In-game Username: GoGoRoboto
Discord username: gogoroboto
Characters you play: Poisons-The-Chems, Beats-The-Security
On average, how many hours do you expect to admin per week: 4
Days you are available to admin on: Tues-Sat
How old are you? 22
Do you have any SS14 experience outside of Wizard’s Den servers, or any SS13 experience? I have around 100 hours split between RMC, Goob, Frontier, and Starlight
Do you have prior administration experience (SS13/SS14 experience preferred, please also post a way for us to verify this)? I used to run halo clans and I’ve been staff for a Gmod server that doesn’t exist anymore, so proof is unfortunately a little tough.
Have you ever been banned from any SS14 or SS13 servers? Technically from Wizden, but it was reversed as it was some kind of false flag automated ban. I’ve had no other server bans or rolebans.
What are you primarily interested in doing as an admin? In-game rule enforcement and events.
Also being a person that can respond to a helps in a… helpful way. I know there’s a lot of new players and others that appreciate clarifications and explanations outside of the Discord.
What are you least interested in doing as an admin? Replay reviews.
Detail Questions
What role do you think game admins serve on our servers?
They’re here to both maintain rule enforcement and preserve the things that make ss14 as fun as for as many as possible, within reason. This will include spicing up rounds on rare occasions as well as helping out people where needed to the best of their ability.
They volunteer outside the game too, through things such as answering questions on Discord/Forums and reviewing replays.
Admins can also be a guiding hand for new players who are asking for some extra help to get their bearings.
Why do you want to become an administrator for SS14?
I would like to do my part in helping make ss14 what it has been for me, for others. I’m not much of a coder, so this would be the best way I can contribute to the community.
Some admin interaction early on helped get me into ss14 and it would be my pleasure to do that for someone else.
(But most of all I want my name to be a funny color in the Discord)
How do you feel about the current roleplay status on the servers?
I mostly take it for what it is. I enjoy both LRP and MRP, if people are playing for something more (the RP part of this game) than whatever wincons they think they have, them I’m happy. For the most part I think Wizden players maintain that.
Other than banning problematic players, what admin actions do you believe have the biggest positive impact?
Preventing bugs from ending a shift too early and knowing when it’s best to sort out a situation between players over banning them, would be two of the bigger ones.
Beyond that, admins often do the memorable stuff. Sometimes it’s small actions that add to a round and other times it’s whole events. I have always appreciated that if an admeme is going to do something significant, they let the server know in one way or another first.
Have you ever had a negative experience in the game or with a game admin? If so what, if anything, would you do to prevent other players from experiencing this?
Early on as a sec cadet I had an admin bwoink me for not searching a suspect good enough (I didn’t check pockets or coat). It kinda put me off from playing that department for a bit.
In my opinion it’s super weird that an admin was manually checking me for that to begin with, but if anyone should have been sent a message it should be the HoS. New players should make mistakes and learn from them. It’s all part of the fun. People shouldn’t be bwoinked for making simple mistakes as a trainee role.
Have you ever had a good experience with the game or a game admin? If so, what was it?
There’s the times where I was stuck in a wall from a bug with wheelchairs and similar stuff. I’ve been accidentally deleted. I’ve asked for permission to just DNR people jumping into the plasma pits on Plasma station as CMO.
All sorts of stuff. Having someone there to sort out silly things, fix issues from bugs, and give live confirmation on rules/RP issues is a huge plus.
And then there’s the Admemes. Occasional Admemes make the day better.
Scenario Questions
Scenario 1
It is the start of the round. There are 60 players on the server. The game mode is traitors, traitors have not been selected yet. There are three players who decided to observe the round instead of join it orbiting you. Two of them are encouraging you to “do something funny”.
I would likely continue as I normally would without interaction, doing whatever I planned on doing. Even if I was in the mood for a funny, it’s best not to train players that they can bother staff into doing stuff.
I might even employ one of those cool admin ‘incognito’ strats I’ve heard about.
Scenario 2
This scenario takes place on LRP. The Head of Security has decided to coup the Captain. The Head of Personnel agrees with the Head of Security and has taken up arms in case it is necessary to aid in effecting the arrest of the Captain. The Captain is hiding with the Quartermaster in the cargo shuttle to avoid the Clown who has stolen the captains saber as a non-antag. There are five people named in this scenario. Please describe what actions, if any, you would take in relation to each, and why.
I am assuming that I’ve joined in early enough to see much of this transpire, but too late to have all the context as to why. I’d start with asking those involved for context and their reasoning, where applicable.
This seems like an event where command is split on whether they should coup the captain, so my actions would depend on how the captain was acting.
HoS:
If the captain has done something absolutely rule breaking, it’s likely that HoS would not receive a punishment. Regardless, a reminder that command should vote before stripping captain of rank is advised. The fact that the HoP is in support helps HoS’ case.
HoP:
Even if the captain is being actively unfit for duty, the given circumstances seem to show that the situation is not dire enough where the HoP needs to arm, as the captain is hiding from a clown. More than likely I would just be reminding the HoP of this.
QM:
I know that the captain is hiding with the QM because the clown is a danger. Even if the captain has broken rules or is unfit for duty, I see no reason to punish the QM for protecting crew from death. It would be a different story if sec was actively being prevented access to the Captain by the QM, but I’ve not been given context saying so.
Clown:
It depends on what the Captain has done. It’s entirely possible that this is a result of reasonable escalation. The situation is bad enough where two command members want to coup the captain. It’s LRP, so I would be hard pressed to punish normal crew for not sitting back and letting sec handle it. However, it also depends on how and when the clown stole the sabre. It also depends if the clown is refusing to give up the sabre to sec. At best, I don’t see the need to do anything. At worst, this is blatant self-antag and it should be punished.
Captain:
If the captain has been breaking core rules and no admin was on at the time, ban. I would need to know how exactly the captain got from shift start, to being hunted by HoS and HoP, to hiding from a clown. It just doesn’t make sense. I don’t see many scenarios where the captain would get anything less than a roleban. But, it is possible that everyone besides the captain has overreacted over something small and is just being a shitter. Even if unlikely, I would make sure first.
Scenario 3
You are ahelping a player about an issue. The player has no prior noted issues. A few days earlier, an admin had told you that this type of situation should result in a temporary ban for a first offense, and you are confident that this situation is not substantially different from the type that admin was describing. During the ahelp, another admin pings you on Discord with a link to the ongoing ahelp and tells you to just indefinitely ban them and make them appeal. Excluding trialmins and headmins, all admins are equally “ranked”. A headmin is not currently available.
I’m assuming that I’m a trialmin in this scenario.
I’d message the Discord admin that another admin has told me otherwise. Without more proof that I should appeal ban, I would go for a temporary ban as it seems like the first admin and I have more situational context. The Discord admin was not in-round for either situation.
I don’t know exact ahelp policy, but if another admin wants to control how I handle a situation and it conflicts with what I’ve been told, they should probably just take over the ahelp.
