Events leading to the ban
I was a passenger, Asuria Glimmersen, which was at a bar with three other friends. We were chatting about diverse topics, until one of us proposed to play “Truth or dare”.
So, we each took turns, playing said “truth or dare” game, and eventually dared one of us to kiss another on the cheek, which eventually happened, the other characters treating it in a playful way, teasing the embarrassed character which just did the dare.
Now, this was honestly not going to go any further, as our characters stuck to really mild truths or dares (And also because i actively try to respect rules), we just roleplayed as our characters and didn’t think it was going to offend / shock anyone.
Reason the ban should be removed
So, i did not put an appeal right away. Why ? I had time to think. About what was done wrong, what could’ve been done better, and how i could improve. Also, it’s better to not write an appeal immediately, in order to calm down and all.
Anyways, i always tried to be a “clean” player, respecting the rules, trying to be as good as i can IC, but also OOC. I think this ban too harsh, but it also scares me a lot – I’ll go back on that point later.
In my opinion, what we did was not ERP, but i can totally get why it falls under this rule, as it states that “Things that appear to be intended to or are likely to disturb players out of character are considered shock content and are not allowed.”. After thinking, i guess this is the rule that has technically been broken, and thus, i understand why i was sanctioned.
Now, about the sanction itself, it seems really harsh, and counter-productive, for a few reasons.
First of all, i never went against an admin decision, merely trying to understand it – And even there, this will be the case. Even if the appeal ends up in me not getting unbanned, i merely wish to understand this better, in order to not reproduce this.
The thing is, the admin message that explained me the ban reason told me that we did some “borderline erotic” roleplay, which made other players uncomfortable.
In my opinion, what we did was not borderline erotic roleplay, as the boldest thing that has been done is having an embarrassed character kiss another, on the cheek.
But, making other players uncomfortable is not okay, and i totally agree with that.
Now, as a player, i did not have any opportunity to explain myself, talk about it, or even know i made someone uncomfortable. This is why i really think a temporary ban, a warn, or even just chatting about it would’ve been a better option, as it would’ve helped me understand, adapt my comportement, or even flat out stop what i was currently doing. In my opinion, what we did isn’t fundamentally wrong, but the fact we did it in a crowded area can be, as not everyone is comfortable with everything, and I apologize for that. I thought it was soft enough for people that are at least 16 years old, but that was a lapse of judgement on my part.
It is on that note that i’d like to express my wish to have a second chance, and would really like, if it happens another time, to be warned about it, or have an opportunity to talk about it before being straight-up banned, as i don’t have any bad intentions towards the server, nor their rules. I spent a lot of hours on that server, met a lot of people, and it’d be a shame to just lose it all over a simple mistake, like this one.
It really feels like the type of thing that could be solved by just exchanging a few words, instead of relying on heavy sentences like this one, but then again, not all players have good intentions, so… I can totally get that, too.
