Ban reason: "Lizard 78171. Minor failure to follow silicon laws. Self-Antag. Ahelp evasion. As borg, was slipping people with soap. When ordered to stop, said "wong law, shit ass" and refused. Disconnected ..."
Length of ban: Indefinite/Appeal-Only
Ban Issue:
I did what I was banned for, but the ban is unreasonably harsh

Events leading to the ban

Full Ban Reason (Message too long):
"Lizard 78171. Minor failure to follow silicon laws. Self-Antag. Ahelp evasion. As borg, was slipping people with soap. When ordered to stop, said “wong law, shit ass” and refused. Disconnected from ahelp during conversation. You can appeal this on the forums. "

Forgive my foggy memory, it has been a while since I received the ban. The message is pretty accurately depicting the events leading to the bad. It was early on in the round and I was pretty bored on borg, so I decided to start dragging around some soap for a cheap laugh. Eventually, someone commanded me with “borg, law 1, stop dragging the soap”. It could have been “law 3” but I precisely remember then citing the “wrong law” for the request they were asking, so I was just being cheeky and used some “overly colourful” language to express my dissatisfaction that a crew member would try and stop a borg from doing something as harmless as dragging soap around with no present threats.

This is when I can only assume the person who commanded me ahelped reporting a borg that was breaking silicon rules. I tried to argue two points, I believe:

  • One, that the crew member cited the “wrong law” and that I was free to continue since they incorrectly commanded me. This admittedly was a cheap attempt to get away continuing to drag the soap around.
  • Two, that somewhere along the line I began to misinterpret the silicon law that goes something along the lines of “you can ignore unreasonable requests”. I believe over my long playtime on silicon made me jaded towards certain commands and I began to use this as a blanket “I can ignore this because I deemed it unreasonable” when in reality I was using it incorrectly and selfishly.

This argument only heated my attitude towards the ahelp. The admin messaged me saying that I was going to be receiving some sort of ban/punishment and I decided I heard enough and closed the game. I figured since we had a dialogue about the events leading up to the ahelp and that the admin got the info they needed from me to determine the punishment that I was free to go. I was impatient and upset by this point so I just decided to close the game, not knowing that the ahelp wasn’t over.

The only thing I can’t fully speak on is the “self-antag” remark. Unless however, being a disobedient borg is considered self-anta, then please disregard this last paragraph. It has been a while since I’ve played or thought about the game, so my knowledge on certain terms and rulings is hazy.

Reason the ban should be removed

Upon receiving notice of an Appeal only ban after cooling off for a bit, I figured it was best to take to take an extended break. I realized I was becoming quickly annoyed with the game and was in a bad mental headspace while playing it. It became less of a “lets play with the community” and more of a “lets entertain myself with disregard to the community”. I would frequently get immediately irritated when ahelped, despite clearly knowing why I was being ahelped.

However, I think I have had sufficient time to reset my expectations and attitude towards the game and its community, and I would like to be given an opportunity to prove that. I am sincerely sorry for the way I expressed and handled myself leading up to my ban.

Thank you for you time.

Yeah, you don’t need to specify “Second Law” for a command to be valid, some people do that to remember the borg they have to do it, but is not required, but you can totally be sassy and say “wrong law” (as long you still follow the command)

Yeah, We can’t cover all examples of what could be considered unreasonable, but I believe “stop dragging the soap” is from the realm of reasonable requests. You could however do some malicious compliance, grab the soap again and say “you didn’t specify for how long”

Overall it was a minor stuff that could have been resolved by a short silicon roleban, so next time ask the admin if you can disconnect or if they still have any questions.

It’s been a while since you were banned. So I am going to remove your ban, welcome back.
