Ban reason: (rule 2.9 here, character limit) - preparing enough "mini maxcaps" to remove a department for a single steal objective. This is in no way proportional to a single steal objective.
Length of ban: 10,080 minutes
Ban Issue:
What I was banned for is not against the rules
Vote Opt-Out: false
Events leading to the ban
(round #63936 on lizard)
please note that there is a lot of information and much of it is in the relevant ahelp
- i was a syndicate atmos with objectives to steal RD suit and kill a musician, though the second objective is irrelevant as it ended up accomplishing itself
- i decided to consider to make a “maxcap launcher shuttle” which was a project i had for a while and use it as a bomb threat to do my steal objective, then afterwards just use it to scare people without firing anything
i did not have DAGD, so why did i consider this acceptable under 2.9? short version: it would do approximately as much as a syndicate bomb does, but without any casualties (excepting people that would run towards danger), and i’ve not seen anyone, including myself, get into trouble for a non-DAGD syndicate bomb before
long version:
1) due to how explosions work, detonations on station exterior will largely veer off into space and deal comparatively little damage to the station
2) the recipe i was using already had a low explosive yield
3) therefore, i would have to use several bombs to deal damage beyond what ~2-3 c4 would do
4) due to the way this all works, i would have to fire a single bomb first which would be very unlikely to actually kill anyone, strip only the outer layer of walling, and would give everyone inside an opportunity to run away; therefore, the damage dealt by this would mostly be station damage
5) eventually the amount of station damage from this would amount to approximately what a syndicate bomb does, but without any of the related deaths
6) i’ve never seen anyone, including myself, get in trouble for a syndicate bomb, and as this does comparable or less damage as compared to a syndicate bomb, i considered this acceptable as well
i later (during the ahelp) realised that i have made a mistake here in not just ahelping to ask; however, as you see, the full story requires a rather lengthy explanation - i proceeded ahead with the plan by making the bombs and readying the shuttle components; afterwards, TurboTracker (?) interfered and prevented me from making the bombs
- i tried to “fight spookies”/“fight god” IC for comedy thinking i’d get an ahelp “if admins are serious about it”; i admit i’ve made a mistake here by not immediately ahelping to resolve the matter whether i am (not) allowed to do what i am doing, or, alternatively, by just stopping what i was doing
- i had a conversation in ahelp with TurboTracker trying to explain why i do not consider what i was doing as a rule 2.9 break
- closer to the start of said conversation, TurboTracker used the table smite on me which then gibbed me
Reason the ban should be removed
- i do not believe that what i was going to do was against rule 2.9, reasoning already explained above; however, i do realise that you have no way of (and neither did TurboTracker at the time) verifying my intent for what i was actually going to do in the future, so please read the below points for why i want you to consider this point valid
- after TurboTracker made it clear that what i am doing is no good, i planned to stop working on the project, but was given no opportunity to play in other ways due to the later table smite and ban; i believe there was a miscommunication on my part, in that i didn’t communicate this clearly enough and could be seen as refusing to stop the project; i understand i should try to avoid miscommunications of this kind in the future
- i have realised my mistakes, and i will attempt to ahelp if i am unsure of things in the future, to confirm that something is okay to do, or to resolve the matter if i think admins are against what i’m doing (regarding the part where i didn’t initially stop the project when faced with the IC response)
