The Den Hub Appeal

Username: sleepyapril

Dehubbed server: The Den

Link to dehub announcement: [2024/12/17] Dehubbing of Einstein Engines servers

Reason for server being Dehubbed:
Condoning harassment

Reason the server should be rehubbed:
I have left EE entirely and no longer contribute directly to their repository. Their team does not include me. I have publicly denounced their actions in my discord, and if you require evidence of that, you may DM me at sleepy.april or have someone search EE.

Apologies for not getting to this sooner. Hub appeal process is still being streamlined and, given the nature of the appeal itself, I wanted to take the extra time to read up on everything that originally led to the strikes/dehub of The Den and pretty much any affiliate of Einstein Engines as a whole. Suffice it to say, it was a shitshow and arguably still is.

I’ll cut to the chase though. Reviewing your recent appeals has me concerned, since PJB pretty readily highlighted that denying affiliation with the main group that was in part responsible for your server being dehubbed, while still being a contributor of that server. This indicated enough of a contradiction to deny the appeal as of May 5th, approximately two months ago. Has anything significant really occurred within that two month span, or do you have a clarification of facts to make in that regard?

To be clear you are more than welcome to respond here (it should be enabled for all parties at this time) so if you have anything to share here that indicates you’ve genuinely gone separate ways from EE as a whole, you may do so here.

In my other appeal, I had never once stated I had fully cut ties with them. In this appeal, I’m openly broadcasting that I:

  1. Do not support them.
  2. Do not consider them my upstream.
  3. Am no longer in their discord.
  4. Am no longer in their GitHub organization.
  5. Agree, in full, with everything stated about EE by WizDen and PJB.

I’ll quote an announcement I made to my entire discord, publicly:

Good morning Denners!

I’ve recently made the decision to move The Den away entirely from Einstein Engines. This choice is entirely on my own and comes after multiple attempts to help them stay on the right track, whether that be moderating their discord to keep disrespect of Wizard’s Den away, or to change the direction development is heading as a maintainer. Despite their flaws, I tried to see the downstreams and players of EE as more important and worthwhile to expend effort on than the transparent negligence and disrespect of their leadership, including but not limited to what happened with Wizard’s Den.

As of recently, with ODJ becoming their leader (this being the biggest issue), and his recent non-apologetic bashing of an ex-contributor, I can no longer in good conscience even attempt thinking I should contribute to that toxic and horribly managed environment. Alongside this, the direction Einstein Engines as a codebase is heading is drifting away from my ideals and goals in such a way that it would be far too much effort to maintain when our upstream clearly does not care as much about our efforts as I would want them to.

Any and all contributions to The Den should now be directly made to our codebase and I highly encourage you to not contribute to Einstein Engines at all given their actions to contributors.

I, as a developer, owner, and a human being, do not support bashing and demeaning people who have helped shape our community to what it is today. There is never a reason to go so far and insult someone so much who has done countless things to make you think about what you’re doing and how you’re implementing it. I will never demean someone who disagrees with me, even if they end up being provably wrong, because at the end of the day it’s people like that whox help make The Den and other communities a better and more fun place.

I have for a while only wished to be in EE for the sake of my fellow downstreams and their players, providing fixes and keeping the peace where I can. I can no longer, in any circumstance, give them any standing but the following: Einstein Engines is, and will continue to be, a harassment fork, ran by people who freely use slurs on people who have supported and contributed to them and the entirety of their success.

While we were denied our hub appeal, I have not entertained the idea that we ever needed the hub in the first place. We have grown through our players because of the very simple fact that we keep our people safe, comfortable, and as happy as we can. This announcement is simply another step towards the goal of preserving our community safety, removing threats.

TL:DR; The Den officially refuses to associate itself with Einstein Engines, TCJ, and ODJ due to their unapologetic harassment of a prolific contributor to their codebase. We were recently denied a hub appeal by Wizard’s Den, but this had no bearing on this decision.

I also plan to remove us from all hubs we are currently on to ensure that our playerbase is entirely vouched for. We will continue to port some content from EE, but we will no longer be seeing ourselves as a fork of them.

-# To be extra clear, the disrespect of a specific contributor included slurs yelled at them for over a minute in a voice message on discord. While I do not support harassment and insulting other forks, I do absolutely support genuine critique and discussion of other forks at a fundamentally constructive level. For obvious reasons, I will not be posting the evidence of this, but I know at least 3 people who could attest to these actions.

This announcement was made on May 12th, seven days after my appeal, when I officially and fully cut ties and no longer agreed with my previous claims about EE in their entirety. If you wish for a discord link, in which you do not need to be whitelisted to verify that this announcement does exist, you can message me privately.
