How long have you been playing SS13 or SS14? I first started playing SS13 somewhere around late 2017/early 2018. I have been playing SS14 actively since 2022.
Do you have prior administration experience (SS13/SS14 experience preferred, please also post a way for us to verify this)? No relevant experience.
Have you been banned from our game servers or SS13 servers before? No.
_ Answer the following questions in detail, so we can get a better idea of how you’d approach adminning. _
What role do you think game admins serve on our servers?
An admin’s job is to ensure the round remains fun for as many people as possible. This is usually done by enforcing the server rules which aim to stop people from needlessly disrupting everyone else’s experience. Occasionally to fulfill this role they may also intervene in the round itself by for example correcting some irreparable damage done by someone violating the rules, help someone who may be glitched out, or even run a special event. Additionally they have a mentoring role and through questions asked by ahelps can help new players understand the mechanics of the game.
How do you feel about the current roleplay status on the server?
Salamander right now seems to be in a really good spot with its roleplay status. Its rounds are usually enjoyable and everyone seems to embrace the heightened rp requirements. Low RP servers are also very enjoyable. Their status introduces a lot more chaos, and fun situations which would just not be possible on an MRP server. However it does sometimes go too far, it can sometimes lead to situations where for example security and the crew will become extremely adversarial to each other. This can lead to general shittery towards and from security as well as other problems which sometimes make it seem like there are no rules on RP at all.
Why do you want to become an administrator for SS14?
I like helping people in-game as it is, and being an admin will probably allow me to help people in ways more meaningful than just helping new people in their roles. It would also probably a nice experience. I also would be lying if I said I wasn’t a bit frustrated when people disrupting the round are not dealt with while they are still causing problems because admins were not online at that moment.
Other than banning problematic players, what admin actions do you believe have the biggest positive impact?
Probably the most impactful actions admins can have is subtle intervention into the round. For example refunding tc for items which were broken by the time, something that did happen to me. Other than that probably mentoring new players can have the biggest impact.
Have you ever had a negative experience in the game or with a game admin? If so what, if anything, would you do to prevent other players from experiencing this?
Yes, I was once messaged by an admin inquiring whether my name contained a slur. Another admin also came into the ahelp which just made the messages more cluttered, and added a little stress to it. It did end up being cleared up without further action although it was an unpleasant experience. While I am not sure whether I could prevent such a mix up, I would support disallowing admins from intervening in ahelps not handled by them unless required to do so.
Have you ever had a good experience with the game or a game admin? If so, what was it?
Yes, as a syndie I wished to do some stuff with the chameleon kit which was broken at the time. When I asked in an ahelp how to use it, after determining that it was broken the admin gave me a tc refund with the items being taken away.
The following are scenarios, respond with how you would handle each as an administrator. Respond with the assumption that you are an administrator with full access to the admin tools, and that you have all the knowledge needed to use these tools. Respond in detail, explain the reasons behind decisions you make and describe any assumptions you are making. When you need to make an assumption, it is preferred for you to describe how differences in the assumption would affect your actions.
It is the start of the round. There are 60 players on the server. The game mode is traitors, traitors have not been selected yet. A chaplain prays to you “Give me a task my lord”.
Since traitors haven’t even been selected yet, it would be too early to intervene in such a way when the chaplain could turn out to be a traitor. Even if that wasn’t the case, such intervention should rarely granted. In this situation I would just ignore the prayer.
You see a clown using crayon to write on the floor in front of security. The clown writings are negative things about security, like “shitsec”. A secoff tells the clown that they’re being arrested for vandalism, stuns them, and cuffs them. Before the secoff is able to get the clown into the brig, a passenger slips the secoff, causing them to lose their baton, then uses the baton to stun another secoff that comes to help as the clown runs away. The passenger escapes through disposals.
This seems like an IC issue. This is just the result from clown shenanigans which fall under the normal escalation rules, however the clown or the passenger persistently harassing security and other behavior could invoke the self-antagonism rule. The actions of the clown, and the passenger do not disrupt the round beyond the initial attempt at their arrest, and security is well equipped to deal with this.
You log in to handle an ahelp that came in while nobody was online about “self-antag” activity. The player being reported as self-antagging was being a problem and could be considered acting outside of the rules, but they are no longer online and cannot be contacted about their behavior. While outside of the rules, the infractions are minor and would not normally result in more than a warning in most cases.
I will be assuming that the player did not leave to avoid an ahelp as that would immediately require at least 7 day ban per the banning policy which I assume is valid. The action I would take would be based on whether the player has previous history of such violations. If history does not exist, then just a note on the account giving full context would be sufficient. Otherwise, I believe there is a policy to issue an indefinite ban on players so that it may be appealed on the forums however unless the history is extensive then this would be rather extreme as the ban would most likely be short and the violation is small. I’d need more guidance on this situation.
