Characters you play: Moffman Moffson
On average, how many hours do you expect to admin per week: roughly 10
Days you are available to admin on: On most weeks, all of them
How old are you? 24
Do you have any SS14 experience outside of Wizard’s Den servers, or any SS13 experience? I do not have any SS13/SS14 experiences outside of the wizden servers.
Do you have prior administration experience (SS13/SS14 experience preferred, please also post a way for us to verify this)? I don’t have any prior experience.
Have you ever been banned from any SS14 or SS13 servers? I have not been banned (role or general bans).
What are you primarily interested in doing as an admin? When it comes to admin-ing, I think I would most enjoy doing things to help both new and experienced players have a better experience when playing SS14. Obviously events are included, but even just being there for Ahelp would be something I would be interested in.
Like I said above, helping new players would be something that I would love to do if I were an admin. It could be teaching them about certain game mechanics or just helping them figure something out that they can’t crack themselves.
Obviously sorting out issues is also included when it comes to helping players, new or old. I think, when admin-ing, I would be interesting in making sure the round continues without any player stalling or rule breaking.
What are you least interested in doing as an admin? I can’t really think of anything I’d not like doing as an admin.
Detail Questions
What role do you think game admins serve on our servers?
Obviously admins should administrate. They should deal with raiders, rule-breakers, and all-around bad characters. These people make the game unfun, and admins should help players continue having fun with the game.
Of course, you can’t talk about admins without mentioning admemes/events. They spice the game up and help keep players interesting, especially if its a new mechanic/item/mob/etc. I think one of the most important and main roles the admins play is to keep players entertained or engaged in the game, whether that be with these admemes or dealing with rulebreakers.
Why do you want to become an administrator for SS14?
I only recently realized that admin applications are open, so I decided to give it a shot. I love the game, and it definitely scratches an itch that barely anything else can. I’ve also tried to start contributing to the game, mainly with new content that I think will enrich the experience of players throughout the station or in a role. I’ve yet to PR it, but that’s mainly cause I’m bad at art.
With admin-ing, I see a surefire way of helping the player’s experience without having to use what little skills I have programming-wise
How do you feel about the current roleplay status on the servers?
While I enjoy roleplay, I enjoy LRP more than MRP. I think that you should act as if you are in the role you choose, but you can interject your own personality within your character. Not saying anything against the MRP server or MRP players, but I’m just not one of them.
The roleplay status of the wizden servers is pretty good I would say. On LRP, its less strict but its still encouraged to roleplay, and from my small amount of experience on MRP, its more strict that LRP but the players seem to enjoy it.
Other than banning problematic players, what admin actions do you believe have the biggest positive impact?
Other than banning problem players, the admin action that has the most positive impact on the player experience is easily Ahelp. Just the ability to help people that are stuck or unsure what to do in a certain situation gives the player such a better experience, allowing them to progress and continue having fun with the game.
Another action that I think has a large positive impact is the role of the admin to allow the round to progress. For example, during a Nukie round, if the nuke code was lost or the Nukie shuttle was stolen, an admin should step in to progress the round so players on both sides could continue having fun.
Have you ever had a negative experience in the game or with a game admin? If so what, if anything, would you do to prevent other players from experiencing this?
I have yet to have any negative experiences with a game admin.
Have you ever had a good experience with the game or a game admin? If so, what was it?
Like I said above, all my experiences with game admins were good. My main experiences were during various admemes/events that an admin had set up. I have also used Ahelp whenever I get stuck, but I try to use it as a last resort or in the case that no player around me had enough experience to teach me. Also the whole reason I started trying to contribute to the game’s codebase is because I saw some very interesting ideas that some admins gave me.
Scenario Questions
Scenario 1
It is the start of the round. There are 60 players on the server. The game mode is traitors, traitors have not been selected yet. There are three players who decided to observe the round instead of join it orbiting you. Two of them are encouraging you to “do something funny”.
I would say something along the lines of “The round just started, nothing’s had a chance to pop off.” Because the events of the round have yet to transpire, intervention shouldn’t be advised as that could ruin the progression of the round.
The only way I would interfere is if the round starts getting stalled by something/someone, or if the round goes awry due to some event or person.
Scenario 2
This scenario takes place on LRP. The Head of Security has decided to coup the Captain. The Head of Personnel agrees with the Head of Security and has taken up arms in case it is necessary to aid in effecting the arrest of the Captain. The Captain is hiding with the Quartermaster in the cargo shuttle to avoid the Clown who has stolen the captains saber as a non-antag. There are five people named in this scenario. Please describe what actions, if any, you would take in relation to each, and why.
The first problem to tackle is the clown self-antagging. This is because it looks to be the quickest problem to solve. On LRP, If the clown is just doing normal clown hijinks and not causing chaos, it would just be best to continue keeping an eye on them in case they start to cause chaos. Currently, this is a minor problem that should be solved through security. If the clown is causing chaos, It would be best to warn the clown and take away the saber.
When it comes to the HoS’s and the HoP’s behavior, it really depends on the reasons why they staged the coup. If the captain was actively harming the player experience/the round, he should be replaced by another member of command. If the coup was staged for no reason, the HoS and the HoP should first be warned that their behavior is not command-like, and they should stop the coup. If they continue with their self-antagging, I would take away any weapons they possessed. Finally, if they persist, they should be round-removed. Obviously round-removal of a command member should be the last resort. Also, if the HoS and the HoP do listen at any point before round-removal, I will contact the captain to say that he can return to the station. The QM in this situation should be treated as a bystander, as he isn’t doing anything warranting a warning or more severe actions.
An admin can also spin this as a fun event if the HoS and the HoP were not to listen. An ERT group could be admin-ed in providing any spectators a fun way of dealing with a problem. The goals of the ERT could be to “save the captain from the threats to their life” and/or “capture or kill the Head of Security and Head of Personnel.”
After the round ends, depending on the actions taken by the HoS and the HoP, a punishment should be levied accordingly (if they were in the wrong, ofc). If they listened and stopped the coup, they could get off with just a warning. If they don’t listen at any point during the round, a roleban for a medium duration should be pursued. If they stop the coup after the first warning but before being round-removed, a punishment between the two ends should be levied (like a brief roleban).
Scenario 3
You are ahelping a player about an issue. The player has no prior noted issues. A few days earlier, an admin had told you that this type of situation should result in a temporary ban for a first offense, and you are confident that this situation is not substantially different from the type that admin was describing. During the ahelp, another admin pings you on Discord with a link to the ongoing ahelp and tells you to just indefinitely ban them and make them appeal. Excluding trialmins and headmins, all admins are equally “ranked”. A headmin is not currently available.
Because I am the one currently Ahelping the player, I have the final say with their sentence due to the unavailability of the headmins. I would want to ask why the admin who dmed me thinks the player should get the indefinite ban with appeal to understand their reasoning. I would, however, most likely just agree with what I was told by the previous admin as the two situations seemed very similar. Whenever a headmin becomes available, I would want to explain the situation to them and to see if my choice was the right course of action. I would also bring up the alternative solution and ask if the other admin was in the right or wrong.
