Okay, so the current way Secret (the gamemode) is set up makes it so over half of the time the gamemode is a traitor. Now don’t get me wrong; it’s a good gamemode, but it has become so, so, so repetitive to the point of me not even playing in the round if I don’t get a roundstart antag. Then I end up sitting as a ghost with the ghost roles up on my screen while I go on my phone or play another game.
Here is how I would make it more enjoyable:
Introduce a round cooldown so gamemodes cannot be played back-to-back or every 3 rounds even. Preferably just on traitor rounds but i could see it being used for all of them.
evening out the odds a whole lot more, Zeds, wizards and revs are all something like a 5-10% chance for each. Whereas traitors have a 55% chance, meaning more than half of the time it’s fucking traitors. At most it should be 40%; I’d prefer somewhere around 30%, though.
I just feel like adding one of or both of these options would make the game a lot more enjoyable. I hope some people agree.
Edit: I just want to clarify about antag rolling because people have interpreted what I said as antag rolling. which has led me to be banned on Wizden now after thousands of hours of playing, which I’m not even mad about. Like, if the admins are just going to ban me for something as little as that, I don’t think these servers are for me.
Anyway, relevant rules about antag rolling:
“Abandoning a role includes not completing tasks that the role is expected to do, in addition to things like leaving the game.”
and
“Enforcement of this rule is more strict for command and antagonist roles and less strict for less important roles like passengers.”
Every time I have done this, I have been a passenger. someone that has no job, no role, no responsibility, and, more importantly, it doesn’t take a job slot from anyone else. If there was a way to only queue for roundstart antags and become a ghost if I didn’t get them, then I’d be more than happy to do that.
to be honest i didnt know that was even a thing that applied to passengers… i have played the game so many times, done everything i can think of. if i wanted to play a job simulator i’d play a different game. 99% of the time when it’s traitor it has no impact on other crew members, unless a traitor has DAGD
they are meant to have impact on VERY specific crew members being their kill objectives or heads and their special items. you get the most interaction with them as sec.
Not only have you just outed yourself for antag rolling but you also just described a really selfish mindset of taking up a player slot for entire rounds sitting in ghost mode while you wait for a new round to start so you can again antag roll.
Did you not think someone else might want to actually just come on and enjoy the community aspect of the game and be a no name crew member doing thier job? This is main character syndrome, if you arent the big bad on the station then the game isnt worth playing. This is like the antithesis of what the game is about.
As an atmos tech and sci player. You don`t really need antags to enjoy RP experience.
Because following can happen
As atmos: Ooops i was experimenting with gas fusion, now half of station on fire and oxygen farm empty
As Sci: How should i know that arti would teleport into engi and break PA(Ilove Sci so much)
As Botanist: I made a plat that produce razorium and tritium gas, oops
As clown: Now everything is LUBED. He he he
As Engi: Asteroids decompress half the station, fortify, fortify, for… WHAT DO YOU MEAN PA EXPLODED?!(love this one too. Try rewiring half of station, while doing repairs)
And so, so much more shenanigans without antag even present. Damn i tried learning chemist and blew myself up with half of med.
And possibilities will only add up with updates.
P.S. I do a little of disobedience too, like if CE remove PA and say no singulo\tesla. I will buy new PA with some cargo RP and will do some gheto-tesla abomination with other engies in solars area. Then will spend entire shift building safe box for it.
And yes i know its “not needed”, but i don`t care. Me and this 1st time engine assistant gonna learn gheto-tesla and he will be the one starting it up. And then i will explain how setup SMES and powerstations to bypass bottleneck, building doors manually so you can setup access yourself, linking, why grills are important against rocks. And then show him how slip secs in arrest resistance and explain what lawyer do. When we are taken away
So many people do this on the server I play on, waiting for good ghost roles. It has nothing to do with “main character syndrome”? I’m saying that I have had enough of playing the game for its jobs and am more interested in the mechanics behind other parts of the game.
I have thousands of hours in the game, and it’s driven me to this point; if it wasn’t constantly the same round type, I’d stop voluntarily being a ghost.
Thanks, I’ll definitely play on there then. I avoided Goob, as I thought they only had MRP servers and no LRP, but I just looked, and they actually do. Think I’ve been playing the wrong servers the whole time, lol
yeah… my main character is a pacifist with 1,157 hours… If you get board of doing something set it to low for a bit, I rotate around Med, Sci, Botany, Atmos, HoP, Musician, Clown, Mime, and I dont find myself getting board of the game just certain roles for a bit.
Okay i now understand what I did was not allowed. But can you please tell me what purpose the rule serves? I dont see how what i am doing is negatively effecting anyone else who’s in the round. To everyone else in the round i am just going into cryogenic storage (as I almost never commit suicide).
We want to encourage people to play the game, not just antag simulator as CptJeanLuc said. If it was allowed, significantly more people may cryo/suicide at round start, reducing population and round quality for everyone else. This is an RP game, we want people to RP.
Also, when you aren’t a passenger, it is taking a job slot on roundstart that someone else who actually wanted to play the role could have taken.
One reason Lyroth001 also didn’t mention is it also helps combat Meta-play. If you ‘only’ play antag and ghost/cryo when you roll non-antag if you play enough you’ll get a reputation and sec will instantly know your an antag as you didn’t ghost.
While they cant legally meta-game your antag, if they already know your antag its more like finding the justifable reason IC to act on OOC knowellege.
Once you get over the need to be a goody two-shoes SecOff then basically almost every round becomes antag-lite, just that you shoot criminals/tiders instead of medbay. And when you have to deal with shitters who whine shitsec, just muzzle them, give them the max time you’re allowed and magdump them the moment they start breaking out of jail. It’s great.
And with the antag-before-jobs system now in place you’re still eligible for roundstart antags so you get the best of both worlds.
