Characters you play: Violette Lunaris, Ellie Williams, Livy Tremaine, Brigitte Janee, Kiriko Kamori, Skye Lockheart
On average, how many hours do you expect to admin per week: 20
Days you are available to admin on: Any day I’m not working, but my work days vary. I alternate between 2 days and 3 days off.
How old are you? 21
Do you have any SS14 experience outside of Wizard’s Den servers, or any SS13 experience? I have played some Goob station and Delta V, but not a lot, like less than 5 hours total on those servers
Do you have prior administration experience (SS13/SS14 experience preferred, please also post a way for us to verify this)? Nothing that’s worth noting. A few minor discord servers a couple years ago but that hardly counts
Have you ever been banned from any SS14 or SS13 servers? I have not
What are you primarily interested in doing as an admin? Responding to ahelps and prayers, overall helping improve the wizden community. I’d also like to help with the occasional admeme event. Ban appeals as well, reviewing footage of the person appealing to make sure it’s warranted
What are you least interested in doing as an admin? Out of game rule enforcement. I’m not sure I’d be very good at reviewing footage to check for rulebreaks that may have occurred.
Detail Questions
What role do you think game admins serve on our servers?
I think game admins are present to ensure the best possible experience for all players, and taking action when tensions get high. I’ve seen this happen on wizden servers where after a particularly bad round where everyone is mad, admins host a fun event round afterwards to help lighten the mood and get everyone’s minds off things.
Why do you want to become an administrator for SS14?
The wizden admin team is very short staffed, and I’ve had my fair share of frustrations as a player because of it. I want to become an admin to help avoid player frustration and incidents that are directly related to that frustration
How do you feel about the current roleplay status on the servers?
Wizen server are servers for new players, and it shows. the roleplay status set for all servers is appropriate, and players (as expected) sometimes have trouble roleplaying, or following along to certain roleplay situations. It’s never so bad that my immersion is completely broken though.
Other than banning problematic players, what admin actions do you believe have the biggest positive impact?
Admin events after particularly frustrating rounds or incidents. I think these events help to break tension, even sometimes between two specific players. On a less significant note, I think answering prayers goes a long way to making sure players have a fun and enjoyable round; after all, it never feels good to be ignored.
Have you ever had a negative experience in the game or with a game admin? If so what, if anything, would you do to prevent other players from experiencing this?
I have had numerous remarkably negative experiences with a specific player, and the couple of times i sent an ahelp because of it, I never received any response or consolation. I would genuinely make ahelp responses and investigations my top priority, because those are the situations that are happening in the here and now, and will dictate how much any player enjoys the rest of their shift. If that player’s ahelp is ignored and they get annoyed enough, it could lead to them acting out and ruining the experience for another player.
Have you ever had a good experience with the game or a game admin? If so, what was it?
Most of my experiences with the game are positive. The bad ones only stand out because they’re VERY bad. I know for a fact that when my prayers at the altars get answered, or admins host fun events, I feel the happiest I’ve ever felt playing the game.
Scenario Questions
Scenario 1
It is the start of the round. There are 60 players on the server. The game mode is traitors, traitors have not been selected yet. There are three players who decided to observe the round instead of join it orbiting you. Two of them are encouraging you to “do something funny”.
(This statement applies to all the following scenarios: I am not familiar with all the tools available to admins to affect gameplay experience. This will affect my answers)
Honestly I wouldn’t feel comfortable interfering so heavily with a normal round. I’d ask them what they’d consider to be funny, and weigh my options from there. Nothing that would outright sabotage the round or ruin anyone’s experiences.
Scenario 2
This scenario takes place on LRP. The Head of Security has decided to coup the Captain. The Head of Personnel agrees with the Head of Security and has taken up arms in case it is necessary to aid in effecting the arrest of the Captain. The Captain is hiding with the Quartermaster in the cargo shuttle to avoid the Clown who has stolen the captains saber as a non-antag. There are five people named in this scenario. Please describe what actions, if any, you would take in relation to each, and why.
Well I think to fully understand what actions need to be taken, I’d ask why the Head of Security wants to coup the captain. How was the Captain acting, or what were they saying to warrant such a response from their two closest comrades? Are either of them willing to take responsibility to be an acting captain for the station? What do they plan to do with the captain after the coup? Regarding the captain, quartermaster and clown, it sounds like the clown is trying to kill the captain and QM. Since the clown is non-antag, if that’s the case, I’d ahelp a warning to them for acting out of their role, but only if it reached that point. The QM doesn’t seem to be causing any issues, and neither is the captain aside from the above transcript regarding the coup.
Scenario 3
You are ahelping a player about an issue. The player has no prior noted issues. A few days earlier, an admin had told you that this type of situation should result in a temporary ban for a first offense, and you are confident that this situation is not substantially different from the type that admin was describing. During the ahelp, another admin pings you on Discord with a link to the ongoing ahelp and tells you to just indefinitely ban them and make them appeal. Excluding trialmins and headmins, all admins are equally “ranked”. A headmin is not currently available.
It depends on what the player did, but I could never see myself permanently banning someone on their first offense aside from very extreme circumstances. If, for example, this character gibbed someone as a non-antag. I wouldn’t perma-ban this person just because another admin told me to. I think every situation is different and needs to be weighed on it’s own factors. On top of that, I can’t imagine how frustrating that’d be; getting a permanent ban on your first offense.
