Detailed Summary: On a PR authored by EmoGarbage404, found here, EmoGarbage404 responded to a comment on said PR in a manner that violates multiple sections of the Code of Conduct. I will post a screenshot of EmoGarbage404’s comment and then highlight which sections of the Code of Conduct that it violates.

  • Be friendly and patient. - This is not a friendly nor patient way to respond to a commenter who may have simply missed one of the contents of the PR. A more fitting response might be, “I have actually already accounted for that. Please take a look at the changed files.”
  • Be respectful. - EmoGarbage404’s response is a sarcastic step-by-step set of instructions to look at the files modified by the PR, concluded with the paraphrased, “Use your eyes.” This comes across as disrespectful.
  • Be careful in the words that you choose. - EmoGarbage404’s response leads with calling the previous commenter a fool. This is an example of a personal insult, which is clearly deemed unacceptable by this section in the Code of Conduct.

Overall findings:

  1. EmoGarbage404’s comment was found to be in violation of the Code of Conduct. Specifically, the comment was not very friendly and could have been worded better.
  2. The GitHub ban placed on the complainant was not valid, at the same time contributors should not be policing the Code of Conduct. Contact a Lead Maintainer in case of violation.
  3. The complainants comment was found to not be in violation of the Code of Conduct.

Resulting action:

  • EmoGarbage404 has been giving a verbal warning to avoid such comments and to instead contact Lead Maintainers to act on the Code of Conduct and to hide dismissive comments on GitHub.
  • The GitHub ban for the complainant will not be taken into further consideration for future moderation actions.
