FTL roundremoving players is not fun

Currently when a shuttle goes into FTL, it can throw players on exterior into the FTL dimension where they are essentially forever round removed.

Instead of throwing these players into the FTL dimension, they should be thrown into the same map the station occupies, so they at least have a chance of returning if they have a GPS.

iirc they are technically on the same map as the station. just… really far away. but honestly I feel like this is deserved. spend the like what 1-2 steel? to make a chair it is not that hard.

I had a nuke disk pinpointer and it shown a question mark, so I assume it’s on a different map. It wasn’t a mechanic I was aware of when I briefly touched a shuttle lattice before it went FTL.

I don’t see a point in debating who deserves what, since this is a roleplaying game. There’s no roleplay when you’re cut off from the server playerbase and left to /ghost.

Mid-FTL is an entirely different place from both the station and CentComm - you can’t manually fly to a mid-FTL shuttle, because it’s not in the same space as you.

I mean, why should you be able to FTL in a shuttle that isn’t even surrounded by walls?
But you are allowed to FTL by simply having something to buckle onto so shittles aren’t prohibitely costly for salvage.

like I said. spend 1-2 steel on some chairs.

I’m probably using the wrong words or you’re not reading what I wrote.

Slightly overlapping a shuttle while it’s preparing to enter FTL is not a very enjoyable way to get round-removed. Adding more chairs only helps if you actually intended to FTL alongside the shuttle.

I do get why you are frustrated with that. Yet FTL is intended to be dangerous.
I do however agree that you should be yeeted out FTL at FTL speed(just so people can see your coorsds accelerate into space at mach 100).

If you put yourself in that situation there should be consequences.

And if antag get hand on shuttle and yeeted you into FTL space, they should be rewarded for doing so. Otherwise we get to “Let me waste time to gib a person, so i can throw their brain into space”
Since if you alone with antag on shuttle. You will die(unless you are a clown main. Then you have soap arsenal fo fight them)

it also gives the chance if your super lucky (or unlucky) to cannon face first into a space rock which could be pretty funny.

Slav: “Oh no I FTL’d and my friend got shot into space”
Cargo: “I found them, they impacted face first into the ATS at mach 10, guess we can get the brain to Sci”

Fun fact, since FTL always sends you to a similar location (that’s why when you look at the console during ftl you can usually see the arrivals shuttle not too far away), it’s possible to rescue someone’s from ftl by building a very long lattice on both sides, kind of like cathing them with a fishnet. Of course this is very impractical and requires both a gps and a radio, but I have almost successfully done this once, sadly i was 3 tiles away from him and evac was already here.

I initially thought you were talking about falling off mid-flight, but since you’re actually talking about the initial ftl launch i do agree it should send you flying off in the same space, not FTL space.

However, just like getting gibbed by arrivals, this is the kind of thing that happens to you once, you laugh it off and it never happens to you again if you’re careful.

FTL should be louder maybe? That way you get a clear warning that the ship is about to launch and don’t board it.

Maybe more of a visual indicator too would be nice, especially for new players where the entire concept of the shuttle is complicated for them

Could do a vocal countdown. Just one of admins voiceover, FTL in 3, 2, 1 in their own voice. Sound goes off on ftl activation

use the same voice that does the “welcome to the station crew enjoy your stay”

An indicator is a good idea, personally I would prefer a visual “glow” around the shuttle or some effect I can see as I often have music in background. Shuttle arriving from FTL already has a visual indicator, so departure being visual would be good for consistency. And it would be more accessible to hearing impaired players.

I like the sound of that solution. It can be hard to tell where a shuttle’s pre-FTL sound effect is actually coming from - and as you say, some people have to play with limited or no audio - so having a visual cue would be quite helpful overall, I think!

we should gib people who end up floating in ftl space
if you fall out of the shuttle during ftl or you get launched off of it you should just become a smear

There IS collision damage if you go too fast. So if you get flung off at FTL speed and hit something, you will probably gib IF you do not phase trough the object cuz physics.
