On average, how many hours do you expect to admin per week: 100+
Days you are available to admin on: Any
How old are you? 21
Do you have any SS14 experience outside of Wizard’s Den servers, or any SS13 experience? None, only Wizard’s Den servers.
Do you have prior administration experience (SS13/SS14 experience preferred, please also post a way for us to verify this)? No prior experience.
Have you ever been banned from any SS14 or SS13 servers? No prior bans.
What are you primarily interested in doing as an admin? I am primarily invested in in-game events and rule enforcement as I frequently see a lot happening on Salamander and Vulture but am awake during the windows where admins are potentially unavailable to help.
What are you least interested in doing as an admin? Honestly, not much comes to mind for this. I’m willing to do what is needed.
Detail Questions
What role do you think game admins serve on our servers?
Ensuring proper conduct, rule enforcement, as well as watching replays when necessary and gauging the appropriate way to handle situations. From what I have witnessed admins exist to ensure the peace is kept and roleplay is enjoyable and done correctly for all involved.
Why do you want to become an administrator for SS14?
I want to ensure all participants have a fun and fair time as well as de-escalating situations where possible. It is in my interest to see to it that people are well informed on the rules for the game and roleplay as I have seen too much incompetence in my time of playing. I would also love to help run fun events that would keep players entertained and ensure full enjoyment of what SS14 has to offer.
How do you feel about the current roleplay status on the servers?
Lizard and Leviathan are not really on my radar as I barely touch them nowadays, all I know is they can be a mess consistently. Vulture lately has been subpar and full of excessive self-antags as well as consistently uninformed players (or players who refuse to read the rules) resulting in poor quality roleplay. Salamander is a mixed bag, some days it can be perfect and others it can be an absolute mess. While the RP quality is usually high there are major times where it degrades due to newer players or players who have not bothered to read up on MRP rules resulting in misconduct in terms of both game and RP rules. It’s rather bothersome to see it as frequently as I do.
Other than banning problematic players, what admin actions do you believe have the biggest positive impact?
I believe de-escalation and talking things out help majorly, along with the idea of informing where needed to help lessen the need for outright bans. But I also understand that sometimes it is needed to be firm to get the message through that their behavior is distasteful or otherwise problematic.
Have you ever had a negative experience in the game or with a game admin? If so what, if anything, would you do to prevent other players from experiencing this?
Plenty, too many to list. A lot of it tends to be discrimination or overall incompetency. In terms of discrimination I would do what I can to make it clear that their behavior is not okay in any right and try to do what is possible to steer them away from that behavior before needing to take further action. Incompetency would be addressed with a CC inspection if needed or overseen as an admin and judging their performance and behavior to deem if they are fit to play the roles or not.
Have you ever had a good experience with the game or a game admin? If so, what was it?
During my time in vulture a lot of my best experiences were events and admemes but overall I try to make every experience a good experience no matter what. As much as I would list one event there is too many but, my favorite of all had to be encountering Xenoborgs.
Scenario Questions
Scenario 1
It is the start of the round. There are 60 players on the server. The game mode is traitors, traitors have not been selected yet. There are three players who decided to observe the round instead of join it orbiting you. Two of them are encouraging you to “do something funny”.
I would not give into this as there was no event planned or mentioned for this. If there was further approval for “something funny” then I would discuss with other admins what would be appropriate and non-disruptive for the round to ensure the round continues as intended. Overall it would be only done after proper consideration and consulting and if there is nobody to consult about this then there would be nothing done and the round would continue as normal.
Scenario 2
This scenario takes place on LRP. The Head of Security has decided to coup the Captain. The Head of Personnel agrees with the Head of Security and has taken up arms in case it is necessary to aid in effecting the arrest of the Captain. The Captain is hiding with the Quartermaster in the cargo shuttle to avoid the Clown who has stolen the captains saber as a non-antag. There are five people named in this scenario. Please describe what actions, if any, you would take in relation to each, and why.
HoS + HoP - I would first begin by reviewing what events had led up to the idea of a coup and if this was necessary in the first place. If extreme incompetency was noted on the captains part no action would be taken, however if this was done out of malice it would need to be reviewed further and taken into consideration how to address the situation. The situation would most likely be met with a warning if deemed to be incorrectly performed.
Captain - While hiding on the shuttle to avoid the clown is not entirely wrong, it’s not right either as the clown has the means to arrest and detain the clown. As for if this deserves any sort of action taken is up in the air. Action would only be taken if the first portion lined up with proof of incompetency.
Clown - Self-antagging will be addressed properly according to the severity of the situation. If the clown is simply holding the saber and doing nothing else then it would be considered very minor and met with a light warning. However if the self-antagging goes further into rule breaking problem wise it would be met accordingly with proper punishment.
Scenario 3
You are ahelping a player about an issue. The player has no prior noted issues. A few days earlier, an admin had told you that this type of situation should result in a temporary ban for a first offense, and you are confident that this situation is not substantially different from the type that admin was describing. During the ahelp, another admin pings you on Discord with a link to the ongoing ahelp and tells you to just indefinitely ban them and make them appeal. Excluding trialmins and headmins, all admins are equally “ranked”. A headmin is not currently available.
I would consider the issue in full and consult any guidelines that may help to clarify the proper actions needing to be taken. There is no reason to immediately jump to conclusions as this would result in poor conduct. Depending on the severity of the issue I would consult admins that have proper experience with this situation and get multiple inputs on how to address the situation. If nothing else can be done to find a proper answer on how to handle the situation, I would wait until I can consult a headmin about the situation as I do not want to be brash.
