We were talking about this on Discord again, and how basically every single piece of forensics involving fingerprints is ruined by the prevalence of budget insuls.
Perhaps touching things should have a species specific identifier on the object, so the detective can have a more concrete lead than “yup, it’s insuls”.
Such as “Human patten yellow insulative fibers”.
I don’t imagine many species share the same hand shape at all, except for maybe slimes and humans, so it’d give the detective more interesting counterplay against antags.
