Jarmer's Application

In-game Username: [Jarmer123]
Discord username: [Jarmer]
Characters you play: [Jonathan Benford primarily, I also play Slips-The-Crew, Makes-The-Money and Pets-The-Crew and a long time ago I played Marcus Gregory]

On average, how many hours do you expect to admin per week: [This heavily depends on outside factors but I should be able to get at least 12 hours a week if not more, I am very often on but my days can be very spontaneous]

Days you are available to admin on: [Usually most days, I love Space Station 14 so it is one of the main games I play when I am not busy working]

How old are you? [20]

Do you have any SS14 experience outside of Wizard’s Den servers, or any SS13 experience? [I have a bit of experience with SS13 on Paradise Station but most of my experience comes from SS14, according to steam I have 1166 hours but I do tend to forget to turn off the launcher so I am not aware of how much time I actually have in game but all of that is within Wizard’s den.]

Do you have prior administration experience (SS13/SS14 experience preferred, please also post a way for us to verify this)? [I have administered some smaller public Discord text RP servers that are no longer up, I have also administered on a Mordhau-modded Server that was quite popular for some time but that is also no longer around due to the mod being shut down]

Have you ever been banned from any SS14 or SS13 servers? [No]

Admins have the ability to perform various tasks which are not available to the average player. An incomplete list of these tasks is: in-game rule enforcement, in-game events, ban appeals, and out-of-game rule enforcement through things like replay/log reviews in response to player reports. With these, and any other tasks you’re aware of in mind, answer the following two questions.

What are you primarily interested in doing as an admin? [In-game rule enforcement/in-game events]

What are you least interested in doing as an admin? [Ban-appeals, although I am always happy to contribute in any way possible]

Answer the following questions in detail, so we can get a better idea of how you’d approach adminning.

What role do you think game admins serve on our servers?
[I believe their primary responsibility is to foster an environment where most people can have fun, it is after all a game to be enjoyed put to also make sure people follow the rules and follow up on any questions or reports to make sure people feel heard and see.]

Why do you want to become an administrator for SS14?
[I wish to help foster the environment I mentioned above and I believe I can. I am generally easygoing but I can also be stern when needed and I love helping others and making sure they feel included. I feel like it’s also a way to give back to a community who have brought me so much joy.]

How do you feel about the current roleplay status on the servers?
[As a LRP player, it would be wrong of me to say the current RP on the server is good. I believe the biggest problem right now is that there are unclear rules around metaknowledge. People see someone with a flash and sunglasses at the start of the round and yell “REV” in Common or security knowing how uplinks work and how this is handled is being dealt with without consistency, some players get warned whilst most of the time no action is taken, at least from my perspective as I am not aware of any messages being sent to players who engage in this behaviour. I would love to be part of the solution by helping brainstorm rule ideas or help create a more consistent ruling on such issues.]

Other than banning problematic players, what admin actions do you believe have the biggest positive impact?
[I believe a very important role admins have beyond just banning people is to welcome the new players and make sure they feel welcome and guide them should they stumble, to keep an extra eye on them as well as being good role models]

Have you ever had a negative experience in the game or with a game admin? If so what, if anything, would you do to prevent other players from experiencing this?
[No, not really, if you stay in the good lane admins usually leave you alone]

Have you ever had a good experience with the game or a game admin? If so, what was it?
[As I said, I have had very little interaction with the admin team but the few times I have had interaction with the admin team they have been pretty good. A round where I jokingly mugged a fellow lawyer for his briefcase and then did an escape attempt before getting a 22-minute timer on my brig was resolved by an admin without me needing to even contact an admin and made me feel seen.]

The following are scenarios, respond with how you would handle each as an administrator. Respond with the assumption that you are an administrator with full access to the admin tools, and that you have all the knowledge needed to use these tools. Respond in detail, explain the reasons behind decisions you make and describe any assumptions you are making. When you need to make an assumption, it is preferred for you to describe how differences in the assumption would affect your actions.

It is the start of the round. There are 60 players on the server. The game mode is traitors, traitors have not been selected yet. There are three players who decided to observe the round instead of join it orbiting you. Two of them are encouraging you to “do something funny” [Chances are I would go invisible at that point and ignore them. If they keep insisting on it I might just tell them no. I see no reason to upend the round for two players when there should be plenty of pet roles accessible at the start]

You see a clown using crayon to write on the floor in front of security. The clown writings are negative things about security, like “shitsec”. A secoff tells the clown that they’re being arrested for vandalism, stuns them, and cuffs them. Before the secoff is able to get the clown into the brig, a passenger slips the secoff, causing them to lose their baton, then uses the baton to stun another secoff that comes to help as the clown runs away. The passenger escapes through disposals. Having heard an AOS radio callout, the detective enters maintenance near disposals and shoots the passenger to crit. There are four players in this scenario, the clown, the passenger, the secoff, and the detective.
[In this scenario I do not see an issue up until the passenger slips the secoff. The clowns actions cant be deemed as self antag as it is a very minor case of vandalism and the secoff has a right to arrest the clown for it to deal with this issue in character. The problem here starts with the passenger who, if not being an antagonist, is on the hook for pretty blatant self-antag as freeing someone who is arrested is pretty disruptive and I would deal with this depending on their record. If they have a clear record I would contact them and get their side of the story and a remark on their record for self antag. If he has a long record then other measures could be considered but without further information, I can’t give an exact verdict, if I was unsure I would contact a fellow admin and explain the situation to them and get their opinion. Furthermore the detective I would also contact and ask why he shot the passenger with lethals. If the detective gets him medical attention ASAP and his record is clear a warning and remark could suffice here too but if he fails to provide medical attention or has a record of similar problems a temporary role ban might be in order to give them time to reflect over the rules.]

You and another admin have been adminning for around an hour. The rate of issues has been easily manageable due to having 2 admins. Neither of you have been talking in admin chat. You are using ahelp to warn a player for breaking a rule when the other admin joins the ahelp and confirms that it is against the rules, but that it’s fine in this case and they can ignore the rule for the rest of the round. You haven’t taken any other admin actions yet, such as applying a ban or writing a note.
[The first thing I would do is send the other admin a DM or talk on the admin chat and ask what he is doing and why he is doing what he is doing. Granted I do not get a good explanation I would contact a more senior administrator and tell them about it and get their opinion on it. If none are available I would reiterate to the person who is breaking the rules that he can not break the rules of the server (If it is a serious rule break or someone who is a repeat offender I would deal with it more harshly but without knowing what rule was broken I can only do so much) and I would report the situation forward to a senior Admin.]
