AdmiralObvious

In-game Username: AdmiralObvious
Discord username: AdmiralObvious
Characters you play: Strips-The-Bolts, Monarch Firefly

On average, how many hours do you expect to admin per week: 4

Days you are available to admin on: Tuesdays through Thursdays

How old are you? 27

Do you have any SS14 experience outside of Wizard’s Den servers, or any SS13 experience? No, besides a few sessions on a few SS13 forks that I don’t remember.

Do you have prior administration experience (SS13/SS14 experience preferred, please also post a way for us to verify this)? No Space Station admin experience outside of localhost experiments.

Have you ever been banned from any SS14 or SS13 servers? No

What are you primarily interested in doing as an admin? Dealing with raiders and other bad actors, potentially also hosting events.

Many shifts are irreversably ruined by one raider breaking one or several rules at once. Admin events are also a fun way to shake up rounds.

What are you least interested in doing as an admin? Going back through replays sounds a bit annoying but is an essential part of the adminning process.

Besides that, directly dealing with raiders/rulebreakers in ahelp seems like it’s a big mixed bag.

Detail Questions

What role do you think game admins serve on our servers?

Admins are something of an invisible guiding force to make sure that the server rules are being followed while still allowing for fun and shenanigans to happen. Usually only stepping in in extreme circumstances.

Why do you want to become an administrator for SS14?

I feel like there’s not currently enough admin presence to handle issues as they crop up, and I’d like to volunteer to help ease the workload on the current team.

How do you feel about the current roleplay status on the servers?

Sometimes the roleplay is just awful, severe cases of metagaming for example. A lot of the time people are able to work and talk together and make good stories within the game using the mechanics on offer.

Other than banning problematic players, what admin actions do you believe have the biggest positive impact?

Being able to help a player in Ahelp, or occasionally getting players out of bug induced jams make the players feel like the admins are there to help out.

Have you ever had a negative experience in the game or with a game admin? If so what, if anything, would you do to prevent other players from experiencing this?

Mostly space law breaks which seem to be happening still regardless of which server you’re connected to.

Before the rule changes, LRP servers were particularly bad in my opinion with permabrigging over the slightest thing.

Have you ever had a good experience with the game or a game admin? If so, what was it?

Being rescued by “space wind” after a salvage wreck bugged and despawned with no warning after ahelping is a prominent case in my mind that I also shared on discord.

Scenario Questions

Scenario 1

It is the start of the round. There are 60 players on the server. The game mode is traitors, traitors have not been selected yet. There are three players who decided to observe the round instead of join it orbiting you. Two of them are encouraging you to “do something funny”.

I’d probably ignore them, though the temptation would be there to do something like throw their ghost into a disposals chute. Generally would want to avoid doing anything that would affect the round though.

Scenario 2

This scenario takes place on LRP. The Head of Security has decided to coup the Captain. The Head of Personnel agrees with the Head of Security and has taken up arms in case it is necessary to aid in effecting the arrest of the Captain. The Captain is hiding with the Quartermaster in the cargo shuttle to avoid the Clown who has stolen the captains saber as a non-antag. There are five people named in this scenario. Please describe what actions, if any, you would take in relation to each, and why.

A lot of this seems to depend on further context.

The HoS and HoP may or may not be justified in attempting to coup the captain depending on the past actions of the captain. If there’s no reasonable action that the captain took that warranted a coup, both the HoS and HoP might be in trouble. Adding the captains caveat of hiding on the shuttle with the shuttle implies there may be further justification to the coup. Either this would result in no response or an ahelp for more info from HoS and HoP.

The quartermaster seems to be a neutral party in this following the captain. No action would be taken.

The clown may be self antagging, but it also depends on what they’re doing with the saber. If the sword is being used to attack others, they may be ahelped, otherwise taking the sword might be an IC issue?

The captain abandoning the station on the shuttle is an issue however and should be spoken to.

Scenario 3

You are ahelping a player about an issue. The player has no prior noted issues. A few days earlier, an admin had told you that this type of situation should result in a temporary ban for a first offense, and you are confident that this situation is not substantially different from the type that admin was describing. During the ahelp, another admin pings you on Discord with a link to the ongoing ahelp and tells you to just indefinitely ban them and make them appeal. Excluding trialmins and headmins, all admins are equally “ranked”. A headmin is not currently available.

I believe there’s a document which has the ban/warning guidelines that can be referenced? I personally would bias to the lesser ban duration in this case, but would enquire more with the other admin before enacting said ban.

Application accepted, please check your discord for instructions on how to proceed. Good luck during your trial period and welcome to the admin team!
