In-game Username: kentagon
Discord username: kentagon_
Characters you play: Solan Sigil, Alex Mahone

On average, how many hours do you expect to admin per week: 15-25

Days you are available to admin on: All days of the week

How old are you? 18

Do you have any SS14 experience outside of Wizard’s Den servers, or any SS13 experience? I’ve invested a couple dozen hours into RMC, but not really. Wizards den is where I spend the majority of my time on.

Do you have prior administration experience (SS13/SS14 experience preferred, please also post a way for us to verify this)? I have no prior experience in space station administration.

Have you ever been banned from any SS14 or SS13 servers? Yes, I was banned from wizards den in April or so because I was grey tiding, I appealed and got unbanned a month later. Since then I have taken roleplaying more seriously, and have been attempting to follow the rules as best as I can.

What are you primarily interested in doing as an admin? I am most interested in ban appeals and out of game rule enforcement, however I would spend lots of time doing in game rule enforcement as well. Ban appeals would probably be what I spend most of my time on, I enjoy sorting out those kinds of things and it makes me feel good that I could be helping people by doing so.

What are you least interested in doing as an admin? Probably in game events, I am not a good host of those and I much prefer being in the background assisting people with administrative issues.

Detail Questions

What role do you think game admins serve on our servers?

Game admins work as central command to make rounds more interesting, as well as weeding out people that make others experience worse. They exist to answer the questions of new players, and to clear up confusion people have. Most importantly they exist to serve the player base and positively benefit their experience.

Why do you want to become an administrator for SS14?

I am a big fan of space station 14 and have been hooked on it since I started playing it in January, so first and foremost I see it as a way I can volunteer to help the player base. I also see it as an opportunity to integrate myself into the community more, and to further get to know the people I play with. Finally, I want to become an administrator because it seems like I’d have fun doing it.

How do you feel about the current roleplay status on the servers?

I think there are some bad apples in an overall good community. In my opinion, you get what you expect. LRP servers are a more casual experience where you aren’t as expected to play a character, while in MRP things are taken more seriously, and people act differently. It is definitely a different experience for different players and different moods.

Other than banning problematic players, what admin actions do you believe have the biggest positive impact?

Quickly responding to Ahelps to clear confusion and allow for smoother round progress, additionally answering distress calls from the red phones and acting as centcomm in general.

Have you ever had a negative experience in the game or with a game admin? If so what, if anything, would you do to prevent other players from experiencing this?

I have never had a bad experience with a game admin, everyone has been nice and helpful, and issues are quickly sorted out. A major thing I believe in is player advocacy, which is putting yourself in the shoes of the player, and thinking about how you are received. I would be to the point, and nice to ensure I do not come off in a poor manner. If I heard someone had a bad experience with another admin, I may talk to them about it. and mitigate the situation.

Have you ever had a good experience with the game or a game admin? If so, what was it?

At one point when I was newer at captain, the power was out and the station was in disarray. I wasn’t sure how to end the round and proceed. While I tried to find a generator, an admin message appeared. He said something along the lines of “HINT: The red phone can be used for emergencies to call for help”. I used the red phone and requested evac and then he instantly called it for me. With no contempt of me not knowing, and in a nice manner he told me how I could finish the round; which benefitted everyone playing at the time, as well as teaching me how to be a better command player.

Scenario Questions

Scenario 1

It is the start of the round. There are 60 players on the server. The game mode is traitors, traitors have not been selected yet. There are three players who decided to observe the round instead of join it orbiting you. Two of them are encouraging you to “do something funny”.

In this situation I would either apologize and say that I wouldn’t do anything, or I would spawn in some ghost roles for them to play as.

Scenario 2

This scenario takes place on LRP. The Head of Security has decided to coup the Captain. The Head of Personnel agrees with the Head of Security and has taken up arms in case it is necessary to aid in effecting the arrest of the Captain. The Captain is hiding with the Quartermaster in the cargo shuttle to avoid the Clown who has stolen the captains saber as a non-antag. There are five people named in this scenario. Please describe what actions, if any, you would take in relation to each, and why.

I would first look at the captain, and see if they broke any server rules. I would not contact the quartermaster if they didn’t break any rules. If I did not witness the entire event, I would contact the HoS or HoP and ask them for their side of the story, as well as the captain to see what they have to say. Finally, I would request that the clown returns the saber to security, as they shouldnt have it as a non antag.

Scenario 3

You are ahelping a player about an issue. The player has no prior noted issues. A few days earlier, an admin had told you that this type of situation should result in a temporary ban for a first offense, and you are confident that this situation is not substantially different from the type that admin was describing. During the ahelp, another admin pings you on Discord with a link to the ongoing ahelp and tells you to just indefinitely ban them and make them appeal. Excluding trialmins and headmins, all admins are equally “ranked”. A headmin is not currently available.

I would not ban the player without elaboration from the admin as to why they believe it should be a perm ban. I would first tell them that another admin told me differently, and request more information as to why they think otherwise. I would mention they have no prior issues and that in most situations we shouldn’t jump to perm banning players on the spot. If they acted in their own volition, I would dm a headmin and ask them for clarification to resolve the situation.
