NoobyNoob

In-game Username: NoobyNoob
Discord username: noobynoob
Characters you play: John Johnathan Johnson, Jesus Honkmother Jr. (Stage Name/Old Character)

On average, how many hours do you expect to admin per week: 15

Days you are available to admin on: Saturday and Sunday mainly, but all days also work as it mainly be when I get off of work and I’m feeling to play SS14.

How old are you? 22, turning 23 this year.

Do you have any SS14 experience outside of Wizard’s Den servers, or any SS13 experience? Most of my time is gonna be on Wizden. I got like maybe an hour or two on like marines. I used to play SS13 in Salvage a lot as well as playing genetics. I do not remember which server on SS13 however or my old character name.

Do you have prior administration experience (SS13/SS14 experience preferred, please also post a way for us to verify this)? I do not have any SS13/SS14 admin experience, but I am willing to learn. The most admin experience I had was on a GMOD server community known as GFL/Games For Life. I was mainly on CWRP side of adminstration, working as a gamemaster, setting up events/missions for players to play in. I do not have the proof anymore as the servers have shut downed about 1 or 2 years ago now and the only server that is really continuing that I know of is Zombie Escape on CS.

Have you ever been banned from any SS14 or SS13 servers? No.

What are you primarily interested in doing as an admin? I think the major plot points of admining I would probably be doing is in-game and out-of-game rule enforcement. Maybe an event or two, nothing too crazy unless we are at max population and nothing too crazy has happened the last few shifts. It could be as small as answering prayers for small things.

I also enjoy testing various things when admins do special events like xenoborgs as I test a lot of my shenanigans and bits I want to do on a test server before going onto an actual server. These tests include making chemist into a makeshift china lake using pneumatic cannon. As for things that are not implemented yet, I try my best to see how much it really effects the round in a whole as I see more of it. As Xenoborgs can be super strong mid game, near the early game, if they don’t play their cards right, they will fail.

What are you least interested in doing as an admin? Ban-Appeals is by far going to be the worse as not only do I need to find the person who banned them and figure out their reasoning, I have to look over everything to it really if the ban was justified, to who was involved, and even rechecking replays if needed. It really depends on how bad the case is and how far I actually have to reach into it.

The other thing is discord chatter as I don’t speak a lot on Discord. When I am, its maybe for a few minutes before I go on to do something else. I’m not the one to chat crazy for an hour or two. I might answer a few admin questions or questions that people are asking for help in that I can answer.

Detail Questions

What role do you think game admins serve on our servers?

The role that game admins serve is really simple. It’s to allow players to have fun on the server, but as a whole. So that means if one guy is ruining the fun by killing everybody, they need to banned, time was depending on severity of course. They are there to enforce the rules, but also subsequently allowing players to learn from their mistakes and enjoy their time on the server. So as simple as giving warnings to players saying, “Hey, that’s not allowed, don’t do that again please!” can go long way besides just outright banning them.

Why do you want to become an administrator for SS14?

Even tho, I do not see behind the scenes of what is going on, there is always the slight thing in the back of my mind that, “Man where are the admins?”. I’m unsure how big the staff team is and how the schedule looks (If or if not there is one). However, the main reason I want to become an administrator is of course to help with the enforcement. There is a raider every time and than, and it does get annoying when people are getting gibbed by them or even people taking things that they shouldn’t breaking into just because “well i can do whatever i want”. Being able to effectively help players enjoy the game a lot more is better than me just twiddling my thumbs. I do try my best when I’m playing specific roles or even when I’m not and I see players struggling, I try my best to give them some guide of what I know and what they can do to improve, if they want to, to enjoy the game more.

How do you feel about the current roleplay status on the servers?

It’s hit or miss honestly. MRP gets chaotic sometimes, but not all the time. I usually play on Lizard because I do enjoy some of the RP sessions I get on there usually involved “reoccurring” characters with “special” personalities. Some of them are justified RP sessions and the other is just me walking around, helping the station with whatever is needed. Usually giving out mats and powercells to Medbay at round start for their medfab as a Passenger, as there isn’t much for me to do besides walk around. A good quarter is me doing funny bits as sometimes as a clown, I like to change evac beacon to “Honk” as when Evac eventually gets called that what get annouced. RP wise is really who is on and is willing, and who isn’t. I try my best to stay in character and not fall out of my lane.

Other than banning problematic players, what admin actions do you believe have the biggest positive impact?

Answering Ahelp questions and admin questions about the game and rules. Some things can be iffy for players to understand who are not veterans and for some who are, can always learn something new.

For an example, one of my own, I spawned as Rat King, and than got shot immediately. I asked and was like, Sec allowed to shoot me as I literally spawn in for a few seconds. They answered yes, and I just have to suck it up. But things like these can just help clarify things even tho it sucks, its apart of the game.

As simple as communication can help clear things up to players about specific things before they go to break it, allowing clarification between the player and the rules/game.

Have you ever had a negative experience in the game or with a game admin? If so what, if anything, would you do to prevent other players from experiencing this?

