MagicRat

In-game Username: MagicRat
Discord username: magicalrat
Characters you play: Trip Alliman, Lilah Khan, Kira Carr

On average, how many hours do you expect to admin per week: 6-8

Days you are available to admin on: I play almost everyday so I basically everyday, random days.

How old are you? 18

Do you have any SS14 experience outside of Wizard’s Den servers, or any SS13 experience? I have some play time hours on other servers but I do not think they are important as most of my play time comes from wizden. No ss13 experiance

Do you have prior administration experience (SS13/SS14 experience preferred, please also post a way for us to verify this)? No, just know a few simple commands from localhost.

Have you ever been banned from any SS14 or SS13 servers? I did get a vpn ban of some sorts or something, just as I first discovered ss14. I think someone else used my location with a vpn or something, not sure. I did get some kind of exception and it fixed it. No others ban apart that.

What are you primarily interested in doing as an admin? I think I would maybe enjoy ban appeals as I really like reading trough them, I love all the different stories people have that lead them to getting a ban. I think I would also enjoy in game rule enforcement, Im not the best with the rules yet, but If I ever see someone clearly breaking the rules I do make sure to report them, if I was an admin I could solve the problem myself.

What are you least interested in doing as an admin? Probably the replays, but it depends. Also not sure how much I would like doing events, only time could tell with that one.

Detail Questions

What role do you think game admins serve on our servers?

I think admins are the foundation of any successful ss14 server. I see admins as the ones who enforce the rules, I don’t like asking them to do this and that, maybe only if the admin wants to do it themselves. Also, an admin in my eyes, works what he believes is best for the community so in that case if an admin decides not in my favour I would gladly accept it as their decision. Also almost all the time when admin appears on mander it instantly brings the whole server together on OOC or during some admemes.

Why do you want to become an administrator for SS14?

I really like playing this game, that’s even an understatement. I’m absolutely addicted to the game. First day I found the game I thought it was nice, played for one round and then got the unfortunate vpn ban, stopped playing, came back some time later, resolved the ban and got so hooked that this became my favourite game. Started playing on salamander some time later, got to know most of the players there and now I want to finally move even further up. I think I want to be an admin because it would be some kind of repayment that I fell obligated to repay, just because this game is free. Also, since I’m only playing salamander, it would mean that I could take care of my favourite server, as I do see a lot of newer players messing up.

How do you feel about the current roleplay status on the servers?

Well to be honest. When I started playing on wizden I ofcourse only played on LRP severs and didnt mind anything at all, but once I got 100h (now I got 860h) I moved to mander MRP, and I cannot for the life of me move back, now I despise any kind of trashy low roleplay actions, so if I were to become an admin I would really hate going to LRP server and since I dont play on them anymore I cant comment much about them. Salamander on the other had is weird, first when I moved to it, the roleplay was nice, a lot calmer that LRP. Then few months ago, something changed mander kinda fell off on roleplay, there were a lot more LRP moments than before. Ever since the new application system on sala though, I think it once again became more RP based, kinda recovered from the fall it took. Over all I think it’s great, if it weren’t I wouldn’t be writing this most likely.

Other than banning problematic players, what admin actions do you believe have the biggest positive impact?

Well, I think just seeing that there is an admin online makes people more wary of their actions, of course it wont stop some idiot blowing up fuel tanks because chef didnt make him a burger, but yeah everytime at least when I see an admin online, I get more nervous, especially if playing security or command. Also, when people know that an admin is online, they will start ahelping more and asking some general question which is really good for the players as they can get information from trustworthy sources. Also just responding to ahelps in general are really crucial and overlooked in my eyes.

Have you ever had a negative experience in the game or with a game admin? If so what, if anything, would you do to prevent other players from experiencing this?

None that I could think of thankfully.

Have you ever had a good experience with the game or a game admin? If so, what was it?

Yes, not once I was able to become part of an admeme or event. I remember when one of the admins changed ghost color which was fun. Also once got an admin to make an invincible mouse (whole round was admeme’ed), that round probably remains as the funniest one I have ever had. Also not once I was able to just talk with an admin trough ‘dead’ chat while we both spectated the round. Good times.

Scenario Questions

Scenario 1

It is the start of the round. There are 60 players on the server. The game mode is traitors, traitors have not been selected yet. There are three players who decided to observe the round instead of join it orbiting you. Two of them are encouraging you to “do something funny”.

Well most of the time I would just say no. But sometimes if I feel like it I would take them to the per player testing world or whatever they called and maybe try out some stuff there as I seen some admins doing so.
I would never though start an admeme just like that because some said ‘do something funny’, unless there were other admins who agree and want to do it and help me if needed.

Scenario 2

This scenario takes place on LRP. The Head of Security has decided to coup the Captain. The Head of Personnel agrees with the Head of Security and has taken up arms in case it is necessary to aid in effecting the arrest of the Captain. The Captain is hiding with the Quartermaster in the cargo shuttle to avoid the Clown who has stolen the captains saber as a non-antag. There are five people named in this scenario. Please describe what actions, if any, you would take in relation to each, and why.

For HoS: I would ask them for what reason they are trying to coup the captain. First care: If the reason is not worthy of a coup, relatable punishment would follow, including bwoinking mid round if needed and asking to stop of course, with follow up bans, strikes or role bans Second case: If the reason is in a way worthy of a coup, I would ask why didnt they try to contact CC or try to solve the problem with the captain directly. If they did try to contact CC or solve the problem with the captain and both failed, I would go further, trying to see if that result is worthy of a coup. Third case: If the reason is fully worthy of a coup, like cap helping syndies or harming the station, I would try to make the coup official, by maybe making CC announcements, and also contact the captain to get their of the story in all the cases. Trying to run the whole coup smoothly

For the HoP: In first and second cases, where coup was not legal or not fully legal a similar punishment would be dealt to the HoP as the HoS, as they chose to partake in a illegal coup. In the third case, where the coup is in a way legal, I would still try to get as much context as I could of the story, trying to get information about whatever HoS and cap did that round.

For captain: I would instantly ahelp them, trying to get as much information as possible what happened and what could be the reason for the coup. If cap was actually doing something wrong and the coup is rightful, I would let the round play out as said before, trying to make the coup as official as possible, and then after the round, depending on what the cap did some kind of punishment would follow.

In all cases I would try to figure out if anything done by the players was actually rulebreaking or more of just shittery.

For QM: I do not see what could they be doing wrong if they are not participating in the coup, I would only ask them some questions if they know why cap is getting overthrown.

For the clown: If clown decides to stop their trolling, basing on how severe were their actions (if they actually used the sword on someone or just ran around with it as clowns do) I would give an apropriate punishment, (warning or a strike-ban if needed) and also an ahelp follow up on why they decided to do what they did. If clown doesnt stop not only an instant ahelp but also a sever punishment will be waiting for them.

Scenario 3

You are ahelping a player about an issue. The player has no prior noted issues. A few days earlier, an admin had told you that this type of situation should result in a temporary ban for a first offense, and you are confident that this situation is not substantially different from the type that admin was describing. During the ahelp, another admin pings you on Discord with a link to the ongoing ahelp and tells you to just indefinitely ban them and make them appeal. Excluding trialmins and headmins, all admins are equally “ranked”. A headmin is not currently available.

Well seeing as both admins at least agree that in this case the player should be banned I would try to take my and the other two admins considerations into mind. If by my thought, the ban is not worthy of indefinite I would follow the first admins command and temp ban them. If in my thought the reason is worthy of a longer ban and/or lacking time and information I would indefinite ban them and ask them to explain everything in the appeal.
