In-game Username: MerrytheManokit
Discord username: MerrytheManokit
Characters you play: Is-The-Goober
On average, how many hours do you expect to admin per week: 5-10
Days you are available to admin on: Any
How old are you? 20
Do you have any SS14 experience outside of Wizard’s Den servers, or any SS13 experience? I have experience in 2 other servers outside of wizden, those being Frontier and Cosmatic Drift.
Do you have prior administration experience (SS13/SS14 experience preferred, please also post a way for us to verify this)? I do not.
Have you ever been banned from any SS14 or SS13 servers? I have not gotten a ban from a server directly, but I have gotten command rolebanned on wizden for 3 days after suiciding as RD. This ban was due to my own ignorance, as I hadn’t read the rules thinking I was going to drop the game after a week.
Admins have the ability to perform various tasks which are not available to the average player. An incomplete list of these tasks is: in-game rule enforcement, in-game events, ban appeals, and out-of-game rule enforcement through things like replay/log reviews in response to player reports. With these, and any other tasks you’re aware of in mind, answer the following two questions.
What are you primarily interested in doing as an admin? The main thing I want to do as an admin is help foster the feeling of community that hooked me to the game. No other game has such a welcoming and kind community and I want to help and keep it free of people who are only around to cause problems.
What are you least interested in doing as an admin? I feel like resolving an argument between two people who are in disagreement is probably one of things I least look forward to doing. Im also fine with but dont exactly look forward too doing appeals and such on the forums.
Answer the following questions in detail, so we can get a better idea of how you’d approach adminning.
What role do you think game admins serve on our servers?
They serve the role of maintaining a positive and inviting atmosphere that people want to spend time in. They also serve the purpose of enforcing the rules that keep the atmosphere the way it is. They’re the backbone that keeps the servers orderly and fun to play.
Why do you want to become an administrator for SS14?
I want to admin as this game is special to me. It’s very quickly became one of my favorite games of all time and I want to help other’s have that experience too. I also just want to maintain the community and help weed out people who want to cause issues.
How do you feel about the current roleplay status on the servers?
I can only really speak on Leviathan, but i feel it’s doing fine on there. Most people make time to weave roleplay into their gameplay one way or another. However, some people seem to be there just to play the game, and ignore most roleplay. These people are usually few and far between though so im overall pretty happy with the status of roleplay on leviathan.
Other than banning problematic players, what admin actions do you believe have the biggest positive impact?
I believe one of the other admin actions that have a really positive impact is just helping people out. With all the depth of the game. it’s understandable to be lost or confused, and I feel it’s very nice to just have someone there to help you if you need it, no matter how big or small the question.
Have you ever had a negative experience in the game or with a game admin? If so what, if anything, would you do to prevent other players from experiencing this?
I have not had a bad experience I can recall, all the admins are generally very understanding.
Have you ever had a good experience with the game or a game admin? If so, what was it?
One really good experience I’ve had was an event run by Jarmer. Since the event was by nature chaotic, many people died, but he always made sure ghosts weren’t left out and was constantly adding different ghost roles so everyone could enjoy the event.
The following are scenarios, respond with how you would handle each as an administrator. Respond with the assumption that you are an administrator with full access to the admin tools, and that you have all the knowledge needed to use these tools. Scenarios intentionally leave out information so that you can describe how different details would affect your response. Respond in detail, explain the reasons behind decisions you make and describe any assumptions you are making. When you need to make an assumption, it is preferred for you to describe how different assumptions would affect your actions.
It is the start of the round. There are 60 players on the server. The game mode is traitors, traitors have not been selected yet. There are three players who decided to observe the round instead of join it orbiting you. Two of them are encouraging you to “do something funny”.
The most logical thing to do would most likely be just ignoring the prompting, or simply telling them no. If you actually let them tell you what to do, the round would be ruined before it even started, which is no fun for anyone. If the pestering continues after this I would just ignore them and not even humor the idea.
This scenario takes place on LRP. The Head of Security has decided to coup the Captain. The Head of Personnel agrees with the Head of Security and has taken up arms in case it is necessary to aid in effecting the arrest of the Captain. The Captain is hiding with the Quartermaster in the cargo shuttle to avoid the Clown who has stolen the captains saber as a non-antag. There are five people named in this scenario. Please describe what actions, if any, you would take in relation to each, and why.
-
HOS: The first person id ask about the coup is the HOS. Id ask where the idea of a coup came from and why it was initiated. Did the captain grossly abuse their power or were they doing nothing out of the ordinary. If the captain abused his power id then ask if the coup had been agreed upon by the other members of command, and if he had been simply asked to step down before any action was taken. If also ask about the plans of the coup. Did they want to kill captain or simply arrest them. If the coup was done for a viable reason and in a coordinated and peaceful manner, with the agreement of the rest of command, I believe that at worst a warning would be needed. If it was done for a reason but without the agreement of command or in a violent manner, i believe a roleban would best fit. If the coup was done on a whim without reason a roleban or game ban would be needed depending on the details.
-
Captain: Id take a similar course of action with the captain. Did he abuse his power or harm the station, or was he doing his normal routine. Id also ask if the rest of command had confronted him and asked him to step down, or if he was attacked by sec without warning to get a gauge on the other players actions. Another important question would be if he escalated after the coup started or simply ran away. If the captain abused his power in some way id look further into it and see what the proper response would be. The reponse would most likely be a roleban but could advance to a proper ban depending on the severity of his actions. If the captain did nothing to prompt the coup and was simply attacked, no action would be taken against him unless he escalated the situation somehow afterwards. If this occurred a warning or roleban could be necessary depending on how he escalated.
-
HOP: If the captain abused his power somehow and proper action had been taken to try and resolve the situation peacefully but failed, i believe the HOP has the right to take up arms and at worst would get a warning/roleban if he misused them. However if the captain had done nothing wrong and the HOP decided to arm up for no reason a roleban would most likely fit. I dont feel a server ban would be necessary since in the scenario he had not yet taken action with the arms.
-
QM: The QM was simply a bystander in this and was most likely just doing what they were told by the captain. No action is needed.
-
Clown: If the captain and QM were hiding from the clown it can most likely be assumed that he attacked them. However, i would still ask how and why he has the saber, and if he had attacked anyone with it. If the clown had just stolen the saber but done nothing with it, a warning about stealing high value items as a non antag would be enough. If the clown had killed people with the saber and attempted to kill the captain, a ban for self antag would be the besy course of action
You are ahelping a player about an issue. The player has no prior noted issues. A few days earlier, an admin had told you that this type of situation should result in a temporary ban for a first offense, and you are confident that this situation is not substantially different from the type that admin was describing. During the ahelp, another admin pings you on Discord with a link to the ongoing ahelp and tells you to just indefinitely ban them and make them appeal. Excluding trialmins and headmins, all admins are equally “ranked”. A headmin is not currently available.
Since all admins are the same rank i would ask why they believe an appeal ban is necessary and go from there. Another smart thing to do would be consulting with another admin about the case to see if they agreed with the temp ban or the appeal ban. If i was unable to get outsider opinion, i would follow the recommended response and give the player a temporary ban, and then ask a headmin about the situation whenever one was available.
