Events leading to the ban

The ban isn’t defined by a single event but more-so my conduct on the server as I’ve been playing .
When it comes to my consistent use of the r-slur I can only apologise. In both in-real life amongst friend groups and those I talk to online commonly; the term has essentially lost all power behind it due to overuse and has become an equivalent to just saying “that’s dumb”. It’s been so long since I’ve been reprimanded for its use, I simply forgot how it’s perceived in a neutral environment.

For the homophobic slurs, these were said under the guise of RP, I’ll go more into that in the 2nd segment, and were not personally directed. I cannot recall 1 use. One of them was when a HoP refused to give me armoury access as nuclear operatives were attacking for bureaucracy reasons I believe, I actually found this quite funny IRL but it made sense for my character to be quite angry at the situation and verbal about it. The remaining instance was when I was playing a nuclear operative myself and it was an in-character insult towards the captain at the time.

I cannot recall any instance of me using racial slurs so if you would like for me to into the situations with them, I would need the logs or replays where it occurred.

Reason the ban should be removed

I said that the some of the phrases which were flagged were made in-character, this comes from me not being fully aware as to the specific level of RP that LRP actually takes place in, my RP experience comes from Garry’s mod serious RP code bases such as clockwork which are purpose built to facilitate an almost entirely role-play based environment which may be a closer equivalent to SS14’s HRP with my only alternative being DarkRP which. As such I really don’t know what LRP is considered in terms of allowance for the atmosphere VS the gameplay experience since my only two previous experiences being either end of the RP spectrum, this is why my character had quite strong profanity since past experience had that considered acceptable as long as it was strictly In-character. With OOC & IC in mind there is also a tonal difference between how I wrote my messages in either chat which should help solidify the point that what I said was just me acting a character and not my true and honest opinion about those situations and individuals.

A big reason why I believe the ban should be reduced from a permanent one is the lack of information or warning I was given by other players or a moderator / admin. There was never an issue raised in LOOC nor was I ever confronted by someone claiming to have AHelped due to my language / an admin contacting me to warn me of any rule violations. I believe this would’ve actually gone on longer had it not been someone accidently stumbling upon my chat logs when doing an inspection after I asked to be whitelisted for salamander since I wanted to see what MRP was like in comparison to LRP with all my roles still unlocked. Had I received a warning from staff I would’ve likely stopped without it becoming the need for a permaban.

This ban is also my first significant infraction with server rules, barring one instance which may come under round-stalling but I am not entirely sure, I have been never disrupted a player via gameplay mechanisms, self-antagged or showed severe incompetence as security / command. For the first serious infraction, with no previous temporary ban, kick or even warning to be punished with a permanent ban seems overly harsh.

If the ban was reduced to a temporary one I would accept that for what I’ve done and refrain from such language when the time is up. I would like to keep playing on the Wizden servers, the mass majority of my SS14 playtime is on them and I’ve been around enough to unlock 2 command roles and had someone recognise my character. I never joined with the intention of antagonizing people, to be toxic and troll for my own gain. I got this after a strong recommendation from a friend who tried to get me into SS13 but I saw it as too clunky, again these infractions where found after I tried to see more of the game by applying for salamander. I do apologise for what I’ve done and if I need to do that to anyone specific, I have no issues with that.

This may seem very over-wrote but the reason does seem serious when laid out how it is. Being confronted saying I’ve apparently broken server rules on what is around 20 instances, so I believe a detailed appeal is necessary.

Alternate Accounts

I have no alternative accounts.

This has been put to an admin discussion and vote of which we have come to the consensus to issue a voucher requirement for further appeals.

The reasons provided in the discussion for this decision were the following:

  • Rationalizes use of slurs.
  • Justification is unacceptable.
  • Being a bigot is not RP.
  • Can prove improvement with a voucher.
  • Player seems generally toxic to the community.

You may appeal your ban, but only at least 6 months after your last ban, and only with a voucher of good behavior from another SS13/SS14 server.
A voucher of good behavior should be obtained from a well-known or decently active SS13/SS14 server. If it is a mainstream server, we recommend using that server’s admin-help to ask for a voucher from one of the administrators explaining that you are trying to appeal a ban on SS14’s Wizard’s Den and want to show you have been a problem-free player during your playtime on the server. A voucher should be indicative of at least a few months of play. If the voucher is not from a mainstream server, let us know and we will figure out a way to verify it.

Appeal Denied - Voucher must be provided on any future re-appeal.
