I realized i have Cap unlocked as a role but i dont even have all command unlocked. Isnt he supposed to be the leader of the station, so shouldnt he be required to know command level knowledge of how everything works?
So youre saying it should be higher? It used to be higher iirc, like 10 hours per roll instead of… uh… 4 it is now?
Yeah i have no idea what it is i just think its a bit dumb considering how high he is on the chain of command. I think you should need at least enough hours in each department to have command unlocked, then HoP hours. But that seems like overkill.
Well it really depends on the player I think. I started playing cap when I had like 3 or 4 hours in sci and no hours in cargo (I played every other department a lot though) and I didn’t have any problems with it, captain isn’t really supposed to do some department’s work, they just need to know how that department works and that you can just figure out playing way other roles from other departments. The most important department for cap to know is engi, as if the station doesn’t have any engineers, cap has to be first to set up power and/or hire mote crew to engi. Of course cap needs to know space law and all that.
Over all, cap shouldn’t need to work in each department such as sci or cargo, as it clearly worked out fine for me. I have over 1000 hours on wizden alone and still played cargo for just 2 or 3 hours in all that time and don’t have QM unlocked.
For me, I never played CMO, HOS (I guess I did, but there were infinite number of this job open at the time) nor QM. I just know roughly how each department works, and just leave the rest to other crew members.
If its lowpop, and there are no engies, I do an announcement to ask crew for help, and usually nobody really complains at me.
I guess, whatever if something is missing or other help is required, I try to get someone else to do that job.
So, capitan for me should just know spacelaw (just to check on security, call security if they see evil doers), and know to not hand out their valuable equipment.
Captain only has to know space law and maybe some combat. Nothing else. The rest of his duties is making final rulings on certain situations.
While someone like RD has to know space law and their department like the palm of their hand. Same with CE.
If you do not know enough about a department to make a ruling, as the head of said department which is the one supposed to be controlling said department in the first place.
Actually, hiring is HoP’s job. But if there is no HoP… yeah.
