Characters you play: Malenia Winters, Bites-The-Bullets

On average, how many hours do you expect to admin per week: 20

Days you are available to admin on: Friday-Sunday

How old are you? 24

Do you have any SS14 experience outside of Wizard’s Den servers, or any SS13 experience? Majority of my hours are on Wizden, with maybe 50+ hours on RMC14 and an hour on Starlight.

Do you have prior administration experience (SS13/SS14 experience preferred, please also post a way for us to verify this)? I have not had any SS13/SS14 admin experience but I have done a bit of moderating on SCP:SL servers.

Have you ever been banned from any SS14 or SS13 servers? No.

What are you primarily interested in doing as an admin? I’m interested in contributing to the community by being a reliable source of help, whether that be through advice, answering ahelps, and thorough in-game help. I can understand from a players perspective that is can be annoying needing help and not being able to find it anywhere, I’d like to help reduce the likelihood of that happening if I am around.

I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t interest in doing in-game events, those seem to bring in a lot of the community to participate and I’d love to see people just having fun with a silly event or two. I’m not good or familiar with coding, so I view admin events as a potential way for me to give to the community even if it’s just one round, it can help give them something potentially memorable.

What are you least interested in doing as an admin? Ban appeals comes first to my mind when I think of least interesting. I’ve dealt with ban appeals in the past and feel like I’ve seen them all. That said, it wouldn’t prevent me from doing them if I was requested/expected to.

Detail Questions

What role do you think game admins serve on our servers?

To be a source of explanation, enforcement, and to be the oil in the machine. If someone needs explanations on a certain rule or borg law, admins can provide explanations or clarification if available. These explanations can reduce the likelihood of someone breaking a rule and allow for smoother gameplay for all parties. Without admins, the servers would fall quickly in chaos, confusion, and eventually end up killing the playability of the server.

Why do you want to become an administrator for SS14?

I started on Hopper when it was around and when it left and I enjoyed every second of that server. I was able to learn a lot from both the players and admins and because of me being able to learn the game properly, I was able to stick it out and figure out my place in the game.

I’m not wonderful with coding/programming and I’ve enjoyed my time on Wizden overall. I’d love to give back to the community as they have given me an amazing experience when it came to learning and playing. I’d like to be that person that people can ask help to and I can provide them with answers or guidance.

How do you feel about the current roleplay status on the servers?

It can be a very mixed experience, I spend majority of my time in Salamander so I get to experience more roleplaying than I would in an LRP server. That said, I still come across gameplay where there lacks any roleplay but I don’t expect every single player to want to sit down for a conversation. Of course, I have seen my fair share of people breaking rules and getting away with it, I don’t expect the admins to be watching all (up to) 80 players movements.

Other than banning problematic players, what admin actions do you believe have the biggest positive impact?

Guidance, I think being able to answer ahelps and questions by the players, I can be a positive impact on the community of Wizden. Whether it’s an experienced player asking for explanations on more complex metashielding questions or new players simply looking for help on controls, what to do, and how to do it. I’d like to be able to give aid to all players of all experience and hopefully increase the likelihood of them enjoying the game/round.

Have you ever had a negative experience in the game or with a game admin? If so what, if anything, would you do to prevent other players from experiencing this?

I’ve never had a negative interaction with an admin, I’ve had very few interactions overall excluding admin events.

The only thing I can think of preventing negative experiences is that all players should read the rules carefully as expected when joining a server. I’ve seen many people break the eorg rule in Salamander and simply state “I thought this was LRP.” As long as people can read the rules and understand them clearly, then I think a lot of the meta-gaming and metashield breaking could potentially be reduced.

Have you ever had a good experience with the game or a game admin? If so, what was it?

An admin put permanent cat ears on me after a “surgeon” stole them from one of CMO’s cats. Security was not pleased by this permanent contraband but it made for a very fun and funny interaction with them trying to take them off of me.

Scenario Questions

Scenario 1

It is the start of the round. There are 60 players on the server. The game mode is traitors, traitors have not been selected yet. There are three players who decided to observe the round instead of join it orbiting you. Two of them are encouraging you to “do something funny”.

