What are you primarily interested in doing as an admin? Enforcing rules both in and out of game, and responding to player reports.
What are you least interested in doing as an admin? In game events, mostly because I doubt I would be capable of running them.
Detail Questions
What role do you think game admins serve on our servers?
To enforce rules with the intent of making the game more fun to those who are playing it and stop troublemakers from destroying that enjoyment.
Why do you want to become an administrator for SS14?
There is a lack of active admins (In my time zone atleast) and in the recent rewrite I heard a few rules got erased because of this lack of admins, I hope to help compensate for that and be there to respond to Ahelps in my timezone.
How do you feel about the current roleplay status on the servers?
It’s abysmal on the highpop servers such as Levi/Lizard but other servers like grasshopper (raiders aside), vulture and salamander have an enjoyable amount of RP in them.
Other than banning problematic players, what admin actions do you believe have the biggest positive impact?
I think running admin events, responding to people IC as centcom or responding to prayers is fun, and letting people off with warnings if they are unaware of a rule is more likely to have a positive impact on players involved than not. I also think responding to Ahelps verbally (when something has been dealt with without revealing in round info) helps a ton with player clarity and trust in admins.
Have you ever had a negative experience in the game or with a game admin? If so what, if anything, would you do to prevent other players from experiencing this?
Directly, no, however I have had experiences where I feel some punishments given to other players were too short despite how those players were clearly putting player enjoyment behind their own goal to ‘win’ including people in roles held to higher standards like security or command.
Have you ever had a good experience with the game or a game admin? If so, what was it?
Yes, all my interactions with admins have been polite and resolved without friction, otherwise, nothing in particular stands out outside of server-wide admeme events.
Scenario Questions
Scenario 1
It is the start of the round. There are 60 players on the server. The game mode is traitors, traitors have not been selected yet. There are three players who decided to observe the round instead of join it orbiting you. Two of them are encouraging you to “do something funny”.
I would either turn invisible and continue to observe the round and not interact with the orbiting ghosts in most cases as to not disrupt the round, or I would do something minor If I feel would make the round more enjoyable, such as responding to some prayers, CC faxes, or spawning a random wand in maintenance (whilst also observing it to make sure nobody breaks any rules with it)
Scenario 2
This scenario takes place on LRP. The Head of Security has decided to coup the Captain. The Head of Personnel agrees with the Head of Security and has taken up arms in case it is necessary to aid in effecting the arrest of the Captain. The Captain is hiding with the Quartermaster in the cargo shuttle to avoid the Clown who has stolen the captains saber as a non-antag. There are five people named in this scenario. Please describe what actions, if any, you would take in relation to each, and why.
Firstly I would inspect the clown to see if there’s a reason why they stole the Saber and punish them accordingly, I would then observe and investigate as to if there’s a reason there is a coup against the captain, if the captain is grossly incompetent I may temporarily roleban them or roleban them with an appeal after the round, if the HoS and HoP do it without a good reason I would question them about it, hold them accountable and punish them appropriately. I don’t believe the QM is in any wrong here unless he contributed to the prior events.
Scenario 3
You are ahelping a player about an issue. The player has no prior noted issues. A few days earlier, an admin had told you that this type of situation should result in a temporary ban for a first offense, and you are confident that this situation is not substantially different from the type that admin was describing. During the ahelp, another admin pings you on Discord with a link to the ongoing ahelp and tells you to just indefinitely ban them and make them appeal. Excluding trialmins and headmins, all admins are equally “ranked”. A headmin is not currently available.
I would temporarily ban them as it’s more lenient for a first offence and for someone with a clear record, as well as being advised to by another admin beforehand. I would tell my reasoning to the admin that sent me the link and then possibly extend their ban after I have talked to a headmin about the ban.
