How long have you been playing SS13 or SS14?
I have been playing SS14 since August 2022 for many hours (at a guess, I’d say at least 150?). Since then, I’ve played every month and have even made a few contributions.
How many hours are you available per day:
I could probably handle 3–6 hours, anytime during normal UK timezone hours.
Days you are available on:
A couple of weeks from now, I will be available every day.
Prior administration experience (SS13 experience recommended). Please also post a way for us to verify this:
I have been an admin on some Gmod DarkRP servers and an SCP:SL server, but unfortunately these servers are gone now. In this, I had to make sure everyone was following the rules, and remove them from the server if they were not. I also had to help people when they ran into issues that needed admin intervention, such as, getting stuck in walls. I also learned that with great power, comes great responsibility. Furthermore, I know what it is like to be able to alter a player’s experience for better or worse, and understand the consequences of getting it wrong.
Have you been banned from our game servers or SS13 servers before?
Never.
This is the more essay-y part of the application, you should answer the following questions in detail, so we can get a better idea of how you’d approach adminning.
What role do you think game admins serve on our servers?
The admins have two main roles on the servers. The most noticeable from a player’s perspective is that they run events and create unique and fun scenarios in order to make rounds more interesting. Secondly, and more importantly, they ensure the rules are followed by all players and that nobody’s experience is being hampered by self-antags or bigotry. These two roles can be summarised simply as making sure everyone is having fun and enjoying the chaos happening aboard this strange station in space.
How do you feel about the current roleplay status on the server?
Based on what people say, SS14’s standards of roleplay are lower than SS13 equivalents in both LRP and MRP. I’m not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing, because it means the game is more palatable to a large player base, but it also goes against the core essence of the game. LRP is especially bad because some players don’t try to roleplay and name their character after a real-world person or character, which breaks immersion and draws attention to themselves. Some people, however, do attempt to roleplay and use emotes not just as another way to talk but as a way to express themselves.
Why do you want to become an administrator for SS14?
I have watched this Wizard’s Den grow from only one active server (Lizard) to now, where there are multiple active servers over multiple regions. During this time, I have interacted with admins to for help getting unstuck from bugs, or to report another player’s rule-breaking, and I feel like this will only get worse as the game gets bigger. I have also noticed that self-antag behaviour in-person and on Liltenhead’s videos, which just ruins the game for others. I am inspired to help the community and keep the game fun for everyone online, even if that means removing those who refuse to play nice with others. Likewise, I want people to feel welcome in SS14 and not be scared away by a few bad actors that distract from our inclusive community. Furthermore, I’m looking forward to building trustworthiness enough to be given the freedom to create engaging, station-wide activities.
