Is it against the rules to hide these items? I’ve know many command to do that and I personally dislike it. But that’s basically powergaming too. part of me feels like it’s fine and fun to be targetted as command, but it can also be frustrating when there’s no answer to it ever either. You don’t know who’s targeting you. So it’s a lose/lose. Removing powergaming is the better option right now until there’s possibly better ways to fight back or identify threats.
I did not say anything about hiding, but yes hiding is against the rules.
Best bet as command right now to protect your items is to always have it on you, or to lend it to others in a reasonable fashion.
Funnily enough it’s not powergaming to always have stuff on you.
Well no, of course not lol. I mean in terms of people who do. And the whole “giving it to people” is a weird one also, since I dunno if a CMO can still get in trouble for giving para the handheld monitor.
Since the rule refactor apparently CMO have been giving it and it’s fair play. Weird. Different server culture I guess.
I honestly don’t see powergaming as blatant as described here often at all. As a pure LRP player (so I will only be speaking for LRP), and one that frequents command roles, I’ve seen my fair of HOPs with decards and caps with batons and cuffs with a full sec team, but hardly ever anything as extreme as described in the original post. Despite this I can hardly say it’s an issue. I mean sure it’s annoying when you finally manage to break into the caps office and they didnt keep their spare there or when the emergency sec orders are anywhere but the hos’s locker (and don’t get me started on the 50/50 odds of wherever the hell the crew monitor is) but even despite these annoyances I have never considered that command members stashing them somewhere (reasonably) or utilizing an unothodox method should be considered a rule break. If you start adding rules such as “You should only seek to utilize equipment available to your job roundstart” or prohibiting things like stashing items within your winter coat within your wardrobe and bolting doors to offices I feel you really start to enact a deconstructive force upon player freedom. SS14 is a game with a myriad of tools to play with, why should only the antags get to use them? It’s not like any of these obstacles are hard to get across and sometimes not getting across them is part of the fun!
Again, I’m not trying to argue a cap should requisition some galoshes or a CE should carry a lecter around on green, but it’s honestly a very small subset of people power gaming to such an egregious extent and it shouldn’t warrant bringing the hammer down on everyone else.
For LRP, that is.
