In-game Username: Ugaluga
Discord username: Ugaluga
Characters you play: Mainly Garrett Garland, the “lesser” characters I play are Jordyn Clark and Seneca Woodward.
On average, how many hours do you expect to admin per week: I’d assume around 10 - 20 hours in a week.
Days you are available to admin on: all days of the week.
How old are you? 22 years.
Do you have any SS14 experience outside of Wizard’s Den servers, or any SS13 experience? No.
Do you have prior administration experience (SS13/SS14 experience preferred, please also post a way for us to verify this)? Yes, but not in SS14 or 13. I have moderated 4 Discord servers and one Minecraft server.
Have you ever been banned from any SS14 or SS13 servers? No.
Admins have the ability to perform various tasks which are not available to the average player. An incomplete list of these tasks is: in-game rule enforcement, in-game events, ban appeals, and out-of-game rule enforcement through things like replay/log reviews in response to player reports. With these, and any other tasks you’re aware of in mind, answer the following two questions.
What are you primarily interested in doing as an admin? I would like to help keep the peace and help people have a good time. Also I’d like to do events on the Salamander server.
What are you least interested in doing as an admin? Ban-appeals and Moderating LRP.
_ Answer the following questions in detail, so we can get a better idea of how you’d approach adminning. _
What role do you think game admins serve on our servers?
They keep the peace, help people where needed and overall help people have a good Roleplaying experience every round.
Why do you want to become an administrator for SS14?
I’d like to be an Admin because I’ve played fairly long and I’ve grown very attached to the game and it’s community. I’d like to help ensuring that keeps being a good experience.
How do you feel about the current roleplay status on the servers?
After I got whitelisted for Salamander I have really only played on Salamander, but I’ve played on Lizard before I was whitelisted and that place is a mess. People don’t roleplay at all, they just do their job in silence. For example, the syndicate agents don’t even try to Roleplay they just want to achieve their goals and the security just detains them, brings them to jail, releases them and rince repeat. From what I recall, there’s no attempts at roleplay whatsoever. As for Salamander, I think the roleplay status is significantly better and I’d like to help keep it that way. I have seen a few bad actors (or shitters) in Salamander and I want to prevent them from doing bad things so my fellow players can continue to enjoy the server.
Other than banning problematic players, what admin actions do you believe have the biggest positive impact?
Showing the community that the admins are there _for them. _For example replying quickly to Ahelps (or resolving issues quickly) and showing admin presence in the game to assure the players that there is someone to help them, should anything go wrong.
Have you ever had a negative experience in the game or with a game admin? If so what, if anything, would you do to prevent other players from experiencing this?
Yes I’ve had two that I can remember. Not with an admin but in the game.
The first one was in Lizard back when I was just starting out. I was playing Detective and we had orders to arrest a mime who would just run away any chance he got. Eventually he got put in crit by me and one other Security officer (my baton ran out of battery) and we finally got him arrested, we healed him in Medical and brought him to Security to be detained. He apparently had Ahelped me for wrongfully detaining him and putting him in crit. I explained the situation to the responding admin who determined that I acted correctly. Afterwards he (the mime) was very salty and the next round he picked security officer and started to yell on the radio “I CAN DO WHATEVER I WANT BECAUSE I’M SECURITY” It left a very bad taste of the game in my mouth.
The second incident happened on Salamander when I had learned a lot more about the game and was playing Head of Security. I was keeping an eye on a Flesh anomaly and someone came from the side and just gunned me (and everyone in the vicinity) down with a C-20 and immediately left when they were killed. (salt in the wound was that I wasn’t found in time and began to rot, and cloning wasn’t finished in that round I was not revived and had to spectate.) Upon later inspection through replays I noticed that they had literally arrived on arrivals, bought a c20 bundle and started gunning everyone down. However I and the others who were victims of them, reported them to the Admins and we were assured they had been dealt with. So that helped.
I would keep a close eye on people and try to make sure people don’t have the chance to do such things. I am big on trying to prevent problems, before they arise. Within reason of course.
Have you ever had a good experience with the game or a game admin? If so, what was it?
Yes. I’ve had a lot of good experiences However one that stands out was when we were in the Salamander server and we had a Christmas meal. It was back on the old Cluster map and it was lovely. I will attach a picture of it, for you to enjoy too.
The following are scenarios, respond with how you would handle each as an administrator. Respond with the assumption that you are an administrator with full access to the admin tools, and that you have all the knowledge needed to use these tools. Respond in detail, explain the reasons behind decisions you make and describe any assumptions you are making. When you need to make an assumption, it is preferred for you to describe how differences in the assumption would affect your actions.
It is the start of the round. There are 60 players on the server. The game mode is traitors, traitors have not been selected yet. There are three players who decided to observe the round instead of join it orbiting you. Two of them are encouraging you to “do something funny”.
I would tell them that there are too many people on the round for any Admeme-ing to take place, IF I were to do any such things during a round, I would first call a vote in the lobby asking the players if it is okay. Because I have seen people say that ‘abnormalities’ in the game is annoying them, they just wanted to Roleplay.
You see a clown using crayon to write on the floor in front of security. The clown writings are negative things about security, like “shitsec”. A secoff tells the clown that they’re being arrested for vandalism, stuns them, and cuffs them. Before the secoff is able to get the clown into the brig, a passenger slips the secoff, causing them to lose their baton, then uses the baton to stun another secoff that comes to help as the clown runs away. The passenger escapes through disposals. Having heard an AOS radio callout, the detective enters maintenance near disposals and shoots the passenger to crit. There are four players in this scenario, the clown, the passenger, the secoff, and the detective.
Well first off I’d want to make sure that the Passenger was not an antagonist, as then the slipping and stunning would make sense. Assuming that they are not though, I would Ahelp them, ask why they did what they did and explain to them that what they did was wrong as it interferes with people playing the game as it is intended to be played. I would say that a warning would be appropriate for this, if the problematic behaviour continues, I’d move to harsher punishments. As for the clown, as far as I understand running away is not doing anything wrong as the clown. As for the Detective, I’d also Ahelp them and tell them that the callout was ARREST on sight, not kill on sight This of course is assuming that the passenger didn’t attack them first. If they did, then the Detective acted in self defense. However I don’t think a warning would be necessary for the detective. As for the security officers, they did everything correctly.
You and another admin have been adminning for around an hour. The rate of issues has been easily manageable due to having 2 admins. Neither of you have been talking in admin chat. You are using ahelp to warn a player for breaking a rule when the other admin joins the ahelp and confirms that it is against the rules, but that it’s fine in this case and they can ignore the rule for the rest of the round. You haven’t taken any other admin actions yet, such as applying a ban or writing a note.
I would question the newly joined Admin about why it is fine in this case, if it is against the rules. Additionally I’d also ask for advice from other admins, including the one who is currently adminning with me.