I would wait until later in the round to host a vote to “spice things up” due to the fact that not all traitors want an admin round, even though if a vote comes in, majority will likely say yes. I wouldn’t want to do anything major right off the bat as that is a risk of ruining the round in terms of roleplay and stability.
If the roleplay could call for it, I could see spawning a CC inspection, as it could also give the traitors some funny opportunities to wreak havoc. However, it would have to be a correct scenario for CC to come do an inspection.
There is also the possibility of spawning the players as funny entities in a hidden room somewhere off station or on an empty nukie planet, and just messing with them while keeping it out of the main round.

Scenario 2

This scenario takes place on LRP. The Head of Security has decided to coup the Captain. The Head of Personnel agrees with the Head of Security and has taken up arms in case it is necessary to aid in effecting the arrest of the Captain. The Captain is hiding with the Quartermaster in the cargo shuttle to avoid the Clown who has stolen the captains saber as a non-antag. There are five people named in this scenario. Please describe what actions, if any, you would take in relation to each, and why.

The HoS: Given if the HoS has a proper reason to want to start a coup against the Captain, I would let it play out as long as it stays reasonably civil and in character. When it comes to dealing with command members legally, it would be the HoS’s job to do so. If a rule gets broken, then I would respond to it via ahelp.

The HoP: While the HoP should not be getting themselves into a potential combat situation, I’d have to observe the following: Is security wildly understaffed or spread thin? Has the captain made a threat against the HoP? Or did the HoP just pick up a krammerer and decided to charge the captain for the fun of it? If the first two didn’t apply but the last one did, I would likely ahelp them to remind them that it is securitys job to deal with potential threats and that they should focus on filling in for the captain as they have likely abandoned their post to fly away on the shuttle.

The QM: From the looks and sounds of it, it is likely that the QM is either on the captains side or has been forced to fly them away in the cargo shuttle. They have likely been caught in the crossfire of this situation and don’t mean any harm to the roleplay or the rules themselves. I would unlikely do anything about the QM.

The Captain: I’d be curious to know why the HoS feels a coup is necessary, I have no idea what this captain did to warrant it but what I do know is that flying around the station on a cargo shuttle as captain is frowned upon. It can be counted as round stalling and role abandonment on a role that is agreed to be an important one. Though, I’d have to look at it from his potential perspective, did he get into a fight with the clown and lost his saber? Perhaps that is why he’s trying to run and maybe the clown framed him as the instigator so that the HoS would take his side? That said, the only immediate action I can think of taking would to be to ahelp them and inform them that they need to return on station to avoid breaking a rule.

The Clown: Stealing important items as a non-antag is breaking a rule, but I have to view this from a potential clown perspective. Did the clown slip the captain, take the saber and start running away or did he steal the saber, attack the captain, and chase him to cargo?

However, this whole situation relies on what the captain did, and I think that would be the most important fact to look at.

If the captain did something wrong:
I would likely ask the captain what it was they did wrong and why HoS and HoP want them gone. I would also let them know that flying around in space on the cargo shuttle isn’t allowed for the captain and that they need to return to the station.
As long as the clown stole the saber in self defense and didn’t try and become a self antagonist with it, I’d likely leave them alone.
I’d also ask the HoS what the situation was leading up to the coup in order to paint a clearer picture and get another side to the story.
The same with the HoP, I’d ask them why they are armed and chasing after the captain.
I personally would not bother ahelping the QM as they seem to just be caught in the middle of it.

If the captain did nothing wrong:
I’d do the same as I did if the captain was in the wrong, and that is to gather all sides to the story. With that said, I would likely inform the HoS that an unruly coup is against the rules and that they should cease trying to overthrow the captain in power. I would let the HoP know not to pick up arms unless it is in an absolute emergency, and I would let the clown know to not steal important items such as the saber without being an antagonist.

Scenario 3

You are ahelping a player about an issue. The player has no prior noted issues. A few days earlier, an admin had told you that this type of situation should result in a temporary ban for a first offense, and you are confident that this situation is not substantially different from the type that admin was describing. During the ahelp, another admin pings you on Discord with a link to the ongoing ahelp and tells you to just indefinitely ban them and make them appeal. Excluding trialmins and headmins, all admins are equally “ranked”. A headmin is not currently available.

I would likely rely on WIzden’s banning policy and match the situation to the corelating punishment. If the broken rule calls for a permanent (but appealable) ban, then I would inform the player of that and process it as it should be. However, I would also inform the headmin of the action taken and discuss it with them when they are available to get their input on the situation and I would make changes from there if needed.
