Ban reason: Vulture 76003. Failure to Follow Silicon Laws. Allowed RD to change Laws with Little to no resistance. this has been upgraded to an indefinite ban due to lying to an admin and evading ahelp...
Length of ban: Indefinite
Ban Issue:
I did not do what I was banned for

Events leading to the ban

The RD had requested I speak to them, they asked me if I wanted my laws changed, I SPECIFICALLY quoted the rule “I cannot request my laws be changed” and RD’s reply was “what if I did it anyways”. To this hypothetic request, I stated “One that keeps crew safety a priority” OOC this was in the hopes he wouldn’t bother upon hearing that, IC it is my current first law, and all my logic was based around that.

A while later RD came to my substation, attached to the side of the station proper, and demanded to be let in, and before I had even started unbolting doors, they were pulling out a screwdriver to hack their way in, but I unbolted the doors and allowed them entry, and watched as they wandered around my area. This being the only station I’ve experienced where the laws console was not actually there, but was in the bridge. Rd demanded I open a door to my power substation, which I denied because there was a clown spider in there, and while I was typing that, they were pulling out the materials to start hacking. They never actually started hacking open any doors, but their intent was very clear to me on an OOC level

I volunteer the location of where the law console is because I felt they might attempt to hack open that sub station and get attacked by the clown spider, and because RD is my boss, on an OOC level, I didn’t think RD changing my laws was that big of a deal.

They take the chute out, get stuck in a wall and get saved by some atmos techs, then the next I see of them, they have changed my laws. I put my new laws out on Common because I do that any time my laws get changed (It happens all the time, usually without me even knowing Cap’s decided to do so)

Then the admin messages me and spends twenty minutes fishing for a reason to get mad. I cannot stress enough that they did not gather evidence BEFORE contacting me, they contacted me and went through the logs, and kept going “But you did THIS!” This repeated several times before I got annoyed and logged off.

Reason the ban should be removed

First: I did not break my silicon laws. At any point. I infact tried very hard to follow them, the admin got mad at me for not following the RULE about my requesting my laws be changed. they did not bring up to me ONCE that I broke my laws.

Two: I directly told RD I cannot request a law change, which the admin agreed I said when they went over the logs

Three: I did not lie at all during that conversation, I infact volunteered info several times without prompting to try and clear up the misunderstanding.

Four: “Your role is AI, you answer directly to Research Director, special circumstances may change this” Is stated at round start when you are selected as the AI. I didn’t even think that mattered because I never requested that he changed my laws at all. I figured that the RD going rogue was a problem for RD, not for the AI they went rogue on and changed the law of

Five: I left because i was tired of the admin harassing me for ten to fifteen minutes, not really coming up with any reason to be mad at me. It felt like a case of “Guilty until proven innocent” Despite me pointing out, several times, i did not ask RD to change my laws. At one point, I directed them to the console where they COULD change my laws, because they were gonna start cutting open doors to find said console.

Six: I believe that on an IC level, I did the best I could. AIs could only use LOOC if the person was right on top of their… Screen? Computer? Computer. and by the time the RD had gotten there, they had made it QUITE apparent that my consent was not on their priority list. The RD had decided to change my laws before I had even spoken to them on the subject. I am unclear on how someone else not playing their role is a bannable offense for me.

Seven: I understand that I should not have left during the conversation, but as I stated in point five, I felt I was being harrassed, NOT disiplined. The admin seems to have gotten “Cannot request laws be changed” with “Cannot ALLOW laws be changed”, and when I last checked, the rule stated “Request”.

In summary: I do not believe the admin knew what their job expected of them, and were over enforcing a rule. I never once asked for my laws to be changed, I expressly told RD that I could not. The RD had access to every door to do this themselves, I actually kept several doors bolted from RD to protect them from a clown spider because that is one of my laws. I genuinely feel the admin wasn’t coming at me because I had done something wrong, but because they were having an off day, or were pissed off by the fact my laws were changed. I have also had my laws changed on me several times before and never had an admin jump down my throat for it, though those always were done by captains who made no attempt to contact me before hand, simply surprising me with a law change.

I love this game, genuinely. The chaos is wonderful, and as AI, I get to watch it all unfold while still being able to PLAY instead of watch, without worrying about getting merc’d in maints some where. I genuinely think if another admin goes over the logs, they will find this admin to have been overly aggressive and have jumped the gun, BUT IF NOT, then I guess I really don’t understand why I got banned

Reading the ahelp and reading your reasoning I can see why there was some miscommunication

I got to say however that you answering: “One that keeps crew safety a priority” could very well be interpreted as a invitation to change your laws, even more combined with telling RD where the law upload computer was. You should have not answered that and only told RD the location of the upload computer if they asked. and bolting those doors upon seeing them approach the AI upload or ask where it is. If they started hacking, either cut power or do nothing, don’t open for them

Next time. be known that disconnecting mid ahelp can only make things worse. I would suggest saying something like: “I am tired of explaining myself, can we finish this?” or at least something like that instead of disconnecting

Given that you don’t have previous warnings and mostly a clean history I am choosing to accept this appeal and remove the ban.

Added appeal-accepted and removed appeal-pending

Thank you very much. I will keep that in mind in the future.
