In-game Username: jargn
Discord username: Scented_dead_flowers
Characters you play: Jack Jargn, Titch Dubois
On average, how many hours do you expect to admin per week: 4-6
Days you are available to admin on: Mon-wensday, but I can provide others if needed
How old are you? 20
Do you have any SS14 experience outside of Wizard’s Den servers, or any SS13 experience? Ive played for a bit on goob, mostly for the sake of being an NTR, but I much prefer the community in wizden
Do you have prior administration experience (SS13/SS14 experience preferred, please also post a way for us to verify this)? Ive done a few things here and there, but its mostly just been filling in for friends when theyve had to take month long hiatuses and whatnot, but nothing to the point where I can site something as reference
Have you ever been banned from any SS14 or SS13 servers? Never, I have had a slap on the wrist for misunderstanding a situation when I was extremely new
I had thought someone wearing blood red was a nukie so I gibbed em, this happened when I had a 15 hours in the game total
What are you primarily interested in doing as an admin? Mostly handling situations of small-medium (specifically meta shield wise) proportions, generally peace keeping is something I enjoy, I do have a hard time being harsh but I like to believe when the situation calls for it I can pull through.
I primarily play on lizard, so I want to try and reduce the amount of easily avoidable situations, specifically pertaining to security, i.e meta breaking via checking if something are chameleons or not, I personally believe the meta shield is the most important thing to maintain in gameplay.
In addition I really want to murder raiders.
What are you least interested in doing as an admin? Interpersonal conflict that spans over meta, i.e Urist really hates Uriel because he valid hunted him 4 rounds ago, so he does everything he can to gib them once he rolls antag again.
Generally I feel when actual, real spite kicks in, not temporary annoyances, just actual distain, I feel like its best for them to talk it out in private, or at the last actively avoid eachother as much as humanly possible within gameplay.
It is a video game, it should never be the host for real strife.
Detail Questions
What role do you think game admins serve on our servers?
Generally speaking? To provide the final say on matters and make sure the rhetorical machine runs well.
To elaborate on what I mean, space station is alot of moving parts so there are times where people will get too caught up in the flow.
Admins regulate it to make sure people dont go and blow up an entire department because they need one item thats completely unrelated. I.e I blew up sci because I need the cmos crew monitor.
But this can also be circumvented, i.e I blew up sci to draw out the HOS so I can ambush him.
There is alot of different ways situations can be cut, everybody has their own judgement, so the admins are there to provide a more moderated tempered understanding as they arent playing themself.
This provides a much more coolheaded view of a situation as you arent so stuck in the story your making for yourself in that round.
Why do you want to become an administrator for SS14?
Nothing too grand, I just feel like helping nourish a game thats captivated me in recent times and since I dont know how to code, I feel I can put my skills best to work in a position like this.
How do you feel about the current roleplay status on the servers?
I personally feel Lizard is perfectly fine on LRP.
In addition MRP on Salamander is extremely fun, if I wasnt so nervous to try and integrate I would be in there more often!
I dont know much about Leviathan nor Vulture because of how badly I lag in them typically.
But I feel roleplay is the essence of what makes ss14 so fun.
I do think itd be nice for there to be an lrp+ where its slightly more resticted than lrp but its more firm on certain things to encourage entertaining gameplay through fun rp.
Other than banning problematic players, what admin actions do you believe have the biggest positive impact?
Being understanding.
Empathy for a persons mindset at time of situation I find is the most important.
“They made a mistake but its because of x/y thing going on, so I am going to reduce it to just a 3 day ban for them to cool off and relax.”
If somebody has fucked up big time and gibbed a random person as a syndie after they witnessed a murder, I feel its best to break down why they did that?
Are they not fully familar with antag rules?
Are they an extremely nervous person who tends to jump to extremes when stressed?
Do they believe thats how it should operate?
Each of these bring a different light to the situation and with it, a different way for it to be handled.