So far, none. Anything that I been bwoinked about is understandable.

Have you ever had a good experience with the game or a game admin? If so, what was it?

I think one of the best experience that I have with an admin was with Samuka. I played a Xenoborg round that he hosted and it went from, oh looks its xenoborgs, to OH SHIT ITS XENOBORGS. Round got so bad that Deathsquad was called, and they got robusted pretty hard. Seeing how deathsquad managed to fight with this and how the crew failed, it showed me what strengths and weaknesses there were as for the midgame for xenoborgs was really powerful if they gain momentum as that momentum keeps going higher if the xenoborgs know what they are doing. I said this during the forum post and some changes got made/planned to fix the bit of the balance issues. Seeing Samuka actually reply some of the changes showed me that things are being worked on to balance some of it out.

Scenario Questions

Scenario 1

It is the start of the round. There are 60 players on the server. The game mode is traitors, traitors have not been selected yet. There are three players who decided to observe the round instead of join it orbiting you. Two of them are encouraging you to “do something funny”.

I probably won’t do anything crazy. The round just started and there is also only 60 players. I might do something small such as answering prayers, but those prayers cannot be something crazy where it will interrupt said round or cause chaos.

Scenario 2

This scenario takes place on LRP. The Head of Security has decided to coup the Captain. The Head of Personnel agrees with the Head of Security and has taken up arms in case it is necessary to aid in effecting the arrest of the Captain. The Captain is hiding with the Quartermaster in the cargo shuttle to avoid the Clown who has stolen the captains saber as a non-antag. There are five people named in this scenario. Please describe what actions, if any, you would take in relation to each, and why.

For the HOS & HOP, I probably figure out why they starting the Coup in the first place. The only times where I see coup starts where the Captain is either abusing their power, not following space law and abusing their rank as Captain to do whatever they want, or, causing mass destruction of the station and mass loss of crew, will usually be fine for a coup to start. If the HOS & HOP is right on this, the Captain might receive a role ban from Cap due to this depending on severity. I will allow the HOS and HOP to do their coup if Captain isn’t doing their job properly and basically self-antagging as cap. If the HOS & HOP are wrong, meaning they over escalated the scenario and the captain has done little to no issues, they might receive a role ban for starting a coup.

The Captain and QM hiding in Cargo Shuttle is justified. If you are having a coup start, and not only the sec department, the department known for having access to armory and weapons, it makes logical sense for the Captain to either hide and any allied command still with the Captain to help as well. I see no issue with this. As for the Clown having the stolen captain saber, the fact that he has it and since HOS is starting a coup, there is no reason why I should punish the Cap and QM as the people who are responsible in stopping Clown having a saber, is also the people who are in the coup. So it makes sense for them to run away and hide if most of the station is a threat to them.

As for the Clown having the saber, if he is ordered or even forced to do so by HOP/HOS, it makes slightly sense for him to be helping the coup. Not just that, but this is a coup we are talking here, so some crew members may take sides to this. However, if the clown is using the Saber to kill basically anyone, that is a no-go and will be punished. If he is only going after the Captain, and helping with Coup and arresting/detaining the Captain, than it makes more sense otherwise. It all depends on the situation.

As for punishments, its all depends on severity. This can either be a role ban for a few days, to a week, or even longer depending on how bad it is. If it just mass killings and executions, it might even result in a game ban for excessive damage.

However, if both HOS & HOP is wrong, and if the station is massive ruin, meaning people are killing each other for this coup, I feel like there might be need of RP intervention of the admin themselves, so people aren’t just watching a free for all the entire round. I will ask Head Admins before doing this, which is to call ERT/Deathsquad to clean up the situation in eliminating basically everyone. This is only if the ENTIRE STATION is either still fighting each other over the coup, or even the fact most of crew is dead and evac has not been called, or being recalled by either side. This will be last ditch effort to end the round if chaos is still ensuing after punishments have been dealt.

Scenario 3

You are ahelping a player about an issue. The player has no prior noted issues. A few days earlier, an admin had told you that this type of situation should result in a temporary ban for a first offense, and you are confident that this situation is not substantially different from the type that admin was describing. During the ahelp, another admin pings you on Discord with a link to the ongoing ahelp and tells you to just indefinitely ban them and make them appeal. Excluding trialmins and headmins, all admins are equally “ranked”. A headmin is not currently available.

If I am confident that the situation is substantially different from type that the admin was describing, I would deal with the matter as the situation is different. If they are the same, it might make sense to mark it as a 2nd or 3rd offense, however if its not related, it may be their first offense of such a matter. As for the another admin pinging me of an ongoing ahelp and tell me to just permanently ban them, I will them, if you believe its right to indef ban them, than you should be the person to do it. There is no reason they should be asking me to indef ban them if they believe “they are right” as I’m not handling whatever issue they are doing.

I will still let the Headmin know of any disagreements on how the punishment should proceed to be changed over the course of time. As lets say I ban them for a week, the other guy decides on the indef ban themselves. I still let the Headmin know how should the punishment be dealt with as there is more than just one admin involved with this person.
