On average, how many hours do you expect to admin per week: I work 4 days a week as a pharmacist so depending on the week I would say around 25-30 hours.
Days you are available to admin on: Sunday-Saturday. The days that I am available would vary as I have a rotating work schedule.
How old are you? 27
Do you have any SS14 experience outside of Wizard’s Den servers, or any SS13 experience? I do not have any SS14 or SS13 experience, however, I have a long history of playing on roleplay servers for GTA:SA and GTA 5 (rootgaming, valhallagaming, and Eclipse RP to name a few).
Do you have prior administration experience (SS13/SS14 experience preferred, please also post a way for us to verify this)? I do not have any administration experience for SS13/SS14, however, I was an administrator on the rootgaming server for GTA:SA
Have you ever been banned from any SS14 or SS13 servers? I have never been banned.
Admins have the ability to perform various tasks which are not available to the average player. An incomplete list of these tasks is: in-game rule enforcement, in-game events, ban appeals, and out-of-game rule enforcement through things like replay/log reviews in response to player reports. With these, and any other tasks you’re aware of in mind, answer the following two questions.
What are you primarily interested in doing as an admin? I am primarily interested in 3 things as an administrator: improving the overall roleplay of the servers, assisting the developers in fixing glitches or bugs, and creating creative in-game events that fascinate the players involved. I am also interested in working as a team with the other administrators to make the servers improve and becoming a better place for everyone playing. I believe that communication is essential as a member of the team, and having good communication is essential to solving a problem or reaching a specific range of goals.
What are you least interested in doing as an admin? There is nothing specific that comes to mind that I would be least interested in doing as an administrator. One thing that is always hard as an administrator to do is laying down the ban hammer on players who are breaking the rules. You hate to ban a player when rules are broken but as an administrator it is your responsibility to do so when justified.
_ Answer the following questions in detail, so we can get a better idea of how you’d approach adminning. _
What role do you think game admins serve on our servers?
Administrators on the servers act as individuals who are tasked with the responsibility of ensuring that the match flows and operates smoothly without any issues. They are individuals who help players in need as well as act as problem-solvers for issues that arise on the spot. They monitor the match to ensure that no rules are broken and that everyone is adhering to the rules. They also ensure that the matches are enjoyable and are able to use their creativity to produce an even more enjoyable environment for everyone playing.
Why do you want to become an administrator for SS14?
I want to become an administrator so that I can donate my time and skills to helping this game become better. This one of the most fun games I have ever played online - very addicting indeed. I want to eventually become a part of development and help push this game towards its goals. I want to be a part of something great and be able to say that I helped it to reach where it will eventually be. I also want to give back to the community that I enjoy and be able to have a positive impact on all players playing on the servers.
How do you feel about the current roleplay status on the servers?
LRP: I believe the level of roleplay on the LRP servers is unsatisfactory compared to the whitelisted MRP server. This is understandable as a majority of the individuals playing these servers are new and some have never roleplayed in their lives. I could say we can make the roleplay on these servers better by potentially teaching some of the newbies how to roleplay in the first place as administrators. In addition, we could create a roleplay guide to point them in the right direction.
MRP: The level of roleplay on our MRP servers is adequate for it to be called an MRP server in my opinion. For the most part, players maintain their roles and do not stay out of character. They are well versed in their roles and how to play their roles. I believe the way to improve roleplay is to start encouraging played to use /me commands for more fluid and text-like roleplay. One suggestion would be to add a /do command that GTA 5 roleplay servers have to encourage better roleplay:
/me extends his right arm towards the man, encouraging him to shake it
/do does he shake *player’s* hand?
These are small things that can even improve the server’s roleplay drastically, if more individuals participated in text based actions.
Other than banning problematic players, what admin actions do you believe have the biggest positive impact?
The most positive impact that an administrator can have is helping players. A player that can easily access an administrator for help or information goes a long way in terms of a community’s reputation. Administrators helping new players or even older players with questions is the backbone of what an administrator is. Other actions that I believe could have a positive impact is creativity during matches. Players that get to experience new events or simulations that administrators are able to think of and put into play will definitely come back to the servers potentially with their friends wanting more of that experience.
Have you ever had a negative experience in the game or with a game admin? If so what, if anything, would you do to prevent other players from experiencing this?
I have never had a bad experience with an admin.
Have you ever had a good experience with the game or a game admin? If so, what was it?
I haven’t had much experience with administrators but the experiences that that impressed me the most is when I ask a question in admin chat - and boy did I ask a lot of questions when I was first starting out playing this game. Compared to the other roleplay servers that I’ve played in; the administrators here reply almost right away. This really show to me that this server and its administrators are actively trying to help out new players.
The following are scenarios, respond with how you would handle each as an administrator. Respond with the assumption that you are an administrator with full access to the admin tools, and that you have all the knowledge needed to use these tools. Respond in detail, explain the reasons behind decisions you make and describe any assumptions you are making. When you need to make an assumption, it is preferred for you to describe how differences in the assumption would affect your actions.
It is the start of the round. There are 60 players on the server. The game mode is traitors, traitors have not been selected yet. There are three players who decided to observe the round instead of join it orbiting you. Two of them are encouraging you to “do something funny”.
I would not respond to them. There’s 60 players on the server and the game has just been started. There’s no need for me to do anything at that point in time as the match is fresh and I would rather watch how it all unravels before doing something unnecessary.
You see a clown using crayon to write on the floor in front of security. The clown writings are negative things about security, like “shitsec”. A secoff tells the clown that they’re being arrested for vandalism, stuns them, and cuffs them. Before the secoff is able to get the clown into the brig, a passenger slips the secoff, causing them to lose their baton, then uses the baton to stun another secoff that comes to help as the clown runs away. The passenger escapes through disposals. Having heard an AOS radio callout, the detective enters maintenance near disposals and shoots the passenger to crit. There are four players in this scenario, the clown, the passenger, the secoff, and the detective.
I would check to see if the passenger that was involved was an antagonist or not. If not - I would message the passenger and ask them why they did that if they were not an antagonist. Using ahelp, I would them warn them and say that this behavior (self-antag) should not have been done because the character was not an antagonist. I would then ask them if they had any questions regarding this because they could potentially be new and not understand the rules. After the detective CRIT’s the passenger, I would message them and ask them under what justification did they CRIT the passenger. I would explain to them that the passenger did not pose a significant threat and that escalation of a lethal weapon would be unnecessary. I would explain to them that they should have listened to the AOS callout and arrested the passenger instead of lethally wounding them. I would then ask them if they had any questions regarding this. I would monitor the situation with the clown to ensure that they had a smooth transition in and out of jail.
You and another admin have been adminning for around an hour. The rate of issues has been easily manageable due to having 2 admins. Neither of you have been talking in admin chat. You are using ahelp to warn a player for breaking a rule when the other admin joins the ahelp and confirms that it is against the rules, but that it’s fine in this case and they can ignore the rule for the rest of the round. You haven’t taken any other admin actions yet, such as applying a ban or writing a note.
I would ask the other admin why we would be ignoring the rule being broken. I would then make a case with the other admin that if we ignore this rule-break now - this player would think that it is alright to break this rule in the future without any consequence. I would then bring up the possibly that maybe this player is unaware of this rule and this would be a good teaching experience for the player. I would then warn the player stating that the action they are taking is against the rules and that they shouldn’t be doing it.
