Fun with cardboard!

Cardboard Tube swords! Cardboard walls! cardboard armor that isnt the cardborg suit! None of it is useful or durable but damn would it be funny to just make a box fort in the middle of the hallway as a bunch of tiders!

I like this because current ways of building across hallways are borderline trolling/self antag. With this, the janitor (or anyone really) can just bonk the walls 3 times with their mop and the hallway is fully functional again.

Yes exactly! Less self antag more just… yknow, tiding!

Actually amazing idea

we also need cardboard chairs and desks so we can have cardboard stalls hehe~

I know this probably isn’t what you meant, but I immediately imagined sitting on the chair collapses it and vaulting on the table crushes it. You can put a moff or mouse on the chair (:

It’s just sad that i can find several stacks of cardboard in disposals and there’s nothing to do with them.

I started working on this tonight. Dont hold your breath tho, my coding skills are… not existent, but i think it might be all yml, so maybe it will work out.
Ill say if i drop the project.

What’s been done for cardboard structures.
Bullets pass through them but lasers collide (laser rifle 1 shots wall). (stools and tables collide like normal)
Cardboard takes 3x burn, 2x slash, 1x blunt and 0.1x pierce, the idea being that even a heavy bullet that would put cracks in a concrete wall would pass straight through a cardboard box doing next to no damage.
Walls take 3 card, doors take 5.
They drop half-ish build materials on break, or full materials on slice interaction.
Walls 30 hp, doors 25 hp, tables 15 hp and stools 10 hp.
Walls/doors don’t block airflow.
Walls/tables don’t have ā€˜joining’ sprites.
Walls/doors block line of sight.
Haven’t started on the cardboard items yet.
Sprite pallete from the cardboard box you can hide in.

Is this implementation liked?
All feedback wanted, never done anything like this before.

Not sure how I feel about cardboard being essentially bullet immune. If I unload on a cardboard wall with an L6 it should still get eviscerated.

I think I would also prefer if tables and walls could be joined for cardboard forts.

I’m not against doing joining textures, I’m just not sure how that interacts with rotating turned on and I don’t want card walls to merge into the stations steel walls. Tables weren’t joining as to stay consistent with the walls. I’ll have a play about and see if there is a way to have them joining without those issues. If anyone knows how to do that, I’d love to know.

I do want bullets to do a bit of damage on passthrough, that’s a little bit beyond me tho. I have a couple of more experienced people who I was gonna ask for assistance from on that issue.

I like what you got going on here :3, I’d say that cardboard walls would be nice to connect to other carboard walls so you could make cardboard forts, sheet walls would also be nice (like glass window, thin walls) I would say they should take reduced slash rather than 2x slash, if you’ve ever tried to cut open a package i’d say it doesn’t cut easy even if doable (slash x1)
Your table and chair sprite look really good and i’d use them as nice tables and stools i was more imagening like an upside down box for each, but your texture is so nice i wouldn’t want to not have your fancy table and stool.

like 95% done, just need some minor joining sprite fixes, a couple sound effects and to change my english spelling to american later, then ill pr.

Didnt get the damage on bullet passthrough done, im too inexperienced.

There is an arrow too, but the texture is assembled from a built in feature.
Everything is craftable by craft menu, is cheap, and is fragile, the sword does boxing glove like stun damage, arrow does stun damage and the armour resists a tiny amount of blunt and stun.

Tider warfare is inbound.

Edit: forgot i added so you can click on ground with cardboard to place card ā€˜carpets’

Hmm a wall that blocks line-of-sight but doesn’t stop bullets seems like an interesting mechanic–do we want that? I’m not against it, just, it’s interesting…

If we decide we don’t want that, the walls could be ā€œtransparentā€ as if they’re only half the ceiling height (like rails), like I imagine a box fort would be. Still impassible unless you break them.

I personally think its neat. they are very fragile anyway and its like reverse lazers, where Lazers pass glass and let you see pass it. cardboard block lazers and line of sight but bullets do go past it.

my first real pr, we will see if it goes anywhere
Also I did figure out the joining textures
