How old are you? 19
Do you have any SS14 experience outside of Wizard’s Den servers, or any SS13 experience? Unfortunately, I do not have any experience beyond Wizard’s Den servers.
Do you have prior administration experience (SS13/SS14 experience preferred, please also post a way for us to verify this)? I was an administrator on the SWRP server in Garry’s Mod. Unfortunately, the server has now closed down, so I have no tangible way to prove my role other than some very old screenshots and my Discord roles from that server. My experience includes hosting events for approximately 20 to 30 players, which ranged from base attacks to operations aimed at liberating a city. Additionally, I was involved in moderation duties, primarily resolving player issues and issuing warnings or bans when necessary.
Have you ever been banned from any SS14 or SS13 servers? I have never been banned from any SS14 or SS13 server.
What are you primarily interested in doing as an admin? I am primarily interested in organizing events because during my 500 hours of playtime, I have only experienced three admin events, and I had a great time. I want to share that experience with other users.
Additionally, I am interested in enforcing in-game rules. I’ve noticed that there are often no admins available to assist players, and I would like to change that. Lastly, I am also keen on enforcing out-of-game rules; I enjoy investigating what happened and why certain events occurred.
What are you least interested in doing as an admin? I find it quite challenging to handle appeals because I typically do not believe that people can change. As a result, I dislike having conversations with offenders, as it is often difficult for me to determine whether they are genuinely remorseful for their actions or merely trying to flatter me in hopes of getting unbanned. Additionally, I have a strong aversion to administrative duties, such as writing documentation or maintaining long lists of logs.
Detail Questions
What role do you think game admins serve on our servers?
The primary duty of admins is to enforce the rules, ensuring that everyone adheres to them. In addition, they act as peacekeepers within the community, working to resolve disputes between players. Lastly, admins are responsible for ensuring that players have a good time, which can involve facilitating enjoyable role-playing experiences or assisting players with questions about game mechanics.
Why do you want to become an administrator for SS14?
I have noticed a significant lack of administrators during the times I play, particularly in the CET timezone. Due to this observation and my growing enthusiasm for the game, I have set a goal to become an administrator and unlock all available content. Additionally, I aspire to host events for other players and help resolve their issues using the knowledge I have gained while playing. I want to give back to the community that has shown me the ropes, and I wish to pass on that knowledge to others.
How do you feel about the current roleplay status on the servers?
I believe it’s fine, though I have some reservations about Lizard. When I played it before getting my whitelist, it was mostly a headache to play as security since many people chose to be disruptive and annoy security as best they were able to. However, there were moments of roleplay that shone through. Whether it was sneaking up on others in maintenance or simply working together to achieve a goal, such as completing all the research, those moments made it worthwhile.
Other than banning problematic players, what admin actions do you believe have the biggest positive impact?
Events and interactions with players, whether through fax or Central Command announcements, have a very positive impact, in my opinion. Another positive aspect is simply helping players in situations where they need assistance.
Have you ever had a negative experience in the game or with a game admin? If so what, if anything, would you do to prevent other players from experiencing this?
Although I have had negative experiences, such as encounters with raiders, my most recent experience was playing as the captain during a nukie round. We successfully escaped, but immediately after the round ended, one of the players called me an “asshole” for not handing over a digital board to the nukies in exchange for a CT’s life. I have never had any bad experiences with game admins, so I cannot comment on that aspect.
To prevent situations like the first one, a simple solution would be to have an admin monitor what is happening in the game. To address the second situation, it would help to allow players to discuss the issue with each other and share their perspectives. However, extending the start round time could be a double-edged sword, as it may lengthen the duration till the next round.
Have you ever had a good experience with the game or a game admin? If so, what was it?
Yes, there have been multiple occasions. The first was when I started playing; I was learning from other players, which was a great experience. The second was during the captain round when our contracts were terminated due to multiple requests for Moth crates. Lastly, I enjoyed seeing the same players, saying hi to them, and sharing stories about previous rounds.
Scenario Questions
Scenario 1
It is the start of the round. There are 60 players on the server. The game mode is traitors, traitors have not been selected yet. There are three players who decided to observe the round instead of join it orbiting you. Two of them are encouraging you to “do something funny”.
Just let them know that I’m not going to do anything “funny” since the round has already started. If I wanted to do something funny, I would first check if the other players are interested in an admeme round. However, I will still likely respond to certain things, such as prayers or faxes from Central Command in a minor way.
Scenario 2
This scenario takes place on LRP. The Head of Security has decided to coup the Captain. The Head of Personnel agrees with the Head of Security and has taken up arms in case it is necessary to aid in effecting the arrest of the Captain. The Captain is hiding with the Quartermaster in the cargo shuttle to avoid the Clown who has stolen the captains saber as a non-antag. There are five people named in this scenario. Please describe what actions, if any, you would take in relation to each, and why.
I need more details about what is happening.
The Head of Security needs more than just the Head of Personnel to agree before they can legally remove the cap. I would also ask them why the coup is happening in the first place.
The clown stealing the captain’s saber might not be as problematic as long as he isn’t using it to harm anyone. However, I would still advise him that pranks should not involve stealing items to the extent that the captain feels the need to hide from him.
The captain should be asked if he is aware of what is happening regarding the coup and his saber. If the captain is in the right, I should roleplay this situation by making announcements and instructing the Head of Personnel and Head of Security to stand down, assuming that the captain hasn’t done anything wrong.
Scenario 3
You are ahelping a player about an issue. The player has no prior noted issues. A few days earlier, an admin had told you that this type of situation should result in a temporary ban for a first offense, and you are confident that this situation is not substantially different from the type that admin was describing. During the ahelp, another admin pings you on Discord with a link to the ongoing ahelp and tells you to just indefinitely ban them and make them appeal. Excluding trialmins and headmins, all admins are equally “ranked”. A headmin is not currently available.
I plan to talk with the second admin about the information I received earlier. In my opinion, an indefinite ban seems excessively harsh for a first-time offense; however, this largely depends on the nature of the offense and its impact on the players and the overall round. I would like to discuss this matter with other available admins before making a decision, as it’s always better to gather more opinions first. If I’m unable to do that, I would compromise with the other admin to issue a shorter ban. This would allow me to consult with a head admin for their guidance on the situation. I will also ensure the other admin is informed about the ruling for future reference.
