DEBIAN 12

Hello everyone, a week ago I installed the official ss14 launcher and when I start the server (the splash screen goes) and it crashes after loading (it’s clear that it’s a zip!? I downloaded the deb)
And on steam it just the tab just hangs along with the computer
Let me explain, my system is
Debian GNU/Linux 12 (bookworm) GNOME 43.9

First, make sure you installed the following dependencies installed on your system:

sudo apt install libopenal1 libfreetype6 (I believe I got these right, but you may search for these yourself on apt if that’s not what the packages are named on your Debian version)

If you are still having issues, please either collect logs to review for errors (You may send them privately to me on forum DM’s or on Discord. Or if you are comfortable reviewing the logs and posting the error output without any sensitive information, this will work too.)

Another option I suggest is giving the flatpak version a try.

1.sudo apt install libopenal1 libfreetype6
[sudo] password for a:

Reading package lists… Done
Building dependency tree… Done
Reading state information… Done
The latest libopenal1 package (1:1.19.1-2) is already installed.
libopenal1 is marked as manually installed.
The latest libfreetype6 package (2.12.1+dfsg-5+deb12u3) is already installed.
libfreetype6 is marked as manually installed.
0 packages have been updated, 0 packages have been installed, 0 packages have been marked for removal, and 0 packages have not been updated.
2.the system crashes after the logs produce the required text.

  1. I downloaded the flatpack version but I don’t see where the ss14 application itself is?

If you install it through Flatpak, it should just be accessible from GNOME’s application launcher or whatever.

No, I downloaded the necessary files, then rebooted the system… now I’m waiting forever for the server content to load…

in short, everything freezes, complete crap, like with the situation with Windows 7
