On average, how many hours do you expect to admin per week: 3.5-7

Days you are available to admin on: Every day

How old are you? 20

Do you have any SS14 experience outside of Wizard’s Den servers, or any SS13 experience? I had minor experience on SS13 a long time ago

Do you have prior administration experience (SS13/SS14 experience preferred, please also post a way for us to verify this)? No anime experience on SS14

Have you ever been banned from any SS14 or SS13 servers? No prior role bans or game bans

What are you primarily interested in doing as an admin? Generally help across the board. I’m a major rules nerd, and am always reading admin questions to have the most up to date answers on things, so I’d love to be able to help out and make sure all peoples admin questions can get answered. I’d also like to moderate games, to help ensure that things are running smoothly, especially since nowadays raiders are becoming more common. I’d also love to help with ban appeal applications, as sometimes for fun I end up finding myself scrolling through and reading the applications.

What are you least interested in doing as an admin? Like I’d say game events. They are very unique things, but when done poorly they end up just ruining a round potentially, but when done right they will end up being the most fun experience that people will remember forever. There’s a bit of anxiety as such to make sure that an event doesn’t flop, but also isn’t a push over.

Detail Questions

What role do you think game admins serve on our servers?

The role of the admins is to make sure the game is fun and enjoyable for everyone. Without admins to ban people, admins to ensure rules are being followed, admins to have the events, admins to handle the appeals, and ensure everyone can enjoy their experience.

Why do you want to become an administrator for SS14?

I absolutely love this game, and want to continue to see it continue to thrive

How do you feel about the current roleplay status on the servers?

Roleplay status from my experience is in a good state, I mainly play on salamander though, which is a bit of a unfair perspective for the other servers

Other than banning problematic players, what admin actions do you believe have the biggest positive impact?

I think the most positive aspect is being on hand for ahelps. When people have a rules question they need specified, or something they need looked into. This directly enhances the experience of players in game as they play, which arguably is the most important thing.

Have you ever had a negative experience in the game or with a game admin? If so what, if anything, would you do to prevent other players from experiencing this?

Only issue I’ve had in game would be dealing with self antagging. Nothing other than having an admin on hand to deal with the ahelp, and punish after, could change that.

Have you ever had a good experience with the game or a game admin? If so, what was it?

Almost all of my experience with the game has been good. One of my favourite interactions with a game admin was putting in a fax to CentComm as captain for aid during Zeds one time and having a CBRN team show up, it was a lot of fun to see them notice my little written report and send aid.

Scenario Questions

Scenario 1

It is the start of the round. There are 60 players on the server. The game mode is traitors, traitors have not been selected yet. There are three players who decided to observe the round instead of join it orbiting you. Two of them are encouraging you to “do something funny”.

More than likely, I’d ignore them. Requests for ‘something funny’ generally shouldn’t be happening, and ‘something funny’ should only be happening if it’s right. Now, traitors is one of the best game modes for something funny on. Assuming that the past few shifts have been dry, and all departments are evenly crewed (for example you don’t want to do something ‘funny’ when there is only one engineer are aboard and the station will likely struggle to stay powered), then I would likely put out the good old vote to see if people want the funny or not.

Scenario 2

This scenario takes place on LRP. The Head of Security has decided to coup the Captain. The Head of Personnel agrees with the Head of Security and has taken up arms in case it is necessary to aid in effecting the arrest of the Captain. The Captain is hiding with the Quartermaster in the cargo shuttle to avoid the Clown who has stolen the captains saber as a non-antag. There are five people named in this scenario. Please describe what actions, if any, you would take in relation to each, and why.

The head of security should not be couping the captain unless they have the full support of command, and they have a proper reason to coup them. Some investigation is likely needed into the HOS, and if nothing good that explains it comes up, questioning them. Same goes with the HOP, the HOP is supposed to be the captains second in command, and shouldn’t be turning against them unless there is super valid reason. Even then though, the HOP should not be arming up. Ultimately it is up to the HOS to arrest the captain, and not the HOP, who should be leading the services department and helping with IDs.
Now, the captain and the QM. The captain shouldn’t be hiding on a cargo shuttle in the first place. They have a responsibility to the station, and no matter what the game mode is, the captain is likely a target. If they are out hiding on the shuttle the whole time, it is ruining the game experience for others, and abandoning their role as a captain. Same goes with the quartermaster, whose job should not be private shuttle pilot for the captain. I’d likely let both of them know that their current way of handling things is rather inappropriate.
Then, the clown. How he is handled is likely very dependent on how he stole this sword. If the captain was open carrying for no reason running around with a blade, and the clown banana peels him, and grabs it, there’s a lot more room to be forgiving, just warn him about his behaviour, ask he returns it, maybe a note depending on how things go. But if instead he shot the captain with a pie, zip tied them, stripped them of their sword, all for no reason, that’s straight self antagging, and should get a very firm warning, if not ban.
All and all, its hard to really decide on a course of action with any of these, due to how little information is on hand. Questioning of each person is needed at minimum to come to a conclusion about their situation, and then likely reviewing the round after.

Scenario 3

You are ahelping a player about an issue. The player has no prior noted issues. A few days earlier, an admin had told you that this type of situation should result in a temporary ban for a first offense, and you are confident that this situation is not substantially different from the type that admin was describing. During the ahelp, another admin pings you on Discord with a link to the ongoing ahelp and tells you to just indefinitely ban them and make them appeal. Excluding trialmins and headmins, all admins are equally “ranked”. A headmin is not currently available.

I myself am a law student, so precedent is always my go to. I would stick with my gut, and give them a temporary ban, as it was done another time. Meanwhile, I would provide a link to the other time that this has happened, to show my fellow admin where I am coming from with this decision. If he agrees with me after that, we are good, and can drop it there. But if he continues to contest, I’ll still stand by my decision, but say we can get a headmin to look at it whenever they are available.