Pathos is key.
Have you ever had a negative experience in the game or with a game admin? If so what, if anything, would you do to prevent other players from experiencing this?
I was playing as HOS, the HOP had hired someone onto sec who I didnt give the okay on, in addition I didnt get to screen him, first I heard of him was the start of the situation.
There was an occasion in which I had been put in the middle of an extremely rough situation, I was dealing with a syndie interrogation that only I could do for the simple reason that nobody else had the knowledge of the full scenario but one of my officers had been transphobic. (Joe Schmo to be specific)
The victim was understandably very very upset.
I told the guy that it was gross to misgender someone and went to wrap up the syndie situation real quick, afterwards the victim had begun to demand I do it that instant accusing me of agreeing with him and just wanting to let him off the hook.
This went on for 5 minutes, of me saying “please let me wrap this up and I will demote him.”
I fully intended to do so because outside of his gross conduct, he was also an extremely shit officer, demanding a search on green and arrested when declined, he stunned them ans hauled em to jail.
So I had to take a step back to recompose myself as I was starting to become extremely panicked.
I step away for 3 minutes to take a moment to myself and then handle it, I then get boinged because the victim had pointed the admin to me.
The sec force and lawyer beat her to death.
The admin put all the blame onto me, treating me like I was the one to do everything mentioned.
Afterwards I had a full blown panic attack and was no longer capable of handling any situation.
She kept blaming me, the adming kept blaming me, I kept blaming me, so I just kinda cracked, so for the rest of the match I was just completely non functional.
A dragon showed up so I tried to kill it but everything felt so hazy I couldnt focus anymore.
Afterwards I just got in bed and layed face down on the pillow for 3 hours.
The admin didnt warn me or anything and I know for the future if anything similar happens I will just shoot the Joe Schmoe (that was his name) and then ahelp, but it was very very early into my gameplay, my third hos round.
I really do not feel the admin tried to understand what was happening with me in the situation, I was not blameless but I was not the one who caused it nor did I try to protect it, I wanted to resolve it but I was still learning so I choked extremely hard and for it, I was treated as a direct contributor.
Have you ever had a good experience with the game or a game admin? If so, what was it?
There was a detective who broke the meta shield, she had begun screaming at me (hop) and Irvine Reid (god of lawyers) saying we ruined her round alongside her day with our “meta gaming bullshit” and how shes gonna ahelp us in looc.
She than ran out and cryosleeped, the admin askes for the specifics rather than jumping to conclusions and ended up understanding we werent bullying her, she was just breaking the rules.
It was overall very pleasant.
Assuming we are counting admemes, two come to mind that I look back on very fondly.
On Convex, I was trying to announce something but the machine just didnt work properly for some reason, the admin was confusing it for the typing bug but after trying it themself, they got extremely confused because it was broken as hell.
After a good chunk of trial and error, they said “try now?” To which I got on and just picked a word at random.
“Cock”
Afterwards I was forcibly made into a cat boy with most accents.
I then had to drink 20000 units of weh juice but the hos broke it.
Still one of my favorite rounds.
That or the “plot twist round”
The admin hosted a poll, it succeeded, I was playing captain at the time so they said “wanna be the plot twist?”
They then made me a loneop.
I tried to treat it as more of a performance than a battle afterwards, leveraging the fact that im captain and whatnot.
It was an extremely fun and unique moment.
Scenario Questions
Scenario 1
It is the start of the round. There are 60 players on the server. The game mode is traitors, traitors have not been selected yet. There are three players who decided to observe the round instead of join it orbiting you. Two of them are encouraging you to “do something funny”.
Well this depends on a few key factors, chief of which being “do I feel like I can actually think of something funny?”
If no, I just decline and move on, if yes I will do a little something like randomly putting cat ears in the bridge whilst some heads are talking.
Just right infront of them without any subtlety.
But nothing too disruptive like “Bokay, lets make everybody traitors!”
