Characters you play: Bodie Larocque, Eyeclen Leflour, Diego Teeples, Weaves-The-Webs

On average, how many hours do you expect to admin per week: 10-15 in game, but present in the discord when i’m not sleeping

Days you are available to admin on: Everyday of the week

How old are you? 20

Do you have any SS14 experience outside of Wizard’s Den servers, or any SS13 experience? Played on Delta V and Frontier before cool experiences but I enjoy upstream more. Tried SS13 for a bit but was turned away by the outdated interface.

Do you have prior administration experience (SS13/SS14 experience preferred, please also post a way for us to verify this)? Decent amount of time as a part of the admin team for a Minecraft factions server, no SS13 or SS14 experience

Have you ever been banned from any SS14 or SS13 servers?
Yes, Twice, Once with about ~15 hours of in-game time for Antag rolling which resulted in a 72 hr Ban and a second time about a week later for 12 Hrs for placing a HV Grill in maintenance as a non-antag. I wrote a decent amount about these two bans in my previous admin application, but to sum it up I have learned from them and have not been banned since.

Admins have the ability to perform various tasks which are not available to the average player. An incomplete list of these tasks is: in-game rule enforcement, in-game events, ban appeals, and out-of-game rule enforcement through things like replay/log reviews in response to player reports. With these, and any other tasks you’re aware of in mind, answer the following two questions.

What are you primarily interested in doing as an admin? I am interested in typical in-game things such as answering ahelps and dealing with problem players, but also a big reason that I want to become an admin is because I am very interested in improving the moderation experience. I have been working on SS14.Admin, and plan to start tackling the things in the NextGen Wizden Adminning project. For starters, I am almost done with my entire log page rewrite which will make resolving past round issues better. Also I think personally I could be helpful with processing the whitelist applications, and resolving past round issues by parsing through the logs. (at this point I live in the logs)

What are you least interested in doing as an admin?
In general I would not be opposed to doing any actions as an admin.

Answer the following questions in detail, so we can get a better idea of how you’d approach adminning.

What role do you think game admins serve on our servers?
Admins enforce the rules, (warnings, account notes, banning), while also providing rp experiences (admemes, admin rp events like vex traders), and while also playing the role of Centcom in game.

Why do you want to become an administrator for SS14?
In my previous application I said that SS14 has become a second home for me and I want to take care of the community as they took care of me, and that still stands as a reason that I would like to become an admin. I also want to make sure that people always have a good time and that problem players don’t hurt others experiences.

How do you feel about the current roleplay status on the servers?
In my previous application, I had little to no experience on MRP, and since then I have become a dedicated MRP player, as the experience of MRP is like no other in my opinion. In general on MRP people respect each other and want to engage in RP situations. More recently MRP has gotten a bit off track and is leaning a bit towards LRP, but I think that MRP’s issues can be solved with some small culture changes and moderation. While LRP has become just lots of chaos and borderline self-antag to the point of almost NRP. I am glad to have been able to sit in on the impromptu culture change meeting and I think that some of the new proposals for an LRP space law will greatly help the LRP servers. Overall, I think that everyone has a play style that suits them and that is the reason that we have two full LRP servers and a half full MRP server speaks to that. So currently I think that the state of RP is decent, it just needs some slight culture adjustments.

Other than banning problematic players, what admin actions do you believe have the biggest positive impact?
By giving newer players advice and nudging players in the right direction. Admins are able to cultivate a fun gameplay environment for everyone. Just nudging people in the right direction in many situations might be able to have a positive impact for that player and thus the others in the game around them.

Have you ever had a negative experience in the game or with a game admin? If so what, if anything, would you do to prevent other players from experiencing this?
No, but like I’ve said before I think my only comment would be that I wish that there was more response sometimes to ahelps on whether or not the issue has been handled. But I know that many issues get resolved without ever responding.

