Recently I’ve been working on transferring some ingame mechanics away off SS13 into the SS14, but faced a strong challenge in face of different coding languages. I infact wonder, if there any utility made that helps you optimize and even maybe transfer code into the C# format away off these DreamMaker weird-ahh structures.
Its not possible, the engines and the language are different. Assets like sounds and sprites can be carried over, as well as game design, but the code has to be rewritten
Aight, thanks for the answer!
Uh actually, what you ask about IS possible in a way, you might be interested in OpenDream. It’s a project to build a compatibility layer between Robust Engine (that Space Station 14 runs on) and the old ss13 source code, so that you could essentially run the old game on the new engine and use the space station 14 hub infra. (I was thinking about your question merely in the context of “can pieces of the source code be used”)
But it’s a separate development project and I don’t know much about how it’s going. I know they have playable prototypes of tgstation and goon that mostly work. You can find them on the SS14 hub if you search for “opendream”, though there is typically no one on them
