Always quite high ping, question on how to fix and VPNs

Details

Really sorry if this is a wrong place to ask for these things, but not quite sure where else to get trustable information when it comes to VPNs and other things like that.

So I have noticed that my ping always stays at a minimum of 180. Now I got no idea why is that. Is it because I’m connecting from eastern Europe or is that the server set ping. This high ping makes it almost impossible for me to be the first to grab someone and to have any kind of good combat.

Now is there anyway to fix this if its actually fixable? Would a VPN fix it? And would a VPN be possible to setup if needed, I know I have some kind of exception or something that I got a year ago, I’m not sure what it did nor how it works, I just know I have it.

Again, really sorry if this is the wrong place to ask this, thank you.

All our servers are currently in the US. This may be the cause of your ping.

While VPNs can in some cases reduce latency, this is highly inconsistent.

We currently prohibit the use of VPNs on Wizard’s Den Servers except where it is necessary. You were previously given an exemption because you were caught in an abuse of range ban. This exemption still exists so you would be able to use a vpn although it is no longer necessary.

Since we already granted you an exemption you might as well try, but it’s unlikely that a vpn will help you much.

I will be moving this to Help in case others have something to add.

Nik is right here, in 99% of the time VPNs do not help and in fact may just add MORE latency. (Imagine having a jug of water and a glass cup, it is faster to pour water directly into the final glass then filling up another jug and then filling up the glass cup)

However, there is a small chance it will also help due to the fact that your internet provider’s routing (Routing is the process of finding out what the best physical path for connecting from one computer to another.)

As for recommended vpn’s to try… perhaps Cloudflare Warp (1.1.1.1) or ProtonVPN as it’s probably the only free VPN’s I would trust.