Have you ever had a good experience with the game or a game admin? If so, what was it?
One memory that I have that really sticks out to me was probably my 4th or 5th shift on salamander. I had chosen to observe the round in order to just get the feel of MRP as I was still new. I was spectating an admin who decided to create a RP event for the station. As I was the only ghost they asked me if I would like to play the role of an abused traitor. To make a long story short, the admin explained the RP to me and how I should act and such, and that RP experience is still one of my favorite rounds to date. Although I cannot remember who the admin was I thank them for starting me off on my MRP journey.

The following are scenarios, respond with how you would handle each as an administrator. Respond with the assumption that you are an administrator with full access to the admin tools, and that you have all the knowledge needed to use these tools. Respond in detail, explain the reasons behind decisions you make and describe any assumptions you are making. When you need to make an assumption, it is preferred for you to describe how differences in the assumption would affect your actions.

It is the start of the round. There are 60 players on the server. The game mode is traitors, traitors have not been selected yet. There are three players who decided to observe the round instead of join it orbiting you. Two of them are encouraging you to “do something funny”.
As it’s only 0s into the round you can just ignore them, they choose to observe the round therefore the people who actually decided to join the round deserve to be traitors. Plus the round progresses perfectly fine without an admin doing “something funny.” Now I love talking to people so I would definitely just talk with them while the round progressed, maybe playing some music from a midi to just brighten their days.

You see a clown using crayon to write on the floor in front of security. The clown writings are negative things about security, like “shitsec”. A secoff tells the clown that they’re being arrested for vandalism, stuns them, and cuffs them. Before the secoff is able to get the clown into the brig, a passenger slips the secoff, causing them to lose their baton, then uses the baton to stun another secoff that comes to help as the clown runs away. The passenger escapes through disposals. Having heard an AOS radio callout, the detective enters maintenance near disposals and shoots the passenger to crit. There are four players in this scenario, the clown, the passenger, the secoff, and the detective.
Now this situation can be broken down into what I would do for each of the players. Clown - The clown has every right to just write on the floor however that is vandalism and therefore their arrest would be a valid thing for the sec officer to do to them. Sec Officer - I would say the sec officer could have talked to the clown a bit more first and asked them to stop vandalizing. Just giving them a warning before they arrested them could have been a solotion. Also in terms of escalation they could have just told them they were being arrested and if the clown had just let them cuff them then there would be no reason to stun the clown. However if the clown had started to resist arrest or run away then the baton may have been warranted. Passenger - First off if the passenger is an antag then case closed for them, they can slip the secoff as they are an antag, however if they are not are not an antag this is self-antag activities, I think that in this case I might just leave a note on their account for future admins to see if this activity was continuing to happen, and I might just give them a friendly bwoink to tell them that you can’t do that as a non-antag just as a reminder. Detective - This is a cut and dry case of over escalation the detective has several other means to detain the passenger before using their Inspector, also the use of the Inspector is not warranted see this quote from the wiki (I know the wiki is basically dead but it still has some good things), ”it is meant to be used as a last resort, and should never be pulled out except in the direst of circumstances” I would definitely bowink the detective to ask them about the over escalation, and to mention the fact that the Inspector is not supposed to be used unless as a last resort.

You and another admin have been adminning for around an hour. The rate of issues has been easily manageable due to having 2 admins. Neither of you have been talking in admin chat. You are using ahelp to warn a player for breaking a rule when the other admin joins the ahelp and confirms that it is against the rules, but that it’s fine in this case and they can ignore the rule for the rest of the round. You haven’t taken any other admin actions yet, such as applying a ban or writing a note.
I would hop over to admin chat to ask why the other admin said that the person could ignore the rules, and if it was a misunderstanding and that admin wanted to clarify to the person that they in fact cannot ignore the rules then we would tell the person that they cannot actually break the rules for the rest of the round. If the other admin said something along the lines of “its fine we are admins” I would forward this issue to the the Head admins because it has now become a case of admin misconduct. As admins we don’t have permission or get the right to just break the rules, or give people permission to break the rules, we uphold them not break them. After some clarification from head admins I think leaving a note on the offending players account would be my next course of action
