DATBRODOE

In-game Username: DATBRODOE
Discord username: Datbrodoe
Characters you play: Gerald Raymond

On average, how many hours do you expect to admin per week: 4 to 8

Days you are available to admin on: Thursdays and Fridays. All other days of the week I will likely be on occasionally, however, most likely after midnight to 2am Mountain Standard time.

How old are you? 24

Do you have any SS14 experience outside of Wizard’s Den servers, or any SS13 experience? I do not have any notable experience with SS14 outside of Wizard’s Den servers, however, I am whitelisted and occasionally join Tex’s, “The Black Pants Legion Server” as well as Liltenhead’s, “Harmony Server”, Fronteer, and Ronny’s Space Marines.

Do you have prior administration experience (SS13/SS14 experience preferred, please also post a way for us to verify this)? I do not. All of my experience is from real management positions and Pharmacy. We can discuss this later to provide sufficient background information should it be critical and desired.

Have you ever been banned from any SS14 or SS13 servers? I was banned from Starlight’s server for 15ish minutes due to a misunderstanding of which I have evidence to prove this to be true and unwarranted. I was refueling my torch while helping Chaplin Remodel and I was preemptively banned because they didn’t want to risk me welder bombing. Documentation and evidence to support this as fact is available pertinent to request.

What are you primarily interested in doing as an admin? I am primarily interested in participating in Admin Team operated and planned in-game events and learning how balancing works firsthand relatedly. Learning how to handle situations that lack a clear in-character solution and/or helping characters find in-character solutions to issues that lack the escalation qualifications I plan on learning.

What are you least interested in doing as an admin? I am least interested in making bad judgement calls in regard to in-game rule enforcement, however, out of game rule enforcement will likely lead towards better conclusions to my own mistakes. I lack the experience to know definitively what doesn’t interest me, although, I’m sure this team will lead me to become resilient to these yet unknown misfortunes.

Detail Questions

What role do you think game admins serve on our servers?

Admins role is to caretake for the best interests of the player base, defending their experience through the use of tools which could be misused if admins do not hold themselves accountable to the highest standards we can judge ourselves upon. I believe the best case scenario for an admin is for everything to go so well that their influence is less than that of an inept observer.

Why do you want to become an administrator for SS14?

I want to exceed my overall knowledge of this game and help as many people as possible experience the joy it has given me.

How do you feel about the current roleplay status on the servers?

I believe that current roleplay status opinions are wildly subjective. Each of Wizden’s servers vary in culture and experiences almost as widely as every branch of its forks. I believe that this should be protected and nurtured at all costs. My experience is that not even categorizations such as “lrp” and “mrp” truly give just description to the variety available and present here. Proper pruning and developing of this amazing game are equally important to its future success and clearly its current success as well.

Other than banning problematic players, what admin actions do you believe have the biggest positive impact?

I believe the biggest positive impact admins actions can have, assuming that they do pursue actions, is when two or more admins are present, during a well rule abiding shift, and they work together to create a truly unique and player inclusive heavy event.

Have you ever had a negative experience in the game or with a game admin? If so what, if anything, would you do to prevent other players from experiencing this?

Any and all negative experiences I have had in this game or with an admin have been proven to be misunderstandings and were easily resolved.

Have you ever had a good experience with the game or a game admin? If so, what was it?

A great example of this is a couple months ago, as Captain I ahelped admin asking for the giant asteroid that contains a dungeon to be spawned near the ship. I lead the crew on a short expedition that didn’t go as planned. I roleplayed this by faxing Centcom with updates.

Scenario Questions

Scenario 1

It is the start of the round. There are 60 players on the server. The game mode is traitors, traitors have not been selected yet. There are three players who decided to observe the round instead of join it orbiting you. Two of them are encouraging you to “do something funny”.

Assuming that I was present to see the previous rounds were positively responded too in OOC after the rounds, I would consider their request and keep it in mind as I observed the round to see what occurs that may warrant some funny admin activities.
Assuming that I had no knowledge of how the players have been experiencing the unaltered shifts, I would do the same.
Assuming that I was present to see the previous rounds were negatively responded too in OOC after the rounds, I would consider and plan a fun activity to pursue and hold a vote to see if the characters would be interested in an impromptu or planned activity or not and respect their vote.
Assuming that there were other admins than myself, in all scenarios I would consult my fellow admins on this request and convey my thoughts as well.

Scenario 2

This scenario takes place on LRP. The Head of Security has decided to coup the Captain. The Head of Personnel agrees with the Head of Security and has taken up arms in case it is necessary to aid in effecting the arrest of the Captain. The Captain is hiding with the Quartermaster in the cargo shuttle to avoid the Clown who has stolen the captains saber as a non-antag. There are five people named in this scenario. Please describe what actions, if any, you would take in relation to each, and why.

My first step would be to acquire information about each person named in the scenario and comparing the literal interpretation of the rules and the server culture specific to this LRP server. If no rules have been broken that supersede in-character limits, everything has reasonable in-character escalations/ motives, and I haven’t been requested to aid via an ahelp, a fax sent to centcom, and/or other means, then I would do nothing but observe and continuously review the evidence that brought me to these beliefs. If there is reasonable in-character reasoning for me to take on a role of which requires extremely high standards and no account is available or qualified to take on a playable role I would create to accommodate this, then I might take on an admin ghost role to assist. However, there are many variables I have yet to learn about.

Scenario 3

You are ahelping a player about an issue. The player has no prior noted issues. A few days earlier, an admin had told you that this type of situation should result in a temporary ban for a first offense, and you are confident that this situation is not substantially different from the type that admin was describing. During the ahelp, another admin pings you on Discord with a link to the ongoing ahelp and tells you to just indefinitely ban them and make them appeal. Excluding trialmins and headmins, all admins are equally “ranked”. A headmin is not currently available.

Verbiage of this scenario leads me to believe that I am an admin and not a trialmin or headmin in this specific, therefore, I believe that the most anyone of equal “rank’s” opinions/beliefs/judgments should every influence a decision is that of inspiration and advice. I would consider the issue to its fullest, including but not limited to others inputs, and make a decision regarding this situation that I not only believe is best but can also defend strongly. My decisions are my own alone, what/who may lead to my decisions hold no responsibility for my judgements once made by me. Furthermore, even though obviously excluded from this scenario, I believe I should know why I am ordered or told to do something from my bosses. If my boss tells me to do something I refuse to do I will resign. I don’t have to agree with the reasoning in order to do what I’m told but being told, “because I say so” without any chance of explanation at a more convenient time is something I will not participate in. The “just cause” logical fallacy, among many other logical fallacies and heretics, should be considered in all directives/commands/actions/reactions…etc…
