earlybryane

In-game Username: earlybryane
Discord username: earlyyy_
Characters you play: Nehemiah Gray

On average, how many hours do you expect to admin per week: 10-20

Days you are available to admin on: Almost every single day

How old are you? 21

Do you have any SS14 experience outside of Wizard’s Den servers, or any SS13 experience? I have experience playing on CM13 and a little bit of experience playing on ParadiseStation on SS13.

Do you have prior administration experience (SS13/SS14 experience preferred, please also post a way for us to verify this)? No.

Have you ever been banned from any SS14 or SS13 servers? No.

What are you primarily interested in doing as an admin? I would like to help the newer players understand the rules so clarifying specific rules and how the meta-shield works as I’ve been multiple players not understand it. Hosting fun events that the players would also enjoy is another thing I would be interested in doing for the community as a whole. Another interest would be mentoring new players (Ex. Some SS13 servers have a mentorhelp instead of an ahelp to help newer players understand the game and controls).

What are you least interested in doing as an admin? Punishing players, although it is necessary to help avoid rule-breaking and keeping the game fun for others. I do not want to impose harsh punishments on players that don’t fully understand the rules or simply didn’t read a specific section of the rules. The only exception to this would be players that know that they’re breaking the rules on purpose and being shitters/raiders.

Detail Questions

What role do you think game admins serve on our servers?

I believe game admins roles are: To understand and enforce the rules to make the round enjoyable for players, Help with anyone needing specific help from an admin (Ex. A glitched spot/item in the game or information about the rules), Hosting events that brings variety to rounds and allowed players to experience something new other than the standard gamemode (Such as admin spawned entities), and to clear up any confusion within a round that has happened between players (Ex. Murder from an RP stand-point or Unsuspecting syndicate target) without revealing information about the current gamemode as to not ruin the meta-shield.

Why do you want to become an administrator for SS14?

I want to help the community grow and thrive so there can be newer players on Wizden servers or SS14 servers as a whole. When most players install SS14 for the first time one of their first options is usually going to be the standard Wizden or Goob server. I would like to mentor and teach newer players that need the help to be able to understand and play the game instead of them dying to a random event within the round and then giving up on the game. I believe that I can pass down my knowledge to the newer players easier if I was able to become an administrator, I already so do within RP (Such as atmospherics or medical as they’re usually the departments I play as normally) but becoming an administrator would help me spread knowledge to newer players about every department easier.

How do you feel about the current roleplay status on the servers?

I feel as the PCTide has taken over the servers such as lizard; which is the server I mostly play on. It’s a very good thing, however most of the players that have came over from grasshopper or that are just new don’t know about certain rules such as the meta-shield or metagaming which makes the game more unfun for the antagonists of the round. I have experienced this first-hand and I do not hold it against them as I understand they’re newer players which don’t have much experience on Wizden servers. However, role-play wise I have seen the major difference between LRP before the PCTide (Filled with shitters and almost every sec round is a living hell) and after the PCTide where there is more sec and less shitters making RP more likely with RP-heavy roles such as lawyer, reporter, psychiatrist, and chaplains.

Other than banning problematic players, what admin actions do you believe have the biggest positive impact?

I would say mentoring and teaching the newer players would have the biggest impact on the Wizden servers. This helps players understand the game better and makes them more likely to keep playing SS14 and learning new things about it. Another positive impact I believe admins could do is host events. Playing the same rounds over and over again without doing anything new gets mundane in my opinion, so hosting events every now and then would help refresh players from the same stuff in almost every round time.

Have you ever had a negative experience in the game or with a game admin? If so what, if anything, would you do to prevent other players from experiencing this?

I have not had a negative experience in all my time playing on Wizden servers, if I get ever got ahelped or messaged by an admin they were always respectful and understood each other within our conversation. I have had caused problems in the past when I was newer on Wizden servers and I took the corrections as respectfully as I could with the admins as to not cause further problems. As for negative experiences with the game, I’ve had some but I would say it’s mostly the game code itself and not the players (Which is very understandable as the game is still in early access). Every time I would encounter a bug or something wrong with the game code it wouldn’t be anything massively game-breaking it would usually just be a visual bug or a minor thing.

Have you ever had a good experience with the game or a game admin? If so, what was it?

Almost every single interaction I’ve had with an admin has been positive (Other than my admin remarks, which were completely my fault). Whenever an admin is ghosted or simplying talking through admin chat they are always respectful to whoever they are talking to. There isn’t many admin interactions I’ve had overall due to my region not being in US West therefore I’m usually online when there’s little to no admins. As for my experiences with the game, it’s always getting better as more updates come along and newer stuff gets added or is getting added such as: AI, Newer Antag roles that are getting worked on, Misc items being added into the game, Balances to Antag and Security/Command gameplay and New traitor items being added.

Scenario Questions

Scenario 1

It is the start of the round. There are 60 players on the server. The game mode is traitors, traitors have not been selected yet. There are three players who decided to observe the round instead of join it orbiting you. Two of them are encouraging you to “do something funny”.

Assuming the fact that I am an administrator, I would most likely do something that wouldn’t interfere with the round such as spawning in a ton of TC or anything major. I would probably do something subtle like spawning in something that players don’t usually see that won’t affect the round or if a player asks for an item via an altar as long as it doesn’t interfere with the round I wouldn’t mind giving them that item.

Scenario 2

This scenario takes place on LRP. The Head of Security has decided to coup the Captain. The Head of Personnel agrees with the Head of Security and has taken up arms in case it is necessary to aid in effecting the arrest of the Captain. The Captain is hiding with the Quartermaster in the cargo shuttle to avoid the Clown who has stolen the captains saber as a non-antag. There are five people named in this scenario. Please describe what actions, if any, you would take in relation to each, and why.

The first action I would take is to ahelp the clown and ask them why they have the captains saber. If they have a valid RP reason then I would let the situation play out as security or command would handle it. As for the coup, I would make sure all heads of staff agreed to the coup and the reasoning behind them forming one. The HoP should not need to arm up for a coup unless the captain is being violent in the face of a coup. If the coup is valid, I would let it play out. If it isn’t valid or all heads of staff didn’t agree to it then I would immediately tell the heads of staff doing the coup to stop. I would then note the issue with the command involved in the coup and give them a warning/roleban depending on whether or not they had prior warnings for a similar situation.

Scenario 3

You are ahelping a player about an issue. The player has no prior noted issues. A few days earlier, an admin had told you that this type of situation should result in a temporary ban for a first offense, and you are confident that this situation is not substantially different from the type that admin was describing. During the ahelp, another admin pings you on Discord with a link to the ongoing ahelp and tells you to just indefinitely ban them and make them appeal. Excluding trialmins and headmins, all admins are equally “ranked”. A headmin is not currently available.

The first thing I would do is talk to the other admin on discord and explain to them that I was told to only do a temporary ban for this situation. If they agree with my I would then inform the player they would be getting a temporary ban for the issue. If the admin does not agree with what they were told, I would then inform the player that they would be getting a indefinite ban which may be changed to a temporary ban or they may appeal the ban. If they have any further questions I would answer them to the best of my abilities. After the player is banned, I would send an explanation the situation to the head admin so they may be able to make any corrections or inform me of any corrections once they understand the situation.
