How to make Head Revs more fun

Head Revs are a gamemode a lot of people dont like, even though it is cool thematically and an antag that exists in the game that everyone can participate in.

The reason is simple: Revolutionaries aren’t encouraged to RP their role.
The more they RP, the more likely it is Sec can find out about them, and if they find out about them while there’s not many Revs, Revs will get stomped.

This results in games where Revs spend the whole round silent until everyone is converted where they start randomly jumping sec and command leaving everyone confused as to whats going on while Sec takes the remaining Command and bunkers down in Sec waiting for evac.

The way Sec should counter this is by getting mindshield implants from cargo and non lethally arresting crew and mindshielding them.

However, to do that, Sec needs to meta game its Revs because the Revs are silent.

My solution is to add a central command announcement that happens when a certain percentage of non-command/non-sec crew are turned into revolutionaries. This encourages Revs to stay below a certain number while they prep for the revolution, and once it happens encourages them to act fast while also giving Sec the ability to do things like move to Cargo and order mindshields before everything goes to shit.

And since everyone knows its a revolution, people are able to RP without fear of giving away that theres a silent revolution going on.

a PR to let mindshields be removed is being tested on vulture and seems to be doing well for encouraging more RP. One of the first rounds on the new system ended with the CE, QM, and CMO all being converted to revs. We’ll see how that goes.

step 1: remove revs untill rework done

step 2: no more frustrating gameplay and head roles going to cryo the moment they realize its revs

step 3: no more angry people and complaints

step 4: profit??

they allready have a rework doc (docs/src/en/space-station-14/round-flow/proposals/revolutionaries-codeword-rework.md at master · space-wizards/docs · GitHub) but that is obvioustly pending the chatcode refactor.

That doc is great. Full support. Someone medal the contributor once they finish the refactor. Lotta good features behind that.

This might be a bad idea but how about head revs are always department heads and it’s like a department war. (Civilian department don’ts count as one) So if the rd gets head revs they and all of sci are revs and now only people in the civilian department and passengers can be converted if not critical. anyone with out mind shields who are part of a different major department have to be critical to convert.
