Do you have any SS14 experience outside of Wizard’s Den servers, or any SS13 experience? I’ve played primarily on Wizden as I’ve found it more enjoyable than any other server I’ve played.
I had played SS13 a considerable time ago for a somewhat short while.
Do you have prior administration experience (SS13/SS14 experience preferred, please also post a way for us to verify this)? I have no SS13/14 admin experience outside of local servers for friends, however I have administrated for various differing size ROBLOX games I worked on as developer / admin, primarily higher end management however I’d also semi-frequently do reports and tickets.
The largest and most notable instance of a project I’ve done this with is TYPE://SOUL, (TYPE://SOUL [FLOWER REWORK] - Roblox). I have since stopped working on this project, so I’m no longer listed in the game’s description as an active developer, but you can find me on the game’s group contributor rank (Type Soul - Roblox).
At its peak this game averaged 120,000 concurrent players and during lower times 50,000-80,000, which is the primary reason why I’m noting it.
(I would also advise you exercise caution when researching this game, some very “sketchy” characters have been involved with it, which is another reason as to why I’ve left.)
Have you ever been banned from any SS14 or SS13 servers? No.
What are you primarily interested in doing as an admin? Primarily in-game rule enforcement (and subsequently AHelps), alongwith events, I’m not a giant fan of admemes personally but I feel it may be fun for people involved to do an event sparsely.
I’m also interested in potentially giving guidance to new players where applicable, obviously without risking derailing experience or robbing other players of the opportunity.
What are you least interested in doing as an admin? I’m not a huge fan of the concept of doing ban appeals, I don’t really want to be the one having to damning a user by denying an application, but it’s not something I’m incapable of doing.
Detail Questions
What role do you think game admins serve on our servers?
Admins exist to ensure the game and general experience goes as smooth as possible for all players involved, through enforcing rules and aiding with RP.
Through enforcing rules Admins help in preventing unnecessary bad experience for the victims of rulebreakers, but also through smaller pushes such as messages (or smites) Admins can help potential or unaware rulebreakers from causing trouble without ruining their experience by banning them.
Why do you want to become an administrator for SS14?
I’ve become incredibly invested in Wizden and its community, I’d really like to help out in any way I can, especially due to the recent struggles with admin workload. It makes me sad seeing a game I’ve fallen in love with have so many troubles.
How do you feel about the current roleplay status on the servers?
I primarily play on LRP (Leviathan and Lizard), and I’ve generally noticed that RP is more or less non-present outside of basic metashield stuff (which is still ironically broken all the time), I do wish it was more common, but for the few times its actually they’re its very fun to be involved with.
I have also played on Salamander, and while considerably better than Leviathan in terms of active roleplay, I still feel occasional intervention could go a long way to remind some players of the MRP.
I would also like to note, that even without in depth roleplay, the interactions with players still tend to be really fun without exception.
Other than banning problematic players, what admin actions do you believe have the biggest positive impact?
I really believe that non-ban punishments / reminders serve a great purpose, small pointers and smites can cause a player to change how they think about their actions without banning them from the game or other overzealous punishments.
I also feel that admins helping with roleplay through fun occasional events and one off interventions like prayers can really elevate the experience and make matches feel alot more special.
Have you ever had a negative experience in the game or with a game admin? If so what, if anything, would you do to prevent other players from experiencing this?
I have never had a bad experience with a game admin, however I find myself sometimes being frustrated with how security can sometimes forgo space law to the detriment of their detainees/prisoners or how some players can be over-aggressive / self antag.
My desired solution to these issues would be to remind or warn players responsible that what they’re doing is not okay, and to think twice in these situations going forward before trying to outright punish any of them.
Have you ever had a good experience with the game or a game admin? If so, what was it?
I generally find most matches to be a good experience, but admins in particular I’ve found some special “admeme” shifts to be incredibly fun, such as being a CentComm lawyer or an ERT leader were both incredible experiences and very fun to do.
Scenario Questions
Scenario 1
It is the start of the round. There are 60 players on the server. The game mode is traitors, traitors have not been selected yet. There are three players who decided to observe the round instead of join it orbiting you. Two of them are encouraging you to “do something funny”.
I would apologize, kindly refuse and explain to them my reasoning, since the match is so early and no traitors have been selected doing something to potentially shake things up would be an objectively bad idea as it would almost certainly degrade or outright ruin the experience for a good number of players.
If they were to continue asking me I would just ignore them, a player orbiting you cant really cause any issues aside from flood your chat.
Scenario 2
This scenario takes place on LRP. The Head of Security has decided to coup the Captain. The Head of Personnel agrees with the Head of Security and has taken up arms in case it is necessary to aid in effecting the arrest of the Captain. The Captain is hiding with the Quartermaster in the cargo shuttle to avoid the Clown who has stolen the captains saber as a non-antag. There are five people named in this scenario. Please describe what actions, if any, you would take in relation to each, and why.
I would try to contact the HoS and HoP that what they’re doing tends to negatively effect the experience of others, especially the actual antags. Command should really stick to their job and make sure that they’re not detractors for others. If they refuse to cooperate in any regard I would likely send in ERT/DS to deal with the sitaution (provided its applicable, I would not trigger events if it would further degrade the experience, that’d obviously just make things worse.) and afterwards look to punish them with something like a roleban at the end of the shift if warranted.
(AMENDMENT AS OF 22/11/2024)
I had forgotten to address the matter of the Clown, I would say the clown shouldn’t receive any drastic punishment unless they were actively using the saber maliciously or if it was a repeated offense, likely just warning them.
Scenario 3
You are ahelping a player about an issue. The player has no prior noted issues. A few days earlier, an admin had told you that this type of situation should result in a temporary ban for a first offense, and you are confident that this situation is not substantially different from the type that admin was describing. During the ahelp, another admin pings you on Discord with a link to the ongoing ahelp and tells you to just indefinitely ban them and make them appeal. Excluding trialmins and headmins, all admins are equally “ranked”. A headmin is not currently available.
I would quickly re-read over what ever relevant rules were infringed to gain further insight on both opinions, and afterwards make a decision based on my own discretion, likely favoring the temporary ban as its a first offense, however I would clarify if this was a correct choice with a headmin when available.
