have the ability to perform various tasks which are not available to the average player. An incomplete list of these tasks is: in-game rule enforcement, in-game events, ban appeals, and out-of-game rule enforcement through things like replay/log reviews in response to player reports. With these, and any other tasks you’re aware of in mind, answer the following two questions.

What are you primarily interested in doing as an admin?  Keep the game fun for everyone involved, both myself and others. It sucks when any of a wide range of problems arrive and nobody is able to handle them, but I also hope to be able to just help people out, clarify what they are doing wrong and get them to comply with the rules without having to moderate them. Lastly, after moving back to wizden, Ive only really spectated in an attempt to get ghost roles, but mainly just watching the chaos unfold. As an admin I could still contribute to the player experience while doing so.

What are you least interested in doing as an admin?  Tough question, I guess if you guys make the paperwork for issueing punishments a living hell that would be on this list, but other then that I guess being asked to run events constantly? (This is coming from a guy thats been known to ask himself at times.)

_ Answer the following questions in detail, so we can get a better idea of how you’d approach adminning. _

What role do you think game admins serve on our servers?
Make sure the player experience is the best it can be for all involved. This has a wide range of implications ranging from helping players out to informing them of their mistakes to issueing punishments to PERIODICALLY run events, as long as its not too frequent, expected, repetitive, etc. Admins do a lot but keeping the game fun for everyone is in my opinion the best way to sum it up.

Why do you want to become an administrator for SS14?
As mentioned previously, to keep the game fun for everyone, and also to be able to contribute to the game while doing what I usually do currently: Pop in and spectate. Keeping this one brief as I want to avoid seeming like repeating the same thing over and over to make the application look bigger.

How do you feel about the current roleplay status on the servers?
Going to break this up into 2 categories.

Starting with MRP,  I have not realy played/watched enough of it after leaving Delta-V to be able to say much about this, but from the limited things I have seen, it looks fine.

Now LRP, and I am sorry to say this but the “roleplay” here is a complete joke if it exists at all. A round that ended as I am writing this up had me immediately metagamed as a terminator, had security posess & use contraband, etc. In general, LRP right now is NRP, and as much as I want to say as an admin Ill try my best to rectify that, that realistically is not going to happen.

Other than banning problematic players, what admin actions do you believe have the biggest positive impact?
Clarifying things to them. The AHelp menu (and other forms of communication such as the discord help channel(s)) are one of if not the most powerfull tools available to administrators, regardless of who sent the first message. Talking to people can solve so many problems. Maybe they did not know they were breaking the rules, maybe they just forgot to consider it, maybe they just were not having a good day and needed the reminder that this is not the way to express that, etc. Talking to people makes a huge impact and should almost always be your go-to option.

Have you ever had a negative experience in the game or with a game admin? If so what, if anything, would you do to prevent other players from experiencing this?
Most admins seem fine, so not too much to comment here, my wizden experience has so far been solid.

Have you ever had a good experience with the game or a game admin? If so, what was it?
Fun experiences in this game are extremely common so it is hard to single one out. And as for good experiences with game admins, its fun to just chill with them as ghosts, which is the one Ill be mentioning here.

The following are scenarios, respond with how you would handle each as an administrator. Respond with the assumption that you are an administrator with full access to the admin tools, and that you have all the knowledge needed to use these tools. Scenarios intentionally leave out information so that you can describe how different details would affect your response. Respond in detail, explain the reasons behind decisions you make and describe any assumptions you are making. When you need to make an assumption, it is preferred for you to describe how different assumptions would affect your actions.

It is the start of the round. There are 60 players on the server. The game mode is traitors, traitors have not been selected yet. There are three players who decided to observe the round instead of join it orbiting you. Two of them are encouraging you to “do something funny”.
I would inform them that the round is fresh, and that it is far too early to interfere with it.

The reasoning for this, alongside the above, is that if you give in to people asking for events, they will keep asking. (Hypocritical coming from the guy who sometimes asks for events I know)

This scenario takes place on LRP. The Head of Security has decided to coup the Captain. The Head of Personnel agrees with the Head of Security and has taken up arms in case it is necessary to aid in effecting the arrest of the Captain. The Captain is hiding with the Quartermaster in the cargo shuttle to avoid the Clown who has stolen the captains saber as a non-antag. There are five people named in this scenario. Please describe what actions, if any, you would take in relation to each, and why.
The Head of Security and Head of Personell, assuming they have valid grounds for a legal mutiny, are fine in my opinion, though I might ask them to AHelp about it aswell if they have not done so. The captain would likely be command rolebanned for their incompetence in their job considering they had to do a lot to provoke multiple command members to go for a legal mutiny. The QM would likely receive a verbal warning via AHelp not to stall the round by just hiding in the cargo shuttle, especially if cargo needs it for orders. The clown would receive either a very stern warning or a note (clown/mime roleban if behaviour is shown repeatedly) for self antagging.

You are ahelping a player about an issue. The player has no prior noted issues. A few days earlier, an admin had told you that this type of situation should result in a temporary ban for a first offense, and you are confident that this situation is not substantially different from the type that admin was describing. During the ahelp, another admin pings you on Discord with a link to the ongoing ahelp and tells you to just indefinitely ban them and make them appeal. Excluding trialmins and headmins, all admins are equally “ranked”. A headmin is not currently available.
I would issue the temporary ban and inform the admin pinging me that I will bring it up with a higher ranking administrator and if they agree it should be a permban, the ban will be upgraded to one. A permban for a first offense would have to be a very major issue, and if between admins the opinions on the punishment level vary, it is very likely the situation does not warrant one.

Extra Note for the Coup Scenario:
If the Hos & Hop do NOT have grounds for a legal mutiny (such as gross incompetence by the captain), captain would be fine except for the fact that they should not hide on the cargo shuttle as this just stalls the round. As for hos and hop, they would likely be command rolebanned for this. I made the assumption these grounds did exist due to the term arrest being used, but thought to specify just in case. If the grounds do exist, I believe it would be fine to let it play out and allow the roleplay to solve its own issues instead of immediate admin intervention.

Thank you for applying. We’ve decided to not accept this application, but you’re free to apply again in the future.
