Do you have any SS14 experience outside of Wizard’s Den servers, or any SS13 experience? I have tried to branch out and play on servers like Trieste, Goobstation, Starlight, and Rouny’s Marine Corps.
Do you have prior administration experience (SS13/SS14 experience preferred, please also post a way for us to verify this)? I help my friend run their own server with around 100+ members, and I have worked with spreadsheets for game communities before as an administrator.
Have you ever been banned from any SS14 or SS13 servers? I have not, no.
What are you primarily interested in doing as an admin? Making sure that the community is having fun and feeling safe.
Getting rid of people that ruin the game for others
Hosting fun little events in-game for people to have a twist on their round.
Communicating with other admins to take care of situations quickly.
What are you least interested in doing as an admin? Having pointless arguments with people that specifically pester admins for no reason.
Detail Questions
What role do you think game admins serve on our servers?
Game Admins are there to make sure that people are following the rules and playing the game without antagonising the round for themselves or other people. They are there to keep the community safe and sound as well.
All in all, Game Admins are to ensure the smoothest and most fun gameplay possible is happening at all times!
Why do you want to become an administrator for SS14?
I know the feeling of having a round get absolutely wrecked by just one person. I know how it feels to have someone make you uncomfortable in-character and out, and I very much know that things can get very chaotic very quickly.
I want to become an administrator for Wizden because I want to make sure that everyone on the server is having the best time without having someone ruin their parade. I would also like to be an administrator to put a little spin on rounds and cause memorable events that will be talked about for quite some time.
How do you feel about the current roleplay status on the servers?
I absolutely love the roleplay on Salamander, but I think it is absolutely lacking on the Lizard server. Leviathan is pretty good for LRP as well.
Other than banning problematic players, what admin actions do you believe have the biggest positive impact?
I think just talking to the players and forming a positive connection is everything and more. Not only that, but small events that put twists on the game can also lead to experiences like no other.
Have you ever had a negative experience in the game or with a game admin? If so what, if anything, would you do to prevent other players from experiencing this?
I have not had a negative experience with an admin at Wizden, but I remember people who do not know Space Law in lizard running around in Security and making things a lot harder for the station.
If there are reports of Security being absolutely awful, I would keep a keen eye on them and ensure that what they are doing is correct and bwoink them if something was done wrong.
Have you ever had a good experience with the game or a game admin? If so, what was it?
Some of the better experiences have been people getting rolebanned for pulling some wacky stunts towards me as soon as the round is over. I remember someone was being kind of an ass as the HoS, and when it got to rulebreaking territory I immediately ahelped.
Scenario Questions
Scenario 1
It is the start of the round. There are 60 players on the server. The game mode is traitors, traitors have not been selected yet. There are three players who decided to observe the round instead of join it orbiting you. Two of them are encouraging you to “do something funny”.
There are… a LOT of things that can be deemed acceptable and unacceptable here.
Doing things like forcefully round removing people to throw into stuff like DS or Nukies is not okay, as their roles have already been chosen and locked in. You also can’t really flood the station with enemies as that’s not fun for everyone since they are being prepared.
I would come over to my fellow admins and ask about certain admemes that I could do at the beginning of the round since people are wanting something exciting to do this time around. Switch the round to something else if it takes too long, maybe to War Ops so the ghosts have a chance to become syndicate themselves.
If it is allowed and confirmed for the time, I would also call in a Code Epsilon and allow the ghosts to hop into those roles to absolutely start blasting people.
At the end of the day, there are definetly ways to go with this, but at the end of the day I want people to have fun things to do and I will more than likely set some small thing up that won’t harm anyone for the ghosts that are asking for something funny to happen.
Scenario 2
This scenario takes place on LRP. The Head of Security has decided to coup the Captain. The Head of Personnel agrees with the Head of Security and has taken up arms in case it is necessary to aid in effecting the arrest of the Captain. The Captain is hiding with the Quartermaster in the cargo shuttle to avoid the Clown who has stolen the captains saber as a non-antag. There are five people named in this scenario. Please describe what actions, if any, you would take in relation to each, and why.
Firstly, lets look at the severity of each of the 5 people named here.
If the Captain has been decided to get thrown out after a majority vote, which the two highest in the chain of command agreed on, then they have decided that whatever they have been doing has been causing issues for the station as a whole. The HoS and HoP have decided that tthe best course of action is to apprehend them, but since they are with the QM who doesn’t know about what’s going on, they think they might be teaming up with them.
Message both HoP and HoS about what the Captain has been doing for the shift and determine if it is plausible cause to kick them out of the role next turn for what they are doing. However, if the Captain has paired with the QM and is just using the shuttle to get away from the clown (who they don’t know if they’re a proper antag or not), then the QM would seem fine in this scenario and wouldn’t justify action against them.
After the round is over, depending on the severity of the Captain’s Actions, it would range to a simple roleban to an in-game ban that would need to be appealed.
As for the clown, depending on their record, self-antagging would range from a rather blunt slap on the wrist to an indefinite ban that would need to be appealed.
Scenario 3
You are ahelping a player about an issue. The player has no prior noted issues. A few days earlier, an admin had told you that this type of situation should result in a temporary ban for a first offense, and you are confident that this situation is not substantially different from the type that admin was describing. During the ahelp, another admin pings you on Discord with a link to the ongoing ahelp and tells you to just indefinitely ban them and make them appeal. Excluding trialmins and headmins, all admins are equally “ranked”. A headmin is not currently available.
First of all, I don’t know what the issue is according to the prompt. Punishments for players are potentially set and stone for those who break them and there very much might be a list for those punishments to sit at somewhere for the admins to look at if things get confusing.
Secondly, this player has had no issues prior to this one incident. And depending on the severity, this could be their first and only issue.
Ask around for everyone’s opinion on the matter, assuming there’s other admins around, and take a vote about what kind of action should be taken for this ahelp to get solved.
