On average, how many hours do you expect to admin per week: 4-8

How old are you? 23.

Do you have any SS14 experience outside of Wizard’s Den servers, or any SS13 experience? I maybe played ten rounds on Fulp or Bee station 5 years ago, but most of my time is on Wizden.

I sprite for Pax astralis (figuring out Gitbash was fun) and frequent almost every english SS14 server. Almost.

Do you have prior administration experience (SS13/SS14 experience preferred, please also post a way for us to verify this)? I do not.

Have you ever been banned from any SS14 or SS13 servers? I have not.

What are you primarily interested in doing as an admin? -Helping New Players
-Adding unintrusive little bits of fun into a round (especially for Chaplains, gotta give em somethin to do
-Honestly? Watching cool and special stuff happen! I’ve seen weddings, moments of genuine IC remorse, bonds between crew that strengthen and strengthen… This is a beautiful game. And I wanna see more of that! Doesn’t mean I have to be the one in the spotlight.

What are you least interested in doing as an admin? Personally, Banning. If ya gotta, ya gotta, but If someone gets banned, they might never get to partake in a lot of what makes this game and the people that play it special.

Ive gotten second chances in my life. It’d only feel right to give that to other people too.

Detail Questions

What role do you think game admins serve on our servers?

They seem to fit a similar role to a Game Master, as someone who’s run tabletop for half of my lifetime, soon to be more than.

They exist to uphold standards, rules, but also have the potential to add on little special moments to what happens too. And they help make the game a better place.

Why do you want to become an administrator for SS14?

Multiple reasons, but the first and foremost is that I love this game. I’m not going to pretend I’ve never been a little TOO passionate about the game, but I meant it when I was talking about how special this place is to me.

The consensus from several players and friends seems to be that the servers need more admins, so I felt it only right to step up and pitch on in!

We can’t leave all the work up to you guys.

How do you feel about the current roleplay status on the servers?

That’s a tricky one, really. I like it most of the time. I personally prefer more talking and hanging out but sometimes you just wanna grind out research and dissociate.

I think I would try to promote more roleplay where I can, but I fully acknowledge that that only goes so far, and ends with someone who’s actually just fine with how it is. And that’s okay.

Other than banning problematic players, what admin actions do you believe have the biggest positive impact?

I think just bridging the connection there is what helps the most. And a lot of the times, that starts with just a

“Hey, so, what’s going on? Tell me your side of things.”

Obviously bad players will just gripe or lie but some of the best exchanges i’ve had or seen involving admins have just been like conversations between friends.

I have a certificate of completion from a course I took on Nonviolent Communication (if required, I will gladly provide a picture of it) and I would be most happy to put it to use for the bettering of SS14.

Have you ever had a negative experience in the game or with a game admin? If so what, if anything, would you do to prevent other players from experiencing this?

Yes. Not on Wizden Servers, mind you.

I do not plan on tipping the scales in a round too heavily, especially not through spawning of excessive mobs or weaponry.

I also do not plan on intervening in ways more significant than as justified by behavior or the current scenario.

Have you ever had a good experience with the game or a game admin? If so, what was it?

The admin actions that have had the biggest impact on me were ones of guidance and forgiveness. Rules clarifications. Words of encouragement.

Once GalaxyCad helped me out when I was having a rough round as the Head of Personnel. I Hadn’t ever dealt with PDA confiscation in my Security time or at least with the lines not to cross with it, and when I had overstepped a bit Galaxy gave me a heads-up on thinking things through before stamping papers and that was super helpful.

Most players have NO idea what adminning is like. That’s… how I got here. But I’ve listened while writing to people who DO admin, and I’ve heard the aches on their ends too. And I’ve heard how the players feel too.

It seems to go the best when we just take a moment to connect, even if we don’t always agree.

Scenario Questions

Scenario 1

It is the start of the round. There are 60 players on the server. The game mode is traitors, traitors have not been selected yet. There are three players who decided to observe the round instead of join it orbiting you. Two of them are encouraging you to “do something funny”.

A key part of the traitors round is the fact that the traitors can be anyone, save for security and command.

Whatever I might do cannot give that information away. It is vital that it not.

However, on Security and Command’s end, it is vital that when alerts do come up, they are handled and the investigation begins.

Whatever I might do cannot impede that investigation. It is vital that it not.

If I truly am to do something funny, it must be harmless and inobtrusive. To me, something along the lines of filling the Disposals area of the station with cockroaches would be fitting.

Scenario 2

This scenario takes place on LRP. The Head of Security has decided to coup the Captain. The Head of Personnel agrees with the Head of Security and has taken up arms in case it is necessary to aid in effecting the arrest of the Captain. The Captain is hiding with the Quartermaster in the cargo shuttle to avoid the Clown who has stolen the captains saber as a non-antag. There are five people named in this scenario. Please describe what actions, if any, you would take in relation to each, and why.

I do not have enough information on the Head of Security and the Head of Personnel. I am looking into it but if I find nothing it is to be left alone.

The Quartermaster is within their rights to house the captain, and the Captain is sensible to run from someone that has stolen the sabre, a dangerous item.

Lastly, the Clown.

While the Clown “bit” of stealing because it’s funny is legitimate and this may serve as an example of that situational comedy, I believe it is best to draw the line at how the item is used.

If the Clown merely hands the item back, to which the Captain realizes they are not going to die (though i presume they will still be Coup’d) I would see no issue.

If the Clown attacks and kills the Captain or Quartermaster, or comes into conflict with the HoP and HoS and kills either of them, I personally would find this to be a bridge too far under the rules on Self-antagging.

Killing someone, Command or not, because you are bored is not suitable for Clown or for any Non-Antag.

Lastly, if the Clown watches the Captain get arrested and complies in the return of the sabre to the new Acting Captain, this is also suitable as well. I would prefer they didn’t steal such an important item, but sometimes we have our brief harmless funnies.

Scenario 3

You are ahelping a player about an issue. The player has no prior noted issues. A few days earlier, an admin had told you that this type of situation should result in a temporary ban for a first offense, and you are confident that this situation is not substantially different from the type that admin was describing. During the ahelp, another admin pings you on Discord with a link to the ongoing ahelp and tells you to just indefinitely ban them and make them appeal. Excluding trialmins and headmins, all admins are equally “ranked”. A headmin is not currently available.

I am going to settle for the lighter punishment, and will keep an eye on Discord and PMs should I receive a word from a headmin that becomes available.

It is always better to save drastic options for when they are utmostly needed. This is not a position fit for jumping the gun and maxsentencing whenever possible, even if i’m having a bad day and might want to, juuust a little.

If the sentence must later be upped then that is In my opinion preferable to later having to make amends and lessen a punishment.

I would always want to assume the best of my peers and the players.
