I can go on for hours about the clowns place in SS13/14 like how people let you get away with legitimately anything while others shoot you for existing, it is both the most loved and most hated thing about the game.
It’s iconic nature makes noobs wanna play as a clown without understanding the games systems and therefore making a bad clown even the people that like clowns hate them and it probably makes that clown in training wanna quit entirely.
It’s a class with such a basic concept “be funny” but everything else around that has turned into a bit of a he said she said thing which will never be fully agreed upon or understood by the wider player base.
But if you really want some unofficial honk mother rules here are some I have received within a vision:
Don’t fuck with sec to the point your basically another antagonist, self antag-ing isn’t allowed in any job, the clown isn’t given a free pass for everything.
Be aware, some people won’t like your dirty jokes I have definitely learned that now after needing to fill out a ban appeal and most importantly SLURS ARENT FUNNY!!! We don’t live in 2012 anymore.
Always know when to stop a bit, some things go on for too long and if it gets to the point people are yelling at you to stop and beating you up, that doesn’t mean you tattle to sec, you just leave those guys alone, not everyone has to tolerate your presence much like real life.
Violence isn’t automatically comedy, it can be but you need willing participants, a theatrical build up to said violence and preferably a way of attack that will lead to less meds needing to be used on both of you by medical when you are dragged there by the time the fight is over.
A long time ago I did my magnum opus of clowning after hos wouldn’t let me be a security clown. I started vandalizing the station with lies about the hos like “HOS kicks puppies” and “HOS smells” when I was arrested and detained for vandalism (first time should have been a warning), I declared war against the officer breaking space law. When he got crit I followed him into medical and stripped him and flushed everything he had. I then led sec on a wild goose chase and eventually was caught. I then was given a ridiculously high time, and when I got out, I made a clown hardsuit, and went to salvage. I got a dead space carp. I convinced the chemists to help me revive it to prank sec, put it in a locker, and released it in sec after announcing that I brought them target practice. my final prank was then lube bombing sec on evac but was thwarted by a sec officer with a cleanade. I didn’t cause any havoc while there were serious threats to the station, and I only pranked people who had committed transgressions against the honkmother. I think the clown should be able to do pranks as long is they aren’t taking department resources that are seriously needed elsewhere. You should be able to do general pranks then get even when someone transgresses upon you.

As we can see on the chart.. the more you clown around the more likely you are to be a problem. the issue is it depends on the context of whats going on. When things are more chill you can get away with more, but if you do something big enough your more likely to have conerquences, My advice. try to tell jokes rather than be a pest, but if you are being a nonsense do it inverse relation to how much chaos is happening, dont lube bomb during nukies. but pieing HoS early on likely wont be an issue.