Stuff like that is best decided in the pregame lobby with a poll.
I feel like in the middle of the round itd be okay to host a poll asking “summon Gilgamesh? The first hero?” Or something mild.
The goal of something funny isnt to disrupt the entire round, just a little “hehe, okay that was funny…”
I do not know the situations of everyone in the lobby, what if a person finally rolled captain, its been god knows how long and they can only cram in a match a week or so.
If I did something like “okay lets kill this guy in particular”, that would completely shit on their free time.
This is assuming its Lizard, if its Salamander I would just outright decline, that or say “okay check this shit out” and just act like I normally would.
Scenario 2
This scenario takes place on LRP. The Head of Security has decided to coup the Captain. The Head of Personnel agrees with the Head of Security and has taken up arms in case it is necessary to aid in effecting the arrest of the Captain. The Captain is hiding with the Quartermaster in the cargo shuttle to avoid the Clown who has stolen the captains saber as a non-antag. There are five people named in this scenario. Please describe what actions, if any, you would take in relation to each, and why.
Well first I would get to the root of the situation.
Did the captain actually fuck up?
I.e did they gib a passenger for slipping him?
If so, I feel like that would be a fun in character way for it to be resolved, depending on how the quartermaster acts is what determines my next actions.
If they start gearing up their cargo techs, thats when I go “okay, no.” And actually step in.
If he doesnt and instead opts to simply hide the captain I would ask him why.
Did they not know what they did, does he feel this is too far for gibbing a passenger, etc.
Lets assume he starts arming the lads in this case.
I would call code epsilon assuming they are uncooperative with me asking them to de-escalate.
Now lets say they just didnt know what the captain did.
I would let it play out a bit more, assuming the captain is arrested I would role ban him for a proper amount of time after the game is over.
Additionally, I would ask the HOP if they would like me to reopen the captain slot or if theyd prefer for me to instead let them take over for the rest of the game.
Now lets put it on the flipside.
The HOP and HOS are just doing this because they disagree with the captains style.
Maybe their too lax, maybe their too strict.
For this I would tell them to cease. Assuming they dont and actually go through with it, I would send in an ERT to help detain the rogue HOS and HOP. Afterwards they would get a HEFTY roleban.
I feel itd be unforgivable to do this simply because of personality strife.
This is all assuming they have a spare shuttle or something to actually reach the cargo shuttle.
If there is no way for this to be handled in game, I gotta step in immediately unconditionally.
As for the clown, it honestly depends.
But judging by the wording, its very clear they were attacking them.
It is completely irrelevant to the situation as the clown isnt security.
Additionally it depends on if sec could handle the clown or not.
If the clown is just killin people for no reason or just generally being a menace, thats where I feel the line is drawn, if the players cannot handle someone self antaging, it falls to me.
But if they are just bein a little ass bastard its up to sec.
It isn’t the job of an admin to replace sec.
So long as they don’t start to randomly attack passengers and whatnot.
Scenario 3
You are ahelping a player about an issue. The player has no prior noted issues. A few days earlier, an admin had told you that this type of situation should result in a temporary ban for a first offense, and you are confident that this situation is not substantially different from the type that admin was describing. During the ahelp, another admin pings you on Discord with a link to the ongoing ahelp and tells you to just indefinitely ban them and make them appeal. Excluding trialmins and headmins, all admins are equally “ranked”. A headmin is not currently available.
I would ask them to elaborate on why this is different to the one I was told about.
Once I understand it what they mean, I would explain my point of view on the topic, whether it be “Ah, alright. On it boss man!” Or “I really do not feel like thats right.” In which case I would do it the way they suggested and then talk to other admins later to further my understanding.
If I still dont feel like it was right, I would discuss it with the head admins and ask further about it.
Overall, I would be inexperienced so I wouldnt be able to have a full say on it without it being extremely tainted by personal bias and lack of experience.
