as an admin once told me shuttle bombing goes against rule 9 which is to not cause mass casualties unless you have DAGD. i just think its too easy and people just wait for shuttle just to bomb it even if they dont have any kill targets.
The problem is that enforcing this via rules just creates tons of extra admin workload. This should be mechanically enforced instead.
Maybe objective should be checking not for them being dead but for them not making it to centcom at all in any original part.
We have contract with centcom but theres dead body that does not even require cloning did syndie really remove them for syndicate? Maybe not even brain or anything that can be used for cloning should make it to centcom?
That way simply spacing or throwing one grenade while most sec does not even know whats happening won’t guarantee full greentext without exposing yourself to more danger and being more obvious.
I’m going to be honest, I didn’t even know this was against the rules until I saw this post.
But I do have an idea:
I recently saw some YouTube videos about SS13, and noticed a feature where the employer has policies for all agents to follow, including “ethical” standards. Such as mass harm being frowned upon.
I think there’s an in-lore way to discourage people from shuttle bombing. In addition to mechanical punishments that could be issued by their employer, such as donk. Co triggering a hidden failsafe acidifier implant, or terminating their employment as an agent, automatically failing each task.
[Edit: I have submitted a Feature request that further explores this concept.]
As per the discussion on discord today: as a first step, uplinks should not work on the shuttle. The suggested specific way to implement this was that they should stop the moment the evac shuttle arrives. And at first glance that sounds fine to me.
After that, unfortunately there aren’t currently any tools yet to effectively catch people from bringing bombs on board, but this will already make it more stressful and difficult to prepare a shuttle attack since, at least theoretically, the traitor CAN be caught before boarding, and has to have inventory space for all the equipment that will be used.
We could add bomb detectors, perhaps. Walkthrough gates might be the best, they would be fixed in place and maybe people could still trick gear past it, somehow
Uplinks ceasing to work making sec checkpoints before/at evac more meaningful as they can’t just pass it and spawn bombs on other side alone is big improvement.
And we even have guaranteed holobarriers in every single secbelt too now!
people would just metagame carrying a stack of brains with them to centcomm.
really, it should be alternative routes to centcomm or something similar.
Good idea in general.
But there should be exceptions or change in antag mission structure.
For an example if target i group of people that should be exception. While bombing for “lolz” should not be a exception
