FridgeNuker - Insulting Other Players in dead chat

Ban reason:  “Being Extremely Rude in Dead Chat”
Length of ban: Appeal Only
Events leading to the ban:  Had a series of rev rounds in a row. Died fairly quickly into Rev round, was saddened to see multiple command staff abandoning the station and hiding in space rather then engaging in the game mode, including members of command who fled into space and hid multiple rounds in a row and called this out in dead chat. Got into a heated argument with one of the heads that was stalling, and said something in reference to a popular low tier god meme, playing off the character name, Bill Creed.
Reason the ban should be removed: I don’t feel that I constantly harass or berate anyone. I like to mald for a round and then  it’s a clean slate.  Even though I’ve had several issues with Bill Creed before, I always take things on a round by round basis, and even had some pretty good interactions in rounds prior. It always frustrates me when a player will accuse me of met grudging, when I know that I take great lengths to avoid both meta grudging or friending, and many players seem to think that just because they have done something to cause an IC character issue across multiple rounds, that this constitutes meta grudging.

Clearly I just need to tone down the mald , but I do feel that I was also provoked as I can say that I’ve had several negative interactions with this player before, including being personally insulted in LOOC chat.  As I felt myself becoming increasingly frustrated, I made sure to log off and take a break from the game after the round was done, because I felt that I could be bringing the experience down for other players, and feel this deserves some level of recognition.

I also feel it’s frustrating when people just flee into space the moment they encounter any kind of serious trouble and ruins the game for minor antagonists like thief who are unable to complete their objectives, if revolutionaries hadn’t called shuttle vote and had instead dedicated themselves to hunting command down the round would have essentially been indefinitely and that just isn’t fun for anyone.

In future I will strive to be the bigger person and avoid flaming other people, even if it’s only for the remainder of a round. I’ve had several instances where I’ve gotten into an argument with a player in a previous round and they’ve come to apologize in LOOC next round and I always try and make sure that they know it’s water under the bridge, because at the end of the day, it’s just a game and we’re all there to have a good time and I’d hate for someone to think I thought any less of them because they made a one off mistake.

I appreciate you taking the time to read this appeal, and hope you are able to see my perspective, and offer me another chance.

If command is just stalling a round and hiding in space, just aHelp it for stalling. Its not a particularly good reason to mald or tell someone to kill them self. Just close the game and touch some grass if you’re that upset about it.
There seems to be some good reflection in here, I hope you will follow your own advice, so I’ll remove the ban but any repeat instances will have a harsher ban given.
Appeal accepted - Ban removed.

To enable speedy review of all appeals, appeals that meet certain requirements may bypass the standard, often lengthy, review process. Our banning policy requires appeals which are denied using the speedy review process have this notice placed on them. Any of the following criteria typically make an appeal eligible for the speedy review process:

  • the ban length is less than or equal to 14 days,
  • the appeal is older than 7 days, or
  • the result of the appeal is obvious.

In some cases, the banning admin may process the appeal. The banning admin cannot process the appeal if:

  • the facts that led to the ban are disputed,
  • the appeal makes a claim that the admin who placed it was biased, or
  • the ban was not within the ban guidelines.

You may contact a head game admin if you believe this appeal was handled improperly, but should be aware that this will typically only result in a review of the processing of the appeal itself, with the appeal being re-opened if an issue is found. An appeal is considered to have been processed improperly if the criteria to use the speedy review process was not met, or if the facts which the processing admin relied on to process the appeal were incorrect. You must concisely describe why you believe the appeal was handled improperly. If no issue is found with the processing of the appeal, the appeal itself will not be re-reviewed. If, in bad faith, you claim that an appeal was handled improperly, the reviewing head admin may decide to extend the time you must wait before you appeal and/or extend your ban duration. You can find a full list of staff, including head game admins at the staff directory.
