Since revolutionaries have been added to the game I’ve seen more often times than not that security or cargo or command or whoever will instantly order mindshields at the start of the round irregardless of if there have been confirmed revolutionaries or not. I think this is a symptom of how unbalanced revolutionaries can be and people just not wanting to even participate in the gamemode but also it’s powergaming from the people who are mindshielding instantly. Does anyone have any thoughts?
What’s the alternative?
A revolutionary gets arrested, security doesn’t have mindshields ready and can’t verify that they are a revolutionary without them.
a) they get brigged for a few minutes because revs dont have syndicate items or uplinks
b) they get perma because they killed someone and got caught in the act (unlikely, as even murder gets a small brig timer nowadays with hugbox hos/wardens.)
Option A) doesn’t change the round and it’s assumed it’s a normal greytider #432545.
Option B) actively harms the round progression as now there’s a potential rev head in perma, round never concludes.
In my own opinion a way of fixing this “it feels like power gaming” is by adding another use for mindshields. I think adding multiples uses would give more of a reason to order them than “just in case revs” if mindshields were a basic piece of sec equipment then ordering them would be like ordering a non lethal crate.
If you are wondering what kind of uses they can have I can give examples. Wizard Mindswap, Syndicate Hypno Flash, Cultists. this is all I can think of currently. Sec should be able to buy sec equipment without having to feel like they are powegaming

It should indeed be able to do that. Reality is that even the department lathe is accessible only by the Warden and HOS (except on 2 maps).
In my opinion, the very concept of cargo directly ordering and handling crates is flawed. Cargo should not be able to order anything related to any other department, every department should have an order-console and crates shouldn’t be so easy to bust open.

You make a good point. giving every department their own ordering console is an idea tested and proven to work is SS13.
The only issue with something like this is devolvement time (making a UI in this game is worse than being forced to listen to baby shark for 10 hours) and the topic of should department budget be a thing and how do they get money.
and crates are pretty much made indestructible would make change tip the scales in certain gamemodes. Nukies/Zombies is harder on the crew because if there is no one to open the Med/Sec crates then you have to spend a ungodly amount of time trying to beat them open with a crowbar. For Traitors/Revs It makes it harder for them to access guns for free which is a good change forcing them to use C4/EMAG to open a crate, and forcing revs to acquire the right ID. that puts more value on HoS’s/Warden’s ID
Mindshields are standard protocol for security and head to have… They recieve them at the start of the round, but there aren’t usually enough to take down a rev group.
