In-game Username: Killerqu00
Discord username: Killerqu00
Characters you play: Stelle Stellar, Valerie Plasmith, John Gray
On average, how many hours do you expect to admin per week: 10-12
Days you are available to admin on: Ideally every day in some form (game or discord), but I am active the most at friday-sunday.
How old are you? 20
Do you have any SS14 experience outside of Wizard’s Den servers, or any SS13 experience? Zero experience with SS13. I do play other servers, mainly Cosmatic Drift and Axolotl MRP.
Do you have prior administration experience (SS13/SS14 experience preferred, please also post a way for us to verify this)? I don’t have prior experience with SS14 administration.
I had prior experience being an administrator of whitelist-only russian Minecraft server Jellycraft (currently closed). I was mainly doing in-game events and maintaining social media. I can provide proof via links/screenshots if needed; I am also stated as the issuer of bans on the server website (still up at the moment of writing).
Have you ever been banned from any SS14 or SS13 servers? No.
What are you primarily interested in doing as an admin? I am mostly interested in resolving player AHelps without issuing punishments, when possible. I am also looking forward to handling in-game events and ban appeals, since my prior administration experience involved these tasks.
What are you least interested in doing as an admin? Dealing with raiders/griefers is my least favorite task. I also don’t usually like dealing with players that start unneccessary drama, although it highly depends on specific cases.
Detail Questions
What role do you think game admins serve on our servers?
Admins are curating the experience of regular players, making sure that it doesn’t bring any harm or ruin the enjoyment of other players. It does not always involve punishment, since sometimes players break the rules unknowingly. In that case, admins are doing the job of explaining the rules to other players, as well as why these rules are in place and what kind of undesirable situations these rules aim to prevent.
Why do you want to become an administrator for SS14?
I enjoy this game a lot, and good administration always develops the game further. I have also heard that most of the WizDen’s current admin team is burnt out and overwhelmed by current player load; I would like to help with that to the best of my abilities.
How do you feel about the current roleplay status on the servers?
As a regular player of Salamander, I think that current state of roleplay is highly dependant on pure luck. Sometimes you get players that wish to roleplay; sometimes the experience gets ruined because of rule breaking from other players. However, when that doesn’t happen, I really enjoy the roleplay.
Other than banning problematic players, what admin actions do you believe have the biggest positive impact?
One of the best skills of an admin is to resolve the situation peacefully. Lots of player conflict comes from misunderstandings between the players; situations like these may require admin intervention in order to de-escalate and clarify what exactly happened. In best-case scenario, that means that the issue between the players resolves by itself, which leaves everyone satisfied.
Have you ever had a negative experience in the game or with a game admin? If so what, if anything, would you do to prevent other players from experiencing this?
I think that some of the game rules and the way they are actually enforced do not match up. While I do mostly agree with admin’s decision, this results in lots of confusion and misunderstanding from players, because some offenses are not stated in the rules clearly. As a game admin, I believe I could advocate for a better version of these rules, as well as explain them to the players in a way that clears up most of the problems.
Have you ever had a good experience with the game or a game admin? If so, what was it?
I think that a lot of game admins clear up misunderstandings in the rules very well, especially in Discord. I also had only good interactions with them in AHelps.
There are too many good experiences with the game; I’m just glad to be a part of a pretty good game community.
Scenario Questions
Scenario 1
It is the start of the round. There are 60 players on the server. The game mode is traitors, traitors have not been selected yet. There are three players who decided to observe the round instead of join it orbiting you. Two of them are encouraging you to “do something funny”.
I would most likely ignore the request. The round has already started, meaning it’s too late for major events; therefore, I would just proceed with normal round administration and only consider events further into the round, depending on circumstances.
Scenario 2
This scenario takes place on LRP. The Head of Security has decided to coup the Captain. The Head of Personnel agrees with the Head of Security and has taken up arms in case it is necessary to aid in effecting the arrest of the Captain. The Captain is hiding with the Quartermaster in the cargo shuttle to avoid the Clown who has stolen the captains saber as a non-antag. There are five people named in this scenario. Please describe what actions, if any, you would take in relation to each, and why.
First of all, I would ask the HoS and HoP about their reasons for starting the coup; there is a chance that captain’s actions that were not mentioned have warranted that response from HoP and HoS. At the same time, I would ask the clown about their reasons to steal the sabre and, possibly, threaten captain with it (it was not mentioned, but is implied due to captain actively hiding from the clown). Depending on the urgency of the situation, I would also question the captain to get their point of view.
Based on the answers, I would take following actions:
- I evaluate the reasons for a coup that HoP and HoS gave me. I would also consider attempts to deescalate the situation and prior offenses of HoP, HoS and captain.
- If there was no valid reasons to coup the captain, both HoS and HoP have broken the rule of subordination, which would result in a note and job ban from command/command + security.
- If there was a valid reason to coup the captain, I would further question captain about it. Then I would confirm all the information with logging tools; depending on the outcome, captain may or may not be incompetent and therefore not following the higher standards that command must follow. If the incompetency took case, then my actions depend on the severity; this might lead to a note, a job ban or even a game ban.
- Unless clown gives a reason for stealing the saber as non-antag or clears up some misunderstanding in the situation, I would issue a note for self-antagonism. If they were also trying to harm crew using the saber, I would also issue a game ban for the same reason.
- Quartermaster seems to be mostly a third-party in that case, trying to save the captain. Therefore, unless there is something else to this situation, I would not issue any warnings, notes or bans.
Scenario 3
You are ahelping a player about an issue. The player has no prior noted issues. A few days earlier, an admin had told you that this type of situation should result in a temporary ban for a first offense, and you are confident that this situation is not substantially different from the type that admin was describing. During the ahelp, another admin pings you on Discord with a link to the ongoing ahelp and tells you to just indefinitely ban them and make them appeal. Excluding trialmins and headmins, all admins are equally “ranked”. A headmin is not currently available.
I would definitely ask the second admin to explain why they want to ban the person. Since the issue seems to be a medium offense that warrants a temporary ban on first offense, there is no need to overescalate. If second admin provides me with some important reasoning (such as, for example, prior experience with the player that is not logged in notes) or the player refused to cooperate (insults in the AHelp, for example), I would place an indefinite ban. Otherwise, I would place the same punishment as discussed with the first admin.
